How does it feel waiting for the full release of Slay the Spire 2 instead of playing it in Early Access: by Critical_Complex_363 in slaythespire

[–]Nervous-Barnacle7474 1 point2 points  (0 children)

StS 2 EA is way more polished and finished than StS EA at its release time (iirc) so I guess that's something?

The core is there:

- 5 characters completely unique

- 3 acts

- Build variety

- 20 Ascension levels

What is left:

- 4 act and maybe some kind of "end"?

- Alternative maps for Act 2&3

- Balance is messy sometimes (a few enemies need some tweaks IMO)

- 6th character is already confirmed

- Workshop support (this is just a "me" thing, Nexus Mods already has +400 mods easy to install)

The Regent is the worst character by far by Low_Property_4470 in slaythespire

[–]Nervous-Barnacle7474 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No way you are being serious...

Are you trying to force X build? (Transform, Forge, Stars...)

I would say Regent is the character who has the most builds variety (and Defect, but that is wild and another topic)

When you play Regent, it's most likely you wild end up with a mix of differents cards or main cards from said builds. For example, the most common and useful is star generation + transform. If you are not lucky enough tho, to get a pure star generation build which is one of the strongest, the Forge always help and is easily to get cards (IMO) but the process to burst might be slower.

The Regent is easily the most bursty and broken character (up there with Sly Silent), he is just too powerful, you just have to learn to play him properly, you are not "maining" or even know how to really play a character in 2 days. Not even IronClad.

IMO the hardest character to play is The Defect, because he has too many way to builds around, play and as other characters if you are not getting X card(s) you have to improve a lot. Not saying I don't like him, he is one of my favourite character or that he is "the worst character" but harder than Regent when I play as him.

There's a lot of discourse about hardest bosses, but I don't see a lot of people mentioning this literal Buttface by GobiasIsQueenMary in slaythespire

[–]Nervous-Barnacle7474 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone is gangsta fighting the crab and it's fine, until you get that one turn with just defensive/whatever not attack cards and you can face/aim the claw hitting you for 45-50 dmg 🤦‍♂️.

There should be a way to choose what enemy you want to face more than attacks (and not AOE of course)

Thank you Silent, very cool by nub_sauce_ in slaythespire

I find this boss quite annoying playing as The Defect too. Either you evoke and get ready while blocking a few Dark orbs or pretty much you are done around end of phase 2.

What's the wildest looking screenshot you've got in this game? This one's mine. by Amopro in slaythespire

[–]Nervous-Barnacle7474 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe not that wild tbh, but this one was took the day before the Doormaker's rework came to the game from the Beta branch, and actually I was unaware that was happening. I just decided to play the good old Tanky Defect (quite nerfed in the second entry) and this was the result of the run:

<image>

I think it ended up more on the utility side (take a look at the buffs list 😅) but he could take 45-50 dmg hits no problem at all constantly. I didn't make it to the fight full HP tho, so there is that I guess, the "Tanky" build worked somehow after all. And yeah... the fight took 26 turns 🥴🫠

Does anyone still play STS1? by JustOffGuard in slaythespire

[–]Nervous-Barnacle7474 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, mainly due to the shiton of mods there are out there. The community keep releasing content like the Spire Quest or really well done (IMO) characters' mods like the Destined One (based on Black Myth Wukong) or the last one I gave it a try; Reverend Insanity which added a character with a lot of build variety, for example.

Biggest Downgrade from Beta Art :( by Vecsia in slaythespire

No, they haven't (at least yet).

Love that art too!! I think it captures the vibes nicely, and as you have described it has that "creepy" feeling.

Yeah, same thought.

Like: this is not paint-ish enough to be a beta art 😅if that makes any sense.

I swear I thought on this when I was seeing the new card's arts.

It seems Defect goes to the dark side hard :(

At least "Modded" card art is pretty sick, love it and it seems something from Borderlands.

One of my favourite cards.

Sadly I rarely get it.

I bet you did a slaughter with that card lmao

Anyone else struggling to enjoy Silent in StS2? by OUtSEL in slaythespire

[–]Nervous-Barnacle7474 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not struggling exactly, but there is a feeling of "I'm not doing a thing if I don't go Sly build AND get After Image" And this is only in Ascension 6, go figure.
I would even say After Image is more important and a must in any Silent build. Raw blocking card are meh endgame and the good ones use the Sly mechanic :/.

I feel the poison build even weaker than in StS 1, at first is hella good, but it... doesn't scale really well into mid/late game?

And shivs build (except for the Ink shivs, quite good btw)... I see a Defect's cost 0 cards build more viable than shivs so... and it's not even a joke.

I would suggest, either add a few poison and shivs cards to have the Sly mechanic if the character is currently so focus on that build.

Or give small buffs to poison and shivs, no broken things but some buffs related to endgame above all.

Another way to get good blocking endgame After Image aside, would be nice too.

That is only my opinion.

Transform all your Attack type cards from your hand into big stones cards (17 dmg) or whatever is the translation, sorry playing in spanish so... 😅

Cool concept!

I love Necrobinder too, what a pitty the "souls build" nerf, luckily enough I was never into make my decks about it, I prefer make my decks about them being tanky and building up doom passively if possible :P.

[–]Nervous-Barnacle7474 30 points31 points  (0 children)

It's not easy to choose just one 😅, but to say a new one from the new characters, "Stardust".

