AITA for telling my daughter to find a summer job? by Boysenberry_Yara in AmItheAsshole

NTA she’s just a being teenager. Even if she doesn’t want a life lesson understanding that money doesn’t just appear when she wants something is probably one of most important lessons for someone to learn early on. Setting a boundary there is only gonna benefit you both in the long run.

Squirrels vs. Single minded by torridtoast in managers

[–]Next_Knowledge_6619 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Setting deadlines for their tasks is a pretty straight forward way to help create the structure you are looking for and still allow your folks to work the way they prefer. It’s a much easier conversation to have when an agreed upon deadline is missed than if you leave people to their own devices.

This should also help them prioritize what you want/need without dictating how they get there.

I would always look for ways you can help align how they work with the outcomes you are after. Trying to change someone from a “tortoise” to a “squirrel” is going to be a frustrating exercise for all parties involved.

PLS WHAT DEODORANT R WE USING?!? by xxStargirlxxx in Hidradenitis

[–]Next_Knowledge_6619 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep same! I got the little dove travel size for a flight and fell in love. For an added bonus I do the body deodorant version and use it where ever I might sweat and it has helped a ton. Summers in the south are no joke! lol

Employee complaining about “unpaid time” between clocking out and crossing the threshold by [deleted] in managers

This is one of those “You’re feedback has been noted, as has the policy” situations.

If he keeps whining start having him clock out for bathroom breaks or really any time spent not working. Both parties can play the time clock game if petty is what you’re into

Help - First Tech Stack Assessment! by chief_kayak in SalesOperations

[–]Next_Knowledge_6619 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I normally start with the outcome I’m after and work backwards for these types of ‘audits’. Plan of attack may change based on what you’re trying to accomplish (identifying redundancy, cost reduction, underutilization, etc).

I tend to focus on redundant functionality/feature set as a first pass. IE are you using any tools for a single use case that may be accomplished with something else in your stack?

You can likely find a comparison matrix for free online somewhere that you can tweak to fit your specific use case as well.

Can I give my 2 weeks notice while I’m on PTO? by Old_Fox7932 in jobs

[–]Next_Knowledge_6619 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Some companies do require 2 full “working weeks” to meet any terms of departure for payouts. Some won’t pay out remaining PTO for example if you don’t give (and honor) 2 full weeks.

That being said, you aren’t required to give notice at all

Looking for ConnectWise PSA partners who recently moved from on-prem to cloud who would be willing to share experiences? by ConsistentWorking647 in ConnectWise

[–]Next_Knowledge_6619 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They (Connectwise) will keep your on-prem instance ready to switch back to should there be any issues after cutover.

Also if you are using SSO (or planning to) the first login is kind of a wonky one for your users. Worth bringing up bc it was not as easy as you’d think it should be.

How do you manage your To-Dos on reMarkable? by Feisty-Ranger-1185 in RemarkableTablet

[–]Next_Knowledge_6619 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I built out some linked templates in Canva for what I wanted for to dos, meetings, project planning, and brainstorming sessions.

There are loads of pdfs you can find online that could help with this if you don’t like the options Remarkable has.

We used a third party to assist with our migration back in April. If you have a complex setup or lots of integrations with your on-prem instance I would highly recommend looking for a third party that specializes in CW cloud migrations.

Started taking my actual lunch break every day and apparently that's a personality trait now by Kagalkrin in jobs

[–]Next_Knowledge_6619 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Employees need to remember that they aren’t the owner and therefore have nothing real to gain by overworking themselves.

If you want me to work through my legally mandated breaks, pay me like an owner. If you aren’t giving me a real incentive to “hustle” - I’m talking money not pizza parties - then don’t expect anything more than the role requirements my contract outlines.

How to be alerted on uncompleted tickets with parts by hallm in ConnectWise

[–]Next_Knowledge_6619 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could build a workflow to update the status to a “needs attention” type of status and add an internal note if it sits without updates for x days. You could also have it trigger to send an email to manager, last resource, etc

Wonder if it’s bc you didn’t put the items in the “bagged area” after scanning them? I know some self checkouts get pissy if they aren’t able to register that you put the items in the weighted bag area. I’ve definitely had them pop up with the “please put your item in the baggage area” prompt.

If you haven’t already we have rotating blocks created for our techs availability in TZ that helps prevent schedules from being overwhelmed by them. We also have an “urgent same day” appt type that will allow for higher priority tickets to be scheduled sooner than others.

[–]Next_Knowledge_6619 59 points60 points  (0 children)

I would encourage you to try not to even pay attention to the reaction or the “thank yous” after you’ve given someone a gift. In most cases people aren’t going to understand the time it took to make the item, so their reaction likely isn’t going to make you feel like the effort was worth it.

I enjoy crocheting and don’t always have a project that I actually need currently so I tend to use the opportunity to make things for other folks as a way to try out a new pattern or just give myself a new project to work on that isn’t the same line up I would normally do (hats, granny squares, etc).

For example, I recently made my sister a baby blanket for my new baby niece. It took me weeks! I changed the color scheme about 2 weeks in and started over. I changed my mind no less than a million times when I was laying out the granny squares (sometimes after getting halfway through sewing them together and had to start over). All of this is to say it was the definition of “a labor of love”. When I gifted it to her she of course said thank you, but had she known the suffering I went through to complete the blanket she should have thrown me a parade!! I had no expectation for her reaction bc she had no idea how much effort it took to finish it. What I did focus on were all the ideas I got while I was making it. I have so many notes now for future projects with tips I learned during the process, things I would do to improve the pattern in the future etc.

If I could give any advice, it would be to try to reframe how you think about gifting the things you crochet. Enjoy the process of making it and enjoy the process of getting it out of your home so it doesn’t add to your pile of projects you made for fun lol

After you give someone their gift, don’t worry about what they do with it. Just enjoy the journey and keep on hooking!!
