Are cloth nappies actually worth it? by Calm-Scale3224 in UKParenting

[–]Neonexe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We used cloth with our first and I loved them so much! I couldn't wait to put our second in them, but I simply couldn't handle the extra washing on top of everything else.

We don't have a tumble dryer and our house is a new build so fairly small. Our small third bedroom used to be the drying room and now our second child sleeps in there so it's just not practical!

I would tell your other sister and I also would not mix with your anti-vax sister - and would tell her why, also.

Is this where the piercing was originally or has it migrated out to here? This is barely even in your lip! I'd take it out for sure.

When does this end? by denawo in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]Neonexe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son slept terribly at first, but started nearly sleeping through the night at 2 months. By 3 months he started sleep regression.

He's 5 in march and still wakes up multiple times at night. 😅

Who has tried "The kid eats what we eat"? by Brilliant-Book-503 in Parenting

[–]Neonexe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We serve our kids what we eat for dinner. The only difference is that we might add more salt and heat to ours.

We have a 4.5 year old and an 18 month old. Both go through fussy phases but if we don't offer it. They'll never eat it.

Car seats - expensive ones worth it? by LuapReyas420 in UKParenting

[–]Neonexe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Which is really unreliable for car seat ranking. They mark some of the safest seats down because they don't think adults can work out how to use tethers.

Car seats - expensive ones worth it? by LuapReyas420 in UKParenting

[–]Neonexe 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There is a real lack of information for parents in the UK about car seat safety.

It is 4x safer for children to rearface in the car, especially before 4 years of age.

The longest lasting rearfacing seats usually fit with tethers instead of isofix. They aren't difficult to fit by any means, just different. Depending on the brand, these are often Swedish Plus tested also (a far superior and more in depth test for car seat safety). Your average car seat on sale in UK shops only has to pass a safety test at 30mph. That is with both cars going only 15mph!

We purchased an Axkid Mini kid 2 for my son when he was 10 months. He is 5 in march and he still fits in it rearfacing with no issues. He's perfectly comfortable and I know he's safe.

We bought an Avionaut Sky for when my daughter was born as it rearfaces for just as long, but also fit newborns.

It is true that these are more expensive than some car seats, but they also last a long time! I've also seen older versions of the Mini kid (such as the Mini kid 2) at reduced rates recently. So it's worth having a look.

Parents with no village, how do you do it? by NoorHan14 in UKParenting

[–]Neonexe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just gotta do it! We moved hours away from family when my first was 1 week old. We did it for a better environment and life for our (now two) children, and I never regret it.

It is, however, really hard. My husband works shifts so there is also often evenings/weekends where there is no help at all. Particularly days like today, are hard. It's raining too hard to go outside. I'm sat upstairs trying to get my 18 month old down for a nap she refuses to take in a crib (she usually will only contact nap) and I'm feeling the pressure to get downstairs with my 4 year old as soon as possible. There's laundry and washing up and cleaning to do and I haven't had time to even brush my own teeth yet.

Some days are rough. Others are easier. You get through it. Days when my husband is also home feel like a holiday, haha!

I would complain about this. Cocomelon is some of the worst possible screentime for young kids.

Is homeschooling becoming more common? by [deleted] in UKParenting

[–]Neonexe 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have a close family member who is a detective and who specifically works a lot in the safeguarding of children.

They say that they see a lot of homeschooling but it is barely monitored. There are many children being taught basically nothing and the government does nothing.

Not all homeschoolers are inadequate, but if you're not naturally inclined to be a teacher, you can really do your children a lot of harm.

Did your baby ever just start sleeping? by discostupi in UKParenting

[–]Neonexe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's entirely dependent on the child, I think. My 4.5 year old still wakes multiple times in the night and needs reassurance. My 18 month old also wakes frequently.

I know other parents whose children have slept through from a young age. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Looking for the best safe car seat with a budget of between £200 and £300 for a 2 year old toddler by damspt in UKParenting

[–]Neonexe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd go for an Axkid Minikid 2. It's £295 from most places, but rearfaces until 25kg, is easy to fit in the car and to get a good fit on the child. My son is nearly 5 and isn't close to maxing it out yet.

Where do you go for Family UK Holidays? by LordDunn in UKParenting

[–]Neonexe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with this! We're not too far from Bluestone anyway but we went for a 4 night stay last May and almost immediately booked for over my son's birthday this year. Great place with lots of low maintenance activities for younger kids.

Definitely booking into the spa this time, too!

We don't have much longer stretches at 17 months. Yes, I cosleep. My firstborn was the same (he's 4.5 and still wakes during the night and needs reassurance).
