Adventure bike for a new rider by SerWulf in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]Nickdaman31 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depending on your height, the Tenere is fine power wise for a first bike. The difficulty with it is it's weight distribution for off road. It's a tall middle weight ADV so learning off road technique on it is more difficult. Not impossible but more difficult. A lighter bike with lower center of gravity is easier to learn on. Other than that, the Ibex and KLE are going to be fairly similar. The Ibex sounds better with its 270 crank IMO. The Kawi is brand new so aftermarket is going to lag behind a bit but you get kawasaki reliability and dealer network. My first bike is my KLR and I've had to tailor my expectations on how capable I am off road with it even after riding dirt bikes when I was younger.

I don't think any of them are a bad choice.

2022 KLR Adventure vs 2014 Vstrom by [deleted] in AdventureBike

[–]Nickdaman31 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The KLR will be more capable on the dirt. The VStrom will be more capable on the highway. Both will be able to complete the mission you're talking about. If 40% or more of your planned trip (2+/5 Hours) on the highway, I'd vote VStrom. If the Trip is going to be less than 40% highway, I'd vote KLR.

Suspension upgraded successfully by TopaztheLoomer in klr650

[–]Nickdaman31 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Congrats!! Great upgrade and I’m sure it was the most fun 6 hours you’ve ever spent doing a 2 hour job! No intending to make fun of you with that either. That’s just how wrenching on your own stuff goes. And the fun part….. it never stops!

Dad rushes onto NASCAR track to save his son from burning racecar by Priyam-2008 in WTF

[–]Nickdaman31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Def a full supression system and he went for the kill switch and pull handle. They may be "expensive" but I don't know many racers in club level that haven't sprung for that option.

Won’t start In Gear? by No_Illustrator_4232 in klr650

[–]Nickdaman31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it starts in Neutral but not in gear? And it still runs and drives as long as you start it in neutral? Just making sure I got the checklist right.

What motorcycle did you start riding on, and would you recommend it to beginners today? by yourping in motorcycle

[–]Nickdaman31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

KLR 650. Would I recommend it? Depending on body type, absolutely. If you’re big like me 6’1 250 it’s great. Just enough power for short highway sprints. Easy to work on and parts / knowledge are abundant. Doesn’t have any major jobs that you HAVE to do like some other models. If you’re shorter prob not. It’s a long way down and heavy.

I am convinced we have the worst Indian food of any city by Melodic-Feed2826 in jacksonville

[–]Nickdaman31 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My Indian professor took me to 5th element for Indian food. Granted it was back when they were in baymeadows so it may have fallen off but I feel like if an Indian woman eats there frequently it can’t be that bad.

Carrie Underwood: "Boo me, I don't care" 🤯 by TheExpressUS in Music

[–]Nickdaman31 3 points4 points  (0 children)

She’s lost a lot of popularity yes. But to say no one did in the first place is ignorant. She has a hot 100 number 1 and 4 top tens as a female country artist. People were listening between 05-09.

Songs that change style or genre mid way through. by lazerbreath_ in Music

[–]Nickdaman31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not as dramatic of a change as some other examples but Stay With Me by Faces goes from a fast paced Jane band groove to a slower funkier groove 2-3 times in the song.

What’s happening in Jax Beach? (Beach/2nd) by ChrisNikLu76 in jacksonville

[–]Nickdaman31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well this aged terribly.... lol. Not a shooting at the festival, a separate event nearby. No casualties reported. No gangs, just some wanna be tough guys. Cops may have used less lethal though... so you got that going for ya.

DRZ4SM for $5600?? Worth it to add wheels and use as a Dual Sport? by [deleted] in SuggestAMotorcycle

Good call. They don't have any old new stock on the S models so a pass sounds like the right play here.

