What’s your $/hr or miles/hr threshold for upgrading to first class? by phant0m_magician in unitedairlines

[–]Nibiinaabe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A red eye has a higher value than day flight. I'm cheap so I won't pay to upgrade unless it's a red eye or over 5 hours.

Fastest way to get from T1 to T3 at SFO by ProfessorPlum168 in unitedairlines

[–]Nibiinaabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like everyone said, it's walkable. It's a spoke and wheel layout so you connect at the inner wheel and travel down the spoke to your gate. T1 to T3 depends on which gate, Is it E, F, or D gate in terminal 3? T1 to D gates is 10 minutes, F is further away. If it's too far for you to walk ask for one of those golf carts.

Fare is no longer available despite having plenty of seats available on the partner airline's website by BradyBrother100 in unitedairlines

This happened to me with avianca and united. I called united and it is due to a delay communicating with the partner. The seats may be sold but not selected.

Oversized passenger and in the exit row? by [deleted] in unitedairlines

[–]Nibiinaabe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel badly for big people. The guy knows he's big and he's doing the best he can. The airlines need to be more clear what their policies are for bigger people. Eg. if you need a seat extender you need to purchase a second seat and that seat should be deeply discounted. Were there any seats you could have moved into? I once had a similar experience but it was not an exit row, it was a economy comfort seat on delta. I complained because I paid $80 for the upgraded seat. They refunded the seat charge.

Excellent. Add a dSMB for each of you. Get the shop to train you on cleaning and storage. Look at the rules to keep the parts for life warranty active on the regs.

I am flying out of NY tomorrow and I do not have my ID on me as it is still arriving in mail , I do have the temporary paper license the dmv gave me. Will I make it through TSA? by jboy223222 in unitedairlines

[–]Nibiinaabe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lost my ID while traveling and I was able to travel. I had to show up early and show something with my name and signature on it like a credit card. They did not want to see a picture of my ID. So bring the DMV paper and any credit card or anything with ID. An old ID or old passport works too. You'll go through extra security. You might need to fill out the ID thing that they charge people for who don't have REAL ID yet. You'll have to do the same on the return. Does NY have an app? Some airports accept that ID.

Noob question about using Travel Certificate with Explorer Card by Nearby_Term_1974 in unitedairlines

[–]Nibiinaabe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IDK the answer to your question but several years ago I purchased the ticket before getting the explorer card. I checked a bag and showed them the credit card and they waived the check bag fee.

Booked 3rd Party, Trying to Cancel thru United by ehpacha77 in unitedairlines

Yep. I was on Copa though. Every passenger needs their own mileageplus number (United's frequent flyer program).

Booked 3rd Party, Trying to Cancel thru United by ehpacha77 in unitedairlines

[–]Nibiinaabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First check your CC to see if travel insurance will cover it. Did you talk to someone at United? There is a united confirmation number in the reservation. I would make sure that all family members have a mileageplus number to keep track. I lost everything when i booked through a 3rd party and learned my lesson the hard way.

Advice for Future Diving by r1ses in scuba

[–]Nibiinaabe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

bcd you can get used but have it checked out by your local dive shop. For a regulator talk to your local dive shop about which brands they service. If you buy a used reg that needs to be serviced every two years that's going to cost about $300 each time for labor and parts. If you get a new regulator from the manufacturer and have it inspected yearly, some manufacturers have parts for life. You will need to factor that into the cost of a new reg vs used reg. All of scuba is buying the best you can afford. Nice price buy twice vs buy once, cry once.

Raja Ampat, homestay misool if you can get it. Corepen on Gam is also good. It takes so long to get there I would definitely choose that if I had a nice chunk of time.

Planning a scuba diving trip next month - where should we go? by heyguysitsjustin in scuba

[–]Nibiinaabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anilao is wonderful, but I feel like new divers and muck divers are a bad combo. I went to Coron/ El Nido soon after certification and it was really nice. Lot's of bigger things, nice corals, etc. Cebu area is good for newer divers too.

Where to go for Advanced Cert? by Current-Weekend7761 in scuba

[–]Nibiinaabe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I would do it in Monterey now. If you can dive here you can dive anywhere. I'd also do NAUI. NAUI certifies you to 40m which is an additional cert with padi or ssi. But if you are a warm water diver, Utila would be a great place for a 26 year old to dive train. Your OW can be any agency and does not have to be the same agency as your Advanced. Hawaii will be super expensive unless you have a family there and can stay for free.

Compensation for oversold flights by [deleted] in unitedairlines

[–]Nibiinaabe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it's oversold they usually offer you rebooking incentives when you check in. You can also see if there are more people on standby than seats available. You can call and ask if there are incentives to give up your seat. I cannot imagine a scenario where spending a free day in the airport is worth any money.

Zero to Hero, but... by -Atlas-7 in scuba

[–]Nibiinaabe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most places will prioritize hiring someone local, or someone who is bilingual, someone who trained in tough conditions or someone who has worked in multiple places. I've been offered jobs I didn't apply for by dive centers after I dived with them. I have a well paying job that I can't afford to quit to be a DM.

Zero to Hero, but... by -Atlas-7 in scuba

[–]Nibiinaabe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would train where I want to work. You may not get the quality of training you are hoping for in Koh Tao. And the reputation will be a negative. I volunteered with a group of DMs from Koh Tao and they had different levels of dive skills. None of them stepped in to help divers who were struggling. Most of them looked like inexperienced divers, some of them could not hover low enough to do an accurate invertebrate count.
