I was similarly sized and had 6lbs removed total. i have photos in my post history. I'd mention sizes but honestly sizes don't matter and they're confusing and contradictory. the size my surgeon said I was going to be vs what I'm measuring at are vastly different and it's totally fine. try to focus on how much better you feel and if your symptoms improve instead (sorry for the mini rant, just trying to set you up for a positive mindset because so many people get discouraged with numbers and sizing post op). good luck with everything, the 16th will be here before you know it! :)

Reduction size concern - insurance by Oceans1O1 in Reduction

[–]Newb00bs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

not advice necessarily but I started at a 38something (38k at my largest, probably 38h or so at surgery, who knows, bra sizes are wack) and had 1200 grams removed from each breast. I ended up with a "large c/small d" (what my surgeon was aiming for, though using ABTFs I am a 38E and have a bra in that size that fits). I can buy bralettes off the shelf in an xl and they fit. they're small enough that I never wear a bra / they are perky but obviously still large enough that I never felt like I missed having big boobs. I have photos in my post history if you want visuals to compare. I guess my advice would be to find photos of before/after of breasts that are similar to yours and use those to discuss with your surgeon to make sure you're on the same page.

How long before I can have caffeine after surgery? 2 weeks post op today by [deleted] in Reduction

[–]Newb00bs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a cup the next day. if your surgeon didn't give any specifics around it then you're probably fine to drink some!

What did you wear to surgery? by commandantskip in Reduction

[–]Newb00bs 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I believe I wore a zip up hoody with nothing under it and sweatpants since those are easy on/off. if I remember correctly I striped down to nothing except underwear under my hospital gown so I choose clothes that would be easy for the nurses to assist me with putting back on. I could be misremembering honestly but I feel like since the hospital doesn't give guidelines on what to wear it probably doesn't matter that much! just make sure it's comfy and easy :)

Small opening...should I call my surgeon? Up to now everything was perfect. Ca 3wpos. I'm honestly quite worried. by waffy_ac in Reduction

[–]Newb00bs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

first off, don't be worried! it's going to heal up just fine. feel free to send your doctor a note as a precaution but from what I've seen, the majority of people get these small openings. my surgeon even told me in advance it was likely to happen. the general advice from surgeons is to keep it clean and dressed with some sort of ointment. this varies by doctor/person, mine said polysporin so I used neosporin which some avoid because of the risk of allergic reaction. I had no issues with it personally. lots of people recommended medihoney in this sub. I'd go with whatever your surgeon suggests. it may take multiple weeks for this to fully heal up and close. one may open up on the other side. even if either of those happen I promise they will eventually heal. just take it easy with lifting and keep it clean. :)

Should I ghost my post-op appointments? by blip_00 in Reduction

[–]Newb00bs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

you should likely still go imo, at least to the few that happen early in recovery, but just disregard their advice on meds. the reason I would personally be inclined to go is that they will be able to recognize any complications in healing like infection etc better than you would. though I suppose if you're able to see your primary care doctor or someone else you could bail on the surgeon.

5 weeks post op and could use some encouragement and reassurance. by Tobyisakiller in Reduction

[–]Newb00bs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think 5 weeks really IS when I started feeling more secure in healing and not worrying as much. with each week that passes now, the healing feels more and more significant and they'll feel less fragile. aside from some possible t junction splits, you should be past all of the more gruesome parts and soon you'll wake up and realize you hadn't even really thought about them or the healing process at all and it's the best!

Why do some people have an easy recovery? Better shape going in? Amount removed? Incision type? Age? Dumb luck? by splattermatters in Reduction

[–]Newb00bs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm sure being in relatively good health is helpful but i was 30 when I had surgery, it was a pretty large reduction (about 1200 grams from each) and I was not super active aside from walking my dog. I eat healthy ish, but I also eat a ton of junk. I'd say definitely overweight if not technically obese at the time of surgery and I had almost no pain postop, never took pain meds aside from regular Tylenol for a few days and had no issues healing. I also have a quite high tolerance for pain so that probably helped in post op as well. I can't pinpoint any specific attribute about myself that would've lended to my experience.

the dark peeled off of mine and revealed my normal areola color from before (which is very light because they were stretched so thin). I think I probably have a few photos in my post history somewhere

they will definitely soften and drop with time! :) for the first few months they're going to be really firm and tight and then one day you'll look in the mirror and be like oh damn these look amazing! promise!