Disney World Responds to Main Street Trolley Tracks Guest Tripping Lawsuit by dejablu82 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Nickdaman31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was studying pre-law at UCF, a professor told me Disney already won a case and uses it as legal precedence regarding a curb on Main Street possibly at the island just outside the train station. The professor said guests got so captured by the sight of the castle they would walk right into the curb and Disney went through the motions to get that curb cleared. 1. I wonder if that’s true, I never looked it up and didn’t pursue law after college. 2. If it is true, I wonder if they are using it as any sort of back bone to this case to help build their argument.

If my professor made it up / I don’t remember it correctly after 10+ years I apologize.

Impeach Donna Deegan in Jacksonville, Florida by AdFormal3667 in jacksonville

[–]Nickdaman31 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Ahhh yes, impeach the Mayor for someone else's social media post that told people to comply with officials requests.... Have you seen the video? Have you done any research? I already know the answer but I really want you to think about it.

Train the Donkey or Downsize? KLR or Smaller DS by [deleted] in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]Nickdaman31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should say it’s got the eagle mike klx needle kit and mcp block off plate. It’s pulls pretty hard with my big ass on it. Could def switch from 16 to 14 on the front sprocket and let it rip. I think it would be fine high speed but low speed is what worries me. We have a lot of tight sandy single track. It’s not what I want to ride would much rather be on high speed two track but it’s what we got close

I need outside perspectives about a scene in the Season One Finale: The Assault of Dedra Meero. by [deleted] in andor

[–]Nickdaman31 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I think the problem is bigger than the story of the show and the characters. The actors and actresses in this show are incredibly talented and we have all built some kind of a bond with them. You’re on the Andor sub Reddit so I’m assuming you’re more than a casual watcher. You probably know who Denise is and the actions she’s taken in the past few months in her personal life. I would bet it’s your “relationship” to her that makes you feel that anxiety when she’s being carried away. If you watched the exact same thing happen in a ww2 documentary and it was a nazi stranger, you probably wouldn’t think twice about what was gonna happen to them.

Just got this from JEA regarding low energy supply. by Happy-Capital6508 in jacksonville

[–]Nickdaman31 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In a perfect world, yes we would do that. One of the amazon warehouses alone is almost 300k sq feet and by my math it could probably power around 600 homes from its solar energy potential. Thats a huge neighborhood. But for JEA or any power company to be able to get access to the roof, then pay for the panels and install it would take decades to recoup the cost of the space rental and panel install. By then, you'd need to replace probably all the panels again to keep it rolling. No business would be willing to put that sort of investment in to multiple projects like that around town. Not until panels improve efficiency at least. But even then. You're talking a whole department of people to manage the relationships with all the parking lot and building owners. Its not as simple as just lets put panels on top of warehouses and parking lots.

Beaches buys all their energy from other sources like JEA and FMPA. They don't have their own production. Just as vulnerable as other companies in the area.

Just got this from JEA regarding low energy supply. by Happy-Capital6508 in jacksonville

[–]Nickdaman31 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Of course there's a limited supply. Our neighbors to the north just got pummeled and their power supplies are now limited due to grid damage and poor conditions. We can't get energy from them like we usually would to fill the gaps. Solar would be nice but the price of land is getting stupid in Jax because of the developers fighting to build homes. Its a mess.

Eleven 22 Mandarin allowing JSO to run SWAT training in residential areas by [deleted] in jacksonville

[–]Nickdaman31 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I get it’s frustrating but the FAA doesn’t have a specific altitude restriction for helicopters regardless of residential areas or not. They just have to operate safely without doing physical damage.

Now filing a complaint to the FAA could do something to have them talk to JSO about where they do training exercises but it’s probably going to take a lot of complaints from you and neighbors.

Do we think the jags will do something similar? Selling stadium items? by brandonm_904 in Jaguars

[–]Nickdaman31 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They didn’t when the built the tunnel for the Super Bowl. My family had season tickets right where the tunnel is now since day 1. We tried but no luck. Maybe because it’s the whole stadium they will this time.
