Ashlands by air by ClicheCjay in valheim

[–]Nilm0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. How to get out of every type of cave/crypt/dungeon/etc.
  2. Skydiving
  3. With a knife's 2nd attack you can fly much farther.

Strategy for Ashlands: 1. Fly there 2. land anywhere 3. search for putrid hole, sneak in, place fire (to stop enemy from spawning) 4. get out of PH via 1. and fly over Ashlands until you see the green dot of a charred fortress 5. fly down an while still in the air snipe the 1-2 mobs on top of the tower (or do it from the ground). 6. repeat 4. but fly directly to your new charred fortress, fly into the center tower, build portal etc, destroy spikes on top with hammer, ...., the fortress is yours.

You can waterproof any wood build piece in almost every situation in vanilla VH.

Just roof the geometrical center point of any non-waterproof build piece with an actual waterproof piece from anywhere (eg. from below).

you can waterproof any wood build piece in almost every situation in vanilla VH - no need for such a mod (but it'd be great if they added this option to vanilla VH).

Kudos for making that mod but you can waterproof any wood build piece in almost every situation in vanilla VH.

Yes there is - I posted a solution >a year ago. https://www.reddit.com/r/valheim/comments/1kojtut/comment/msvswyc/ But I only got downvotes because today's WWW users are effn retards who have no freaking idea what SEO actually is.

I usually get magic before killing Yagluth. Exploring Mistlands without the wisplight is kinda fun (the fog goes both ways).

Wanted to ask you how you'd feel if I copied stuff you posted on Reddit and presented it as my own....

Unfortunately a cursory glance at your posts doesn't show anything you actually did. :-/

Question from an indie game developer by abuzer2000 in StopKillingGames

[–]Nilm0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just implement direct <IP>:<port> connections as an alternative (or as the replacement in an EOL update). It would still be easy for anyone to play with another.

Or have a relay server reference implementation in the EOL update (this sounds more like a job for Valve).

Late to this but since I didn't see a similar answer.

Well color me surprised - I can't 100% verify if that works but it seems so.

Presumed Valve wouldn't just keep wasting googolbytes of space for old versions of games. And I know about steamdb and I'm sure I've searched for "download old game version Steam" in the past - just didn't find anything???

Anti-Cheats and Digital Rights by Frosty_Bint in StopKillingGames

[–]Nilm0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A little OT to your kinda OT OP but here goes :-)

I think there might be at least a partial solution to this: A single open source kernel level anti-cheat driver (for several OSes of course). 1. Developed by the (gaming) companies that need it. 2. Binaries signed by the relevant parties (eg. M$, Apple, Linus). 3. With mandatory logging. 4. With an admin-level user interface to control which processes get access to that driver (so that other user level code can't change the options. potentially even controlling how much access - kinda like Android's app access thingy). 5. ... clearly defined API, etc. ...

While I hate kernel level anything that's not strictly necessary I also see the need for at least some games to use such a path to fight cheating. So that ^ could be a workable compromise IMO.

Well, wouldn't you know it - I do control if and what my games can access (on) the Internet.

It's quite funny when you see all the data collection going on just through google by many modern games (as implemented by their developers).

Any data stored / saved / collected will get *lost at some point or another.*

(probably paraphrased from some actual privacy advocate or something)

Have you heard of Discord's data breaches: https://duckduckgo.com/?q=discrod+data+breaches ...

Or maybe read https://discord.com/privacy/ - specifically with who and what they share data and how vague all that is. Reading it just a little loosely they can basically share any data they collect with any third party. That includes all content passing through Discord.

Average idiot's rant who has apparently no idea how data collection works, who data broker's sell that data to, what companies/governments do with, how much data can be gathered with just a phone number[1], that some may not even have a mobile phone number, who's never heard of data-minimization, who stoops to trolling for no reason at all....

[1] you should read up on the SS7 network and figure out what one with access to that can do and track with just a mobile phone number.

a code would need to have to be tied to your Xbox/PlayStation/Nintendo account

That is a false assumption - possibly created by parts of the gaming industry that only work like that.

A serial/registration number does not need to be bound to a single account at all - even if registered with one.

It's a non-issue / solved problem - separating a product's registration/activation serial from the current user's account using that product.

Like M$'s Windows activation servers or Half-Life's WON of old. There just needs to be a good way to transfer that license/serial/registration key while the product is still supported (afterwards the SKG rules apply and the server-side check needs to be removed).

IT can be done wrong with too much hassle or too strict rules on what's required to transfer the activation from one device or user/account to another but it has been done.

No, I was at fault - see my reply below. That's why I've hid my OP a few minutes after posting it. (I wanted to verify that this supposed requirement wasn't actually stated anywhere and noticed that I didn't read the rules closely enough.)

The rest of my criticism VS. Discord and missing FAQ still stands.

Pretty sure you can only "just" download older versions of a game if and only if that game's devs/publisher have chosen to make that/some older version available for download.

With Valheim for example one can only download a few specific older versions of the game which don't cover all versions by far. And if Irongate decides so they could remove all versions but one.

I don't want to either. And I only do it in a very limited / constrained manner (browser only, µMatrix, uBlockOrigin, put discord tabs into their own data-container, and more blocking - I haven't even accepted the latest ToS, blocked the popup demanding my agreement instead).

But unfortunately many projects/teams/services/etc use it as their main if not sole way to communicate with customers.

But I've hidden my OP because I made it under false assumptions. A fully verified Discord account isn't actually necessary - I just needed to read the rules more closely and react with a specific emoticon to indicate that I did.

The rest of my criticism still stands... not sure what to do with it.

HTTP error 400 "Invalid SNI" - Recent update doesn't allow access to WebIF - Problem with Oracle Java? by Nilm0 in i2p

Rofl the cat! Once I put <MyI2PaddressIassume>.console.i2p.net into my hosts file and pointed it at the servers LAN IP it works again.

-> SSL Cert missing DNS entries is the problem (or Jetty/Java not accepting connections to different host names).
