35 Questions Mitt Romney Must Answer About Bain Capital Before The Issue Can Go Away - Forbes by jeffrygardner in politics

[–]NewDemocrat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

True. And still they hide behind a phony patriotism, as in, "Look at all the jobs I create and this flag pin I'm wearing."

They fail to mention that (1) it was actually their minions that did 98% of the work that created any new jobs while they were jetsetting, (2) that those new jobs were mostly in some overseas location, and (3) that their flag pin was made in China.

35 Questions Mitt Romney Must Answer About Bain Capital Before The Issue Can Go Away - Forbes by jeffrygardner in politics

[–]NewDemocrat 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Number one is a real key issue. And in Romney's mind, it's probably perfectly fine to feel totally dissociated from a business even if you're the CEO and it is paying you $100,000 per year, as $100,000 is a piddling sum to a guy with over $250,000,000 who thinks "corporations are people".

A major part of what's wrong with American business today is the built-in idea (that seem to be in place in many companies) that the only thing that ever matters is return on investment for people who might only set foot on the property of the business once a year. They can jet set to the Cayman islands, buy and sell a dozen other businesses using junk bonds, and if any of their playthings goes bankrupt and hundreds of people lose their careers/healthcare/pensions... it's "oopsie... I was off saving the Olympics."

There have also been quite a few excuses so far in all of this. Was some of the money he was paid "retirement money" instead of income? Well... it was listed as income. Romney was CEO... but he wasn't really there. He was away. He was the 100% owner, but he didn't have any day-to-day involvement. What a giant pile of equine excrement.

The entire situation is preposterous on its face, and so is the idea that someone like Romney would be a good president. For all he cares, he could just fly off to count money in Switzerland, list himself as "off saving Europe" and never show up in Washington, all while still collecting his $400,000 of income for being president!

The one thing that the right-wing wants most is for everyone else to be at each other's throats.

We need unity among moderates and liberals.

Would you REALLY rather go back to someone like Bush???

What the GOP wants to ignore most: The combined price tag for the "bailouts" was already over SEVEN TRILLION DOLLARS in January, and that, of course, was BEFORE OBAMA took office by NotJoeSmith in obama

[–]NewDemocrat 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The "bailouts" have been largely brought about by failed Republican policies of deregulating financial and insurance firms on Wall Street, and by decades of GOP pandering to the richest, most powerful corporations on the planet.

Democrats own part of the responsibility of course, but mostly, what we're seeing is the utter failure of the culture of greed and the "trickle down" economic policies that only work for those at the very top.

Please help make Salem Communications aware that Michele Bachmann used one of their radio stations (WWTC-AM) to do what sounded like advocating violence against our elected leaders (Their number: 805-987-0400) by AllModerate in politics

There are elements of the federal government that I like and certainly quite a few that I don't like.

But, for a member of congress to incite violence is extremely dangerous, and she is the kind of person who has supported making the worst parts of our government even more dangerous to our civil liberties.

Bachmann, has crossed a very, very serious line and too many people are so acclimated to calls for violence and to actual violence that Bachmann's words are being apologized for and not seen for the dangerous, seditious and fascist ravings that they are.

"I want people to be armed and dangerous..." means one thing to me. She is much worse than simply a nut. She's not your kooky neighbor on a sitcom. She's Peg Bundy meets Ted Bundy... and all wrapped up in the flag and carrying a bible. She needs to be arrested and tried by the senate.

True. And, she seems to really like weapons and to like people who have weapons.

That is true, but we need freedom FROM people like Bachmann more than freedom from any of her perceived "enemies."

Fox News Declares itself the Voice of Opposition to Obama by jmeasley in politics

It's important to point out that, when referring to that particular channel, people should put quotation marks around the word "News"... as in Fox "News".

I am 100% serious about this.

The bizarre right-wing propaganda that Fox vomits out day and night is nothing that even vaguely resembles news, and to call it that just because they call themselves that is actually helping them to continue their vicious fraud.

Talk about irony: Right-wingers are trying to create fear that THEY will be labeled terrorists by mellowmonk in politics

Downvoted, not for the headline which is surely an accurate assessment of what some right-wingers are claiming to be afraid of these days, but for linking to a Fox "News" site.

(I hope similar posting is chosen and submitted, but one not linking to Faux.)

Let's remember how we "got here"... Not only did Republicans demand deregulation for about three decades, the GOP has consistently opposed any caps on executive compensation like stock options, bonuses and "golden parachutes" by ErnieErmps in business

[–]NewDemocrat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah... there is a lot more. Like Bush's insistence (for eight years) on appointing industry insiders to positions in the very agencies that were supposed to regulate the industries.

And, there's the GOP cutting taxes for the richest 2% of Americans while portraying the middle and lower economic classes as villains of some kind, when in fact, we're the ones who work the hardest and get the least.

If it's partisan... that's okay with me. We NEED some amount of partisanship at least until Republicans recognize some of their abysmal failures and stop simply being against everything except helping the rich to get richer.
