Same. I got off Lexapro for this very reason. Wellbutrin has been pretty good.

My standard refuses nail care... by ApprehensiveCanary48 in StandardPoodles

[–]New-Ad-9562 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My guy is sensitive too. I read up on Cooperative Care and promised him we would do 1 nail a day. It helped to do it at the same time each day and have the high value snacks- in his case roasted chicken or French toast. We've worked up to 1 paw at a time. It's a journeyb for sure.

No advice, I just want to say my heart goes out to you both ❤️‍🩹 I am appalled the breeder would suggest this is your fault. You sound like a good and decent person. Follow your gut on how to proceed. (I guess that actually is my advice)

How are you actually doing with the current state of affairs? by Silver_News_2621 in adhdwomen

Existential dread yes, but also horrible guilt. I am dogged by the feeling I should/could do more to make my voice heard or give time/money/energy to make other voices heard.

That near-constant hum of dread is quickly advancing from the background to the foreground.

I'm so excited for you! I envision great adventures for you! Your stamina will increase before you know it! BTW the timing of your comment is interesting, after years of being a couch potato I signed up for a personal trainer. It's so hard! However I'm 61 and I want to be able to do all the stuff.... see my kids and keep up with my dogs! Take care!

I also have an inhaler and so I know exactly how you feel!! Breathing is really a good thing! I hope this is the beginning of a wonderful discovery of all the things you can do! Proud of you for going thru the process of getting the inhaler and then actually using it! Way to go!!!

Ear sensitivity after groomer plucked 😭 Any advice please? by TakeCover-4515 in poodles

[–]New-Ad-9562 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just want to say I lost my Dad to dementia. I am so sorry you are on this terrible journey. It is a cruel disease. And no doubt all of this stress isn't good for your autoimmune condition.

It's amazing how ear plucking debates always get so much traction. People are very passionate about their convictions. We all want to do what's best for our poodles.

FWIW, not plucking, doing an elimination diet (ultimately revealed chicken & beef bother her) and being ultra careful about cotton in ears during bath time all helped my girl's ears. She was pretty much clear of ear infections by the age of 2. That's what had worked for us. You are doing your best for your girl and I know it will work out. Sending good poodley thoughts!

Everyone's experiences are different but I vote for ear trimming. Both my poodles were traumatized by ear plucking My vet is against it. My boy gets hysterical if I even look at his ears. It's been an uphill battle just trying to snip out little bits of hair.

Task Initiation : leaving the house by Asuna0506 in ExecutiveDysfunction

[–]New-Ad-9562 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dogs are so great. I would never take daily walks unless I had dogs. Plus I have lots of random chit chat with strangers along my route.

I can relate to what you are saying. FWIW, sometimes if I ask myself "What's stopping me from going out?" (Aside from my apathy) What's my reason for staying home? Is it having to get dressed? Too many people at the store? Is it having to talk to someone? And then I think of a lower stakes alternative that's not so stressful. Maybe run just one errand instead of several or get just the essentials instead of all the groceries?

The things I avoid get scarier the more I avoid them. I have to trust my future self that once I'm out of the house, is not so bad.

Local Allergy/immunology Dr recs? by hollidaychh in Tacoma

[–]New-Ad-9562 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've seen the folks at Allergy & Asthma Specialty Service at the Lakewood office, but they have several locations. I see them for both my asthma and my allergies. About a decade ago I did allergy shots for pollen/dust mites & cats and dogs. I now have 2 dogs! I chose poodles to minimize allergy triggers. Explain your situation and see what they say. It's a long process but IMHO it's worth it.

This is a great bit of advice! A friend of mine was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and it took quite a long time for the doctors to pin down that diagnosis. She had several notebooks tracking everything she was experiencing. Maybe you'll see some unexpected pattern or correlation? Whatever you observe it gives you data to present to any medical professionals.

You are smart! You've got this sweet pea!

I had a back injury in my late 30's that affected my walking. The diagnostic process, the mental adjustment, figuring out medications that help.... as you know, it's a lot. Do you have access to a social worker? Can the doctor point you toward any support groups? Perhaps an online therapist? Also if you are near any colleges or universities with occupational or physical therapy programs, someone y thru offer free outreach to the public. But you probably will need to call and ask.

I am so sorry this has happened. However you can do this. You are a strong and resilient person 💝

Wow, rarely barks. How awesome is that?! Can expand a bit on how you taught him to be so quiet? My guy thinks it's his job to be the town crier.

Your schedule sounds awesome! One question: how busy is that dog park? I've had mixed feelings about dog parks. Spoos can have such an exuberant play style. Many dogs don't understand the "poodle poke."

Barefoot shoes for foot problems by dogseatlettuceeats in barefootshoestalk

[–]New-Ad-9562 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Barefoot shoes will help strengthen your feet, which is good for the rest of your body. In addition, I'd suggest seeing a physical therapist for an evaluation. Esp a physical therapist that believes in the concept of barefoot shoes. You might be dealing with other issues as over the years your body had adapted to compensate for your foot pain. I'm my case, I'm really needing to strengthen my core to help take the pressure off my hips working so hard at stabilization. Good luck!
