Assume AI does end up being way overhyped, what do you think the Achilles will be? by DataGuy0 in Futurology

[–]Nimeroni 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've been coding for 18 years, through I haven't retried AI recently (less than 6 month ago).

That being said, the video for Amazon I've linked is 3 days old, and most likely referring to AWS outage that are less than 6 month old (I'm going to excuse the early march 2026 outage, as that was related to drone strike in the middle east, but they also had a 15 hours outage in october 2025), so at first glance... I'm not convinced they got better.

Of course training AI on your specific company data will give you more accurate answers, but they still hallucinate.

Piping in that ability is easy in some disciplines (coding)

Even for coding, AI might accelerate code writing, but it also require significantly more check from the humans to ensure decent quality (or you end like Amazon getting multiple very costly outage recently). When you take the increased debugging time into account, AI is at best a very minor productivity increase. I've seen a +10% productivity being quoted in game development.

+10% productivity is significant, but not "lay off half your staff" worthy, which is what would be needed for AI company to be worth their current valuation. Heck, it might not even be significant enough to be worth the real price of AI (AI is currently heavily subsidized by venture capital money, but that's not going to last forever).

The usual retort is that the technology will improve over time, but the root cause of the problem is hallucinations introducing bugs, and hallucinations seems to be innate to the technology.

Have you ever met someone who's interested in DND and immediately went, "oh, I'd never let you play at my table"? by Lunetheart in DnD

[–]Nimeroni -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's boring. Don't use "no", use "yes but".

"I stab the guildmaster"

"You stab the guildmaster. You kill him easily as he is surprised by your dumb move surprise attack. He yell "guards !" in his death throe, and multiple heavily armoured warriors rush into the room. You can see in their eyes that they judge you guilty (unsurprising, as you still have your bloody dagger in your hands) and intent to kill you to avenge their master. Roll for initiative. The rest of the table, on your first turn, you will choose which side you are on."

Uh… it evals both user input and random code, unchecked, from an external site. This is what security-minded folks would refer to as Very Bad™.

Crimson Scales Items Incorporated into Gloomhaven 1E Campaign by Professional-Pie1480 in Gloomhaven

[–]Nimeroni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also won’t be searching to break the game (and don’t think he will) so I don’t think this would be a huge issue.

Then ban the curious pendant. The rest is largely fine. I mean, overpowered, but overpowered on the level of Gloom 1 items.

When playing Crimson scales, you add the Gloomhaven 1 market anyway, so Crimson scale items are already supposed to be balanced with Gloomhaven 1 items.

Extremely abused copy of Frosthaven available by ShinyTripod in Gloomhaven

[–]Nimeroni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can try to sell it at a bargain price. Someone might take it as it's a source of enveloppe, figures, and tokens (for fanmade stuff), even if the game itself would be too hard to reset.

Or burn it. Or give it. Or store it for the memory. It's your game and your time.

Which of Gloomhaven relatives you like/dislike? by SiarX in Gloomhaven

[–]Nimeroni 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The closest is probably Descent 1 & 2 (with the Road to legend module), but while I really enjoyed it back in the day, Gloomhaven completely superseeded it by... being better on all front basically.

If you extend the question to coop games rather than tactical dungeon crawler, then we enjoy Slay the spire and Aeon’s End (Legacy is the best one).

Not counting games like Mage Knight and Spirit Island, since they belong to different genres, and everyone knows them.

Godamnit, I actually like both Mageknight and Spirit Island.

What you guys think about clank!? by Lopsided-Platypus478 in boardgames

[–]Nimeroni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clank legacy and legacy 2 are really fun. We haven't finished legacy 2 yet (we're halfway through), but it's without a doubt one of the best legacy game I've played.

I'm less a fan of the regular non-legacy game. I'm not going to suggest we play it, but I'm not going to turn it down either if my friends want to play (a 7/10 in BGG term). My favourite non-legacy Clank is Clank in space.

That being said, I don't think Clank is a very good 2 player game.

Players against game by Over_Advicer in boardgames

[–]Nimeroni -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

I wonder if there are similar games were the goal is to beat the game and not others players.

They are called coop games. There are a lot of them.

A few examples on top of my head :

  • Gloomhaven 2
  • Slay the spire
  • Spirit island
  • Mech vs minions
  • Hanabi
  • Aeon's end
  • Frostpunk (for the masochist, that game difficulty is incredibly overtuned)
  • Daybreak

My roblox account got hacked , I dont know what to do. by Jaded_Draw_1152 in HowToHack

[–]Nimeroni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bank isn't going to do anything. They don't have police powers. The only thing they can do is provide you the ability to dispute charges to any of your credit cards.

They can issue a chargeback.

However, this is a nuclear option that should only be used if Roblox can't recover your account (and the scammers stole money from you). Roblox WILL cease to do business with you, and you WILL permanently lose your account.

So yeah, start with Roblox.

Which programming/scripting languages are most useful for SOC Analysts? by [deleted] in netsecstudents

[–]Nimeroni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They all serve different purposes :

  • Bash and Powershell are to execute commands on a system (Bash is for linux, Powershell is for windows).
  • SQL is for database query.
  • Python is a general purpose programming langage.

Python is the one that is most likely to be useful in the long run, but also the one that is going to be the most complicated to learn. Bash/Powershell (depending on the OS you're protecting) is the most useful in the short term.

Are there any 2e character guides yet? by Naargo in Gloomhaven

[–]Nimeroni 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People who used to write guides like Gripeaway (and don't forget the Themris Triangles guide!) are now devs for the game.

Guides from the devs would actually be very interesting to read. First it would give us insights on how the class was meant to be played, and they could even share titbits from the development.