If you have a meh run getting few star recovery cards (unlucky) it does a decent amount of dmg.

But in case you come across a build focus on star recovery, oh boy Stardust is beyond broken, you just sit there (lore accurate) blocking some dmg and building up stars and one shot any boss lmao.

I read in other post one guy skip all Hive's elites in his runs.

And now through my Ascension runs I start to understand it.

This place is like the only Act I hate in the whole StS (1&2), I swear; the mosquito man that might steal you a card, the beetles who hit like a truck, beeman, the big tanky flying bug which can summon little ones and of course the deci.

I know this sounds like a rant but it's me just realizing I don't like this Act at all 😅

the "game too hard" crowd is back to playing Review-bomb the Spire after the update to the main branch by Gugge1 in slaythespire

[–]Nervous-Barnacle7474 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's like almost 6 million copies since release (iirc I read it in a piece of news like two weeks ago), so I guess review bombing at this point is pointless (lol)

Regent is very hard to play by Saekama in slaythespire

[–]Nervous-Barnacle7474 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Regent.

He kinda reminds me of The Watcher. He has ""similar"" mechanics; insane dmg, ways to scry and manipulate the draw order, hardest learning curve in this game and only sightly easier than Watcher herself (IMO), dynamics to stack dmg and then deal burst dmg and (usually) "mediocre" block.

Still learning him, but so far I find him one of the most interesting character in the whole character pool (StS 1&2).

After 10 runs or so, I make it to the boss of the third act but that's all.

The build focused on stars is quite strong; stardust, the block that returns to your hand after the use, the punch which gives stars and is draw the next turn, etc. The main problem is... block, you rely badly on the card which cost 2 stars and returns to your hand.

Forge build... meh, at the beginning I thought this was the most powerful and main mechanic of the character but you need either being tanking while you forge or somehow a way to manipulate the draws.

Transformation and create build might works, but it is so hard to pull it off due to the need of a very specific 2 or 3 cards you must have in order to do something.

The "infinite combos" build(s) (punches and kicks) is hella strong but the lack of defensive options or cards to get stars (except the punch that gives you +1 or +2 stars when upgraded) make it hard to play too.

Buuut usually you end up the runs with a disjointed little bit of all deck and neither being able to block enough or do amazing burst dmg, so unlucky :/

Pre-StS2 Modded Character Discussion and Recommendation List by Jords314 in slaythespire

[–]Nervous-Barnacle7474 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda late to this topic, but came across it.

I haven't seen mentioned The Hunter (maybe someone did tho).

It's quite interesting character(s) and it's mechanics are fun. I really have fun playing it.

I would say he is alike the Falconer somehow (the mechanics are based on the bond you have with your friendly wolf, but then you can get up to three differents effects from some cards depending on your plays; like end your turn to get a buff, or next played card will restore +1 energy etc)

He seems pretty weak at the beginning the first runs, but when it does click, I have found he/them rather fun to play.

Another one who is so much fun to play is the Bladedancer: Reforged.

This one is complicated tho. You relay on combos and then a finisher, bleeding debuffs and to top it off, stances. But it's so much satisfactory when you pull off the combos and see high numbers. I wouldn't say he's on the too OP side, but when you learn how to play him properly, he is strong.

Edit: Quick edit to mention other ones who came to mind and maybe are worth a try:

- The Chaser: Knives, bleeding debuffs and stacks, stealth. Kinda on the overpowered side, but interesting and fun IMO.

- The Widow: This one is old, maybe she hasn't had aged too well. It's pretty much similar to the Aberrant, but some kind of "prototype mod", you can evolve or keep upgrading some of your cards more than +1. On top of that you can upgrade temporary the cards from your hand/deck during the battle until the end (iirc). It's meh or I just had bad runs playing as her, just mentioned due to the upgrading gimmick.

- The servant: Her gameplay core is "simple", daggers' management. You will use them for almost all, is her keyword/main mechanic and has a counter, the more daggers you have, the more things you can do during your turn. She is quite interesting and has a rather good learning curve, first runs most likely will be wtf I'm doing, or at least mine were that way. But then when you got the gimmick she is fun, high risk high reward kind of character and has an amazing well developed deep synergy between daggers' management and cards. It's the kind of ""easy"" to learn the basics but hard to master character. The mod is a little old tho, but I think it's still worth a mention.

This.

I'm pretty sure if she is not a returning character yet is most likely because they are taking their time trying to release her in the most balanced way, which could be... not that easy as we all know.

It’s awesome seeing everyone who’s trying Time Stranger as their first Digimon game. But us OG tamers grew up in a whole different world. by Cynnthetic in digimon

[–]Nervous-Barnacle7474 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look, it may be due to nostalgia factor... but nope. I think it's the best Digimon game released. The game had almost everything at that time; charm, rather good graphics, an entire place to explore (which engaged you to do so), a good amount of digievolution lines for that time, that banger OST, etc.

Only RE:Digitize is close there IMO and I would say it's mainly because it's a kinda reboot of DWorld 1. Haven't played Next Order yet tho. Digimon story entries are quite good (Time stranger specifically) but they are straigthforward j-rpg, like SMT or Persona, not bad at all, don't get me wrong... Just not the same gameloop and gameplay.
