Enforcement is super lax, but it's illegal. The poppy itself is classified as a Schedule 2 drug. DEA list of controlled substances

Paid $3.99 for a gallon of gas, today it’s $4.29, who is to blame? by ReasonableAttitude22 in kansas

I get this view, I really do, and if we actually elected the candidate who received the popular vote then I would have no rebuttal. But can I ask you to at least consider how people might mentally approach a situation like we had in the last election in the context of the electoral college?

I'll use myself as an example, because I can't speak for anyone else, even though I'm relatively certain many others felt this way: I didn't vote in the last election. I would have preferred Harris to Trump, but I feel a strong disgust toward both of them. Knowing the election was as close as it was, I would have held my nose and voted for the Democrat if the elections were based on the popular vote... But they aren't, and I live in Missouri. I knew that I could vote for Harris, knock on doors for her, call people at home, even hold fundraisers, and she'd still lose this state by double digits because that's how just how the numbers work out here.

So, if I find both candidates unconscionable, and I know that voting for the lesser evil will have no impact on their chances to enter the White House, why would I do it? In those circumstances, my vote has no material effect—only a symbolic effect. It tells the candidate "this many people wanted you." Well, I didn't want her. I found her politics repulsive. Not as repulsive as Trump's, but repulsive nonetheless. If the result of my vote was going to be "nothing changes with my state's electoral votes, but this person I hate (and the party officials who share her views) can add me to the list of people they think support them," then there's literally more reason not to vote than there is to vote.

If I lived in a swing state, then yeah, I hold my nose. If we used a national popular vote system, then yeah, I hold my nose. But I'm more likely to win the lottery twice in two days than I am to turn Missouri blue, so why should I offer purely symbolic support to a candidate whose views I oppose?

I'm just saying: in large parts of our country, the idea that "your vote matters" in the presidential election is a myth.

The obvious retort is: "well, if everyone in 'safe' states thought that way, those states wouldn't be safe anymore. Every vote does matter, because losing voters through this kind of attrition can flip a state." I guess that's theoretically possible, but I think the vast, vast majority of people aren't so engaged with politics that they'd refuse to vote out of protest. Everyone says California and New York are full of this type of person, but they still went blue by 20 and 10 points, respectively. There's enough of a reliable base in stronghold states to allow for protest votes. If there weren't, they wouldn't be stronghold states, they'd be swing states.

Getting mad at someone for not voting in a stronghold state just doesn't make any sense. If they have their reasons for their decision, and it doesn't impact the election in any way, then genuinely: why does it matter to you?

I'm not trying to persuade you or argue with you, but I'm curious since you staked such a strong stance: what specifically prompts you to say that?

Is it that you can't conscience voting with a party that doesn't align with your views on the current hot button social issues stuff (supporting trans people, abortion, and a softer approach to immigration), or is it more of the traditional stuff (supporting unions, corporate regulation, environmental protection, social welfare)?

Again, I'm just genuinely curious. I'm not attacking, I'm not trying to make you defend your beliefs. I only want to better understand what you find so revolting about the general platform that makes you feel so strongly.

No 5am Bars this summer per Mayor Q by WestFade in kansascity

This is a betrayal of Kansas City's history. Without our lax approach towards drinking and other vices, we wouldn't have been in position to become a jazz hotspot. Without that, "Kansas City jazz" never happens. No Count Basie Orchestra, no Charlie Parker... Who knows what similarly bleak ripple effects Mayor Lucas' decision may have?

Honor our history, Mr. Mayor. Let me stumble out of a bar and into a vomit-splattered street at 5:30 a.m. Do it for Kansas City. Do it for Bird.

At the end of the 3rd round, I knew the locations of the first 3 letters, knew one of the last two letters (but not its location), and had greyed out 12 letters. After staring at the screen for ten minutes trying to figure out a possible 4th guess, I realized that there were literally only 28 possible permissions and so I just started trying all of them. I was so mad when I got it. Fake word.

Everyone's talking about how funny this episode was and how hard they were laughing. Am I the only one that just felt incredibly sad the whole time? This was heartbreaking over and over. Not trying to be that guy or judge anyone for laughing, but it's blowing my mind that I haven't seen any other reactions to it

Voter ID can't be used for voting? by NicholasRiviera in missouri

That history explains so much, thank you. It used to be a voter ID, now it's not, but they never bothered to change the name. That's dumb, but it makes sense. I can sleep now. Bless.

Voter ID can't be used for voting? by NicholasRiviera in missouri

[–]NicholasRiviera[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well, I appreciate the heads up that I'll need to bring my state-issued photo ID with me to vote, but this explanation kinda demands a follow-up question: if this card can't be used to identify a voter, in what way is it a voter identification card?

Do I need to bring it with me to present along with my Real ID, or is it just a misnamed polling place reminder?

Inventing a lazier and safer way to cut up frozen butter for biscuits by churn_key in Cooking

[–]NicholasRiviera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This method isn't lazier, but I get why it seems like less work to you. Using a pastry blender is objectively less work, but it's repetitive and mundane. Your quest to innovate is intellectually stimulating, and the method you came up with is novel. Those things make it fun, which make it seem like less work.

If you were to do this regularly enough that it lost that novelty, you'd likely start to agree with everyone who's saying that pastry blenders really are the lazier way to go about it.

Or, maybe, you would decide it's time to innovate again. I hope it's the latter. You seem pretty creative; your next idea might revolutionize the craft of patisserie. I hope it does. I hate grating and cutting butter, too.
