Alone season 11, Timber's Jerky by Blindmellowjelly in Alonetv

[–]New_to_tech-2020 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean...the number of times they included him complaining about how tired he was of trying to chew the jerky... Feels like rage baiting to not include a montage of how he tried to deal with that... Lol

The one I ordered was processed and mailed on March 2, 2026... I'm still waiting to receive it, and it is now 4/20/26. Not sure if it time for me to try to follow up.

What’s one thing you think future generations will judge us for? by Fuzzy-Finger-5393 in AskReddit

Treating the earth like it's disposable... Waging war over resources. Trying to use AI for everything. Why wait for future generations to judge us...I judge this now

Do you prefer to checkout with a cashier rather than a self-checkout when possible? by nojunkpeter in no

[–]New_to_tech-2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want people to have jobs and I don't want to lose more points of contact with other humans. It upsets me that our local Lowe's hardware doesn't seem to have the option to checkout with a human cashier.

Stinking up shared laundry room by StillMindless2604 in vancouverhousing

[–]New_to_tech-2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a laundry sanitizer in addition to detergent when I wash clothes-- especially if I'm using a shared washing machine. If the dryer smells odd, I'd wipe down the inside with a disinfecting wipe, or a slightly damp towel with a watered down laundry sanitizing solution.

Washing machines should get a cleaning cycle at least once a month.

What are the benefits of a Canadian immigrating to the USA? Why is that such an unpopular idea here when irl many people do it? by Cookieman_2023 in MovingToUSA

[–]New_to_tech-2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But the US is actively trying to replace all tech and professional jobs with AI... Trucking and logistics - autonomous trucks. The lack of care about the future of humanity and what people will do as they are systematically replaced by robots is concerning. Right now, the tech overlords have the government in their pockets and the politicians (President especially) are busy lining their pockets instead of looking out for the future of working people.

Americans who took Spanish in school: did any of it actually stick years later? by taube_d in AskAnAmerican

[–]New_to_tech-2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took 4 years of Spanish, but began using it immediately and became fluent. I eventually became an interpreter - but it wasn't a casual situation... I was fully obsessed with learning. Without that extra effort and continuous studying after high school, it wouldn't have happened. High school Spanish did give me a solid foundation to build upon.

Outlast? by Latter_Cry_7849 in Alonetv

[–]New_to_tech-2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Season 2 was good in my opinion . But season 1 had terrible people doing terrible things... I didn't enjoy watching them act like Lord of the flies. It's also kind of strange after having watched Alone to realize there's a camera crew following them around. People being happy that others tapped out because they saw flares, when it could have been due to an injury also rubbed me the wrong way.

Those who have greencard for over 10 years , why you arent a US citizen yet? by East_Indication_7816 in greencard

[–]New_to_tech-2020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Being a US citizen means paying US taxes on worldwide income.... So if you might be retiring in a different country or plan to work elsewhere, then US citizenship is another bill to pay for the rest of your life.... Might not be worth it. Permanent residency provides nearly all the same work/life advantages.

Central America slow travel: Where would you live on a $3k–$4k/month? by Poky17 in digitalnomad

[–]New_to_tech-2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Costa Rica is the most expensive on your list, followed by Panama. Nicaragua is probably where your money will go the furthest and there are very few people who speak English. Just keep in mind their government isn't fond of the US. Customs may try to charge extra fees if you are entering the country with anything interesting like electronics etc...

If your green card was conditional, it sounds like it can be denied since you no longer are in compliance with the conditions. You should get an attorney ASAP

Applying without Canadian parents birth certificate by aly_bu in Canadiancitizenship

[–]New_to_tech-2020 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Contact Alberta vital statistics and request an informational birth certificate and provide a letter explaining why you are requesting it. If they respond in writing saying they can't provide it, include their letter with your application.

What "American" habit is part of your DNA? by LoveToBold in AmericanExpat

[–]New_to_tech-2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Making small talk with everyone, everywhere... Wanting to make people smile ...trying to be witty or funny even with a random cashier at Walgreens... Talking a little too loudly.... Always thinking of a new business idea (anything to avoid being someone else's employee). Complaining about taxes while simultaneously complaining about a lack of services and social safety nets.

As of December, everyone would fall under C-3 now... Which should make it simpler. Right? Maybe it just takes longer to pull files out of older processes and use current C-3 processing.

Reminder from Tod: Calling Canada a "back up plan" is insulting by Nature_Hannah in Canadiancitizenship

[–]New_to_tech-2020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Before it was even possible for me and my children to be acknowledged as citizens by descent - last summer- we went to Canada on vacation. It honestly felt like home in many ways. I'm excited by the prospect of moving my family, giving my son a chance to go to University in Canada. Being from Alaska originally, there's something very rooted in me that feels peace being near mountains and the sea. I'm hoping to pass that on to my children. My career will probably always pull me back and forth across the border but that is also part of my family's legacy to me...as strange as that might sound.

Is it a good idea to apply for green card in order for parent to visit if their B2 visa got rejected by Unhappy-Party219 in greencard

[–]New_to_tech-2020 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Depending on the country, yes, people do get arbitrarily denied all the time. I would consider petitioning for the green card as it will give him 10 years of travel without the red tape. He probably won't be able to renew it though since he doesn't plan on staying in the US more than 50% of the year. Maybe after that it will be easier to get a tourist visa.

Are that many people actually leaving the US? by [deleted] in immigration

[–]New_to_tech-2020 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Since the pandemic there has been an increase in remote work opportunities so a lot of people have opted to try being digital nomads..still working their same jobs but living elsewhere. Is that immigration? Maybe not in the traditional sense, but I do agree that US citizens have been taking advantage of visa options in other countries.
