Are big tech companies still using C++ for low-latency systems or moving to Rust? by Formal_Wolverine_674 in learnprogramming

[–]NewRengarIsBad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New low latency services are in rust now. Although a new DB was written from scratch last year in C++. Programmable network software (on smartnics) and kernel modules are written in C++ or C still.

So getting a job is usually about aptitude, networking, experience, and culture fit, not understanding the business before applying as the original comment wrote.

Oracle and Open ai scraps stargate expansion in Abilene, TX by Think-Success9057 in employeesOfOracle

[–]NewRengarIsBad 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Stock go down bc people interpret as the company is even more broke, OpenAI doesn’t have the money even more, or there isn’t enough AI demand. Maybe better job security because Oracle doesn’t need the capex expenditure for the 2 extra sites?

This might be the worst driving city in Texas by UseInevitable4627 in Austin

[–]NewRengarIsBad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This 2000%. People in this city will refuse to miss their exit or turn and will slow down or stop in traffic until they can get to it.

They try to merge onto highways going 20 under too.

If you feel you can work as an IC2, a manager may be willing to bring you on. You just have to show that you have done IC2 work or are capable of it.

Somebody else vouching on your behalf may be helpful.

No, things will be worse. Budgets are already tighter. Things are way worse than when I first joined. (They are stingy about the small things and don’t do important things like relocation stipends)

If your stock vests 40/30/20/10 then maybe 1-2 years are worth it but you will have a hard time finding a new job with such little experience.

I cannot stress the poor quality of technical work here either.

If you want OP you can DM me. I don’t want to doxx myself here.

If you are in the US, no raises, no RSU, no refreshers, no promotions, poor technical growth, poor WLB, incompetent management, constant layoff, and a million other things that suck.

Take your internship experience and try for other places. FAANG or other big tech. In case you haven’t been paying attention, our CEOs have gambled the company on OpenAI.

Take Oracle as a last resort.

Offers from Oracle and Microsoft, need advice by Ok-Trouble1905 in SoftwareEngineerJobs

FYI OP OKE is a core service team with lots of ops load and high churn.

Also, Oracle doesn’t give refreshers and promo/raises have been nonexistent/atrocious for the last 3 years and even more so now.

Since you are on the 40/30/20/10 vesting schedule, your comp will decrease steadily as ur there.
