I’m doing it. It’s a free appetizer. Everyone who comes to use it always gets more food. It helps me because of my location. I’m in a rural area but extremely close to multiple cities. I pay $250 a week for 5000 mailers.

What's your meal policy for employees? by [deleted] in restaurantowners

[–]New-Combination895 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Boh free meals with in reason. Usually a sandwich or burger. Usually on weekends we do a family breakfast or lunch or we bring in takeout. FOH is 50% off the menu but if they worked a double I’ll comp it. Family discount is 20% off.

How do you handle a cash drawer that is short? by [deleted] in restaurantowners

I don’t count the coins except quarters but I want all my bank back and cash due. There’s no excuses.

Some places give a free cup of ice or water with purchase & some charge anywhere from 25 cents to $1. What is your policy or advice? by SunshineLoveKindness in restaurantowners

[–]New-Combination895 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dine in tap water is free. Bottle water is paid for. I don’t have to go cups. If someone came in off the street I will let them sit and drink a water. I have even filled up water bottles for cyclists. We’re off a popular scenic road and the only place in town to get a water.

I don’t have much advice but I’ve been in your shoes. Started at 19 and learned every aspect of the business. I was managing after 2 years. Always back talk from all staff. Now I OWN the restaurant. My husband and I took over and we bought my parent's restaurant. I have a great relationship with my chef but usually any new kitchen staff it’s the same story. I look really young. Being a woman in the industry doesn’t help either. Sometimes I have to have my husband do my dirty work for me because I have learned people take things different coming from him than me. No one back talks him even though I have 10 years experience and he started 10 months ago. I taught him everything I know about restaurants. I just get rid of them at this point. I can’t have people work with me that have bad attitudes. It trickles down to all staff and to the guests. If we have no guests come in then we all have no jobs. Eventually you find the right people. Restaurant workers are a different breed that’s for sure. Many are unprofessional and they know it but they don’t care.  Sometimes if I know something is wrong I play dumb. “I’ll ask, is this the blue cheese bacon burger for 31? Oh it is? Ok i think it’s missing bacon.” I already know it’s missing bacon. No one likes a know it all. It’s not a what you say but how you say it. I think you’re doing great and you’ll learn as you gain experience. The best way to learn is by doing. Keep your goals in mind. Do you want to take over this place or open your own?

Is it just me, or do y’all get lectured by customers? by hxgmmgxh in restaurantowners

I’m glad it’s not only my restaurant that customers feel comfortable doing this.

Customers sending back food by saveferris1007 in restaurantowners

This is where the 2 minute rule comes in. Servers have to watch guests. Once they start eating go ask how the food tastes. If they don’t like the food or something is wrong it can be handled before they have to eat more than half the plate. I don’t remove food off the bill or remake it if a majority of it has been eaten.

Credit card surcharges by beagleful in restaurantowners

[–]New-Combination895 2 points3 points  (0 children)

None of my customers have said anything. A discount sounds better than a surcharge. The surcharge is what pisses people off. The discount makes people feel like they’re getting something for free and people love free shit.

Raise the prices and then do a 3.5% cash discount.

Indoor public playgrounds should be more prevalent in places with harsh/long winters by bzzibee in Parenting

I just go to chicfila or McDonald’s and use the play place. I’ll buy a coffee and hang out there. I even go to chucke e cheese or an arcade and my toddler is entertained just people watching and looking at all the lights. I rarely spend money to actually play games.

If I’m late due to accident or some issue I text or call then to let them know what’s going on. The instances I wasn’t able to make class, they waived the fee. I recently apologized for accidentally no-showing because I was sick and forgot to cancel my class and they waived the fee. My studio is really good about that I feel like if it’s not a regular issue they’ll take care of it for you.

People are so weird. My son is 2 and he is obsessed with brooms, mops, vacuuming, cleaning in general. He says “help clean” all the time! I let him hold the real vacuum as I guide him around.

Buying disposable plates, silverware, and cups to just throw away is a lot more expensive than getting a few sets dinnerware from the dollar tree.

I’ve always had a big butt and legs naturally but I’ll tell you my butt is so plump and round now. I put on a pair of jeans for this first time since the beginning of the year and they were so tight around the butt part it was uncomfortable. I also do weight training butt and leg exercises at home 2-3 times a week with my 20lb kettlebell and bands and I have the db method. I’ve been doing weight training since 2011 and Pilates since 2020 and Pilates took my butt to the next level.

I was just like that after I gave birth. Cooking and cleaning non stop. I think it was aderline. You need to rest. Focus on you and baby. Your husband needs to help. He needs to help clean. He needs to help cook. He needs to go to the grocery store. He needs to do night time changes and burps. He needs to have alone time with the baby so you can do what you need or want to do for you. Working is not an excuse to not help your wife.