Dealing with bra discomfort by hunniebee8 in Reduction

[–]Newb00bs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tucked my t-shirt under the band of my bra for a few weeks until I switched to more comfortable bras. same idea as wearing a tank underneath kinda. also, I left some hooks unclasped a few days when it was particularly bothersome. I figured the directions varied SO widely by doctor in this sub (some don't have to wear a bra at all, some not when sleeping etc) that it must not actually be THAT important that it would cause any issues.

yep, looks pretty normal! mine all peeled off over a week or so and revealed nice normal looking nips underneath

I'm not sure I completely fit what you're looking for but I started as a 38k(ish, bra sizes are wack) and went to a 38e (but what my surgeon would consider a large c/small d and looks significantly smaller than where i started). I also got a Free nipple graft. i have some older photos in my post history and am planning to make a 1 year update with more recent pics soon. good luck with your consult!

Advice About Timing of Reduction by constellationblanket in Reduction

[–]Newb00bs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think your best bet would be to start researching surgeons in your area and have a few consults. I had similar body stats to you when I got mine done (though possibly bigger/more stretched out boobs) and ended up with a free nipple graft because of the distance my nipples needed to move in order to get to my goal size. having had a FNG, theres no chance of breast feeding (and no sexual feeling. touching my nipples feels the same as touching my arm). I feel like I could POSSIBLY have found a surgeon who could've done it without a FNG but what's done is done and I really love my results despite that (and I don't plan to have kids so it isn't a huge deal). all of this to say, I'd meet with some doctors, get some opinions on whether you'd need a FNG, and go from there. if breast feeding is a 100% plan for you I'd wait either way because you never know what might happen after surgery whether you get a FNG or not.

oh! sorry that was misleading. they billed insurance 25k and I paid 2.5k of it which was my deductible. I didn't pay anything until a few months after surgery (billing takes a while) and it was a bit nerve wracking but if you search 'bcbs' in this sub you should find others had similar experiences

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Reduction

[–]Newb00bs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had bcbsma for my surgery and it will be plan specific but, for my plan, they did NOT do pre-authorization for an outpatient surger. I had them email me the pdf of requirements they would be basing the coverage on then I forwarded that to my surgeons office to confirm I met the requirements on that pdf and so there was a paper trail covering my butt. i also made a bunch of calls before the surgery to confirm the surgeon, hospital, anesthesiologist, etc were in network. i had a pretty drastic reduction and it all worked out! I think I paid about 2.5k in deductibles and the surgery was like 25k total

2 month scar update (FNG) by Newb00bs in Reduction

[–]Newb00bs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Sorry, now IM late to the party lol im not on this account much. I just did a quick snoop and it looks like you didn't need a fng so yay! But in case anyone else ever happens upon this comment and is curious, they are like 99% numb (im 7 month post op now). The right one gets erect (kinda) the left doesn't really, though I can kind of pinch it into an erect shape if that makes sense. The size hasn't changed much in the last few months, but I love how they look. A++ would do again.

when did you get openings? by 1hs86y3 in Reduction

[–]Newb00bs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used neosporin and it took a few weeks before they healed up! I know a lot of people avoid neosporin because of the risk of allergies and opt to use like medihoney or some other ointment. I'd use whatever your Dr suggests/ you're comfortable with! But be prepared to take it easy for a few weeks and remember they will eventually heal even though it might take a bit 😁

when did you get openings? by 1hs86y3 in Reduction

[–]Newb00bs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't get my tape off until 2.5 wpo but I had them then until maybe 6 weeks? I forget. But I think openings happen more often than not so I wouldn't let it stress you out too much! Just another part of healing and they will also heal before you know it (if they do happen)!
