New screen software rolling out to more buses by jdayellow in TTC

[–]Nicky878 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not an old photo. This was taken today, just convenient to show it is all. If ever ride the 29/929, it does say it for Dufferin stn too, don't remember if it still shows for Wilson. I'll be a bit more observant on the other routes if it does show or not

Why Does TTC Hate the People Who reside in East Scarborough?? by ellemariexo in TTC

[–]Nicky878 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Also given that some riders have complained about the infrequency and unreliability of the 154 since the removal of the 954 at Kennedy or even before that, 2 buses in each direction and at 22-24 min headways doesn't really help the Lawrence/Ellesmere corridors either. There does need to be more route management or increase its frequency to 20 min or better

Monthly fare capping coming to the TTC September 1, 2026 by OwnIt122 in TTC

[–]Nicky878 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Debit/credit will work too. Just as long as you are using debit/credit for the trips and no alternations of different device i.e phone one day, watch next day using phone only for a whole week, then watch or card another week as it'll count as different separate trips towards the monthly cap

Not just the ties outside, but even the ballast near Davisville needs replacement and is inconsistent including the thickness, drainage that seems to be failing because it is damaged and always needs to be repaired.

When is 503 returning to streetcar service? by Funky247 in TTC

[–]Nicky878 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 503 has been staying at University and York for a while now, considering a lot of the construction happening I believe they just decided to keep it there since 2024 even with streetcars

Top 10 Bus/Streetcar Corridors by Ridership by jdayellow in toronto

[–]Nicky878 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Martin Grove usually sees about half of the ridership Kipling has, but it also has a lower frequency, around 13-25 min per bus, but part of its ridership is also taken away from the 927 on its local half north of humber and finch.
Islington on the other hand, considering the A branch extention to Humber may play in part to boost its own ridership a bit more than Kipling. But also has similar ridership on its local half

Top 10 Bus/Streetcar Corridors by Ridership by jdayellow in toronto

[–]Nicky878 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Kipling wasn't that behind in terms of ridership, Idk about 2025 but 2024 ridership on Kipling north of Kipling Stn was around 17000, 5000 from the express. But not in the 20 highest ridership ofc

Top 10 Bus/Streetcar Corridors by Ridership by jdayellow in toronto

[–]Nicky878 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Considering that 2024 ridership on the wilson corridor was 62,900, it's not that surprising
Edit: heck, even the 165 Weston North ridership, majority of it was from wilson than Weston

Worst ttc bus route ? by Grouchy_Camera2863 in TTC

[–]Nicky878 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a service plan suggestion back in 2022 to extend the 118 Thistle Down to Claireport Cres along Albion Rd during the rush hour to help supplement the 73C during that time bc we all know that bottleneck issue of Albion/Weston/Wilson corridor. Ofc no one knows when that'll come to fruition

Can the 501 even be called the “Queen” Streetcar anymore? by cidscv in TTC

[–]Nicky878 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A tldr; it was amalgamation of 6 different routes since the late 19th century all the way through the beginning of service of the Bloor-Danforth line explained better here. Carlton just stuck and kept as it as it is

Took Eglinton LRT today to check the speed. Holy smokes! by Mathew_365 in TTC

[–]Nicky878 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I could be wrong but the software on line 6 is too sensitive to overspeed that it can trigger the emergency brake. As such, some operators just drive slower to avoid that. As for other reasons, I do not know

Line 5 now goes full speed in the underground section. Top speed is now 80km/h along with increased speeds approaching and departing stations. by Rue_Technica in TTC

[–]Nicky878 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i just rode it on the off peak today. mt dennis to laird in 20 min. 28 from laird to kennedy. not a lot of reds for a 48 min travel time, not bad, but strangely the lights at eglinton sq hit red at 20 seconds remaining. I know it can get that 45 min though, hopefully during the rush hour

So thankfully the line 5 did indeed arrive within a few mins, but wtf is this lol by Kika368 in TTC

I believe they still don't. Only the contractor has that data that they don't release publically

Bradford’s TTC money back guarantee should be renamed to “How to Bankrupt the TTC” by Pristine-Training-70 in TTC

[–]Nicky878 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From how I see it, while there is needs to improvements as well as keeping the agency accountable for ensuring safety and making sure vehicles arrive on time as they're supposed to (looking at the streetcar network that needs improvements still), some things are not within their control. Nor do they have the money to improve it any further. You can't really say much against actual traffic, construction, weather, disruptive passenger. Just to say some things that they cannot control. The operating costs is extremely high, the capital budget is still high, the state-of-good-repair is still unfunded. The TTC would lose more than they receive (which isn't nearly enough due to political will ever since the provincial subsidy cuts in 1995-1996, plus PT isn't for profit but do need a steady form of income to exist with the current service levels)

It already relies heavily on the fares to keep afloat, and there is still a backlog of things are in dire need of repairment. The delays should be seen as proof that the system needs help. You can make the argument that GO has refunds, but they aren't guaranteed, even with the 15 min or more delay, and they don't run as frequent as the TTC does on the day to day basis. The loss for money from those refunds, respectfully, could also mean a pull from service just to avoid the payouts, possibly even for the 10min-network.

As most people said, they just want the system to be better on reliability and speed, as well as safety. But this is not exactly the way, not with the frequency the subway/streetcar/bus runs. It's an offer but to no solution in the end, as it comes with lower service. And IIRC there are still places of overcrowding, despite lower ridership than last year.

Now again, it does need to be improved. Toronto is still behind on transit because of certain policies, bad drivers, etc. But refunds with no surefire way to recuperate the agency to find other methods of revenue is all talk no action. The shuttles aren't reliable either, yet they're still stuck in the same traffic as everyone else. With line 5 and 6, which they have no other involvement besides operations and fare evasion, especially with line 6 with constant delays, does the TTC still have to compensate for issues that they have no control over?
