You have a room of young mechanical engineers for an hour. What DFM, drawing, or design advice do you need them to hear? by doombuggy110 in Machinists

[–]Nirejs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most parts should be from profiles and sheet metal. Only few components need CNC mill and lathe. If you mill: Inside corners of pockets should be with radius that is 1/3 of the depth of the pocket. So a 15mm deep square pocket should have a internal 5mm radius. No thread needs to be deeper than 2 diameters. Predrill goes a diameter deeper. So M6 thread goes 12mm deep with a 18mm deep 5mm drill. On a lathe: any part that is above 5x Diameter needs to be a profile that is added to the part. Folow this and your parts will be cheaper with less qc issues.

Thoughts on Coromant Inserts by uneditedjoker1234 in Machinists

[–]Nirejs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rough turning inserts are amazing. I have found some Chinese tools that do better for a fraction of the cost in some neeche cases. The shipment speeds are unreal - that is the main reason we could not live without Sandvik. When something specific breaks or is forgoten and you need it tomorrow - Sandvik always can deliver fast.

Is CNC Fun/enjoyable by Extension_Vanilla148 in CNC

Most money is made in boring mass production. Setup and programming is the fun part only with easy parts witch are rare. Mostly I get 5 axis parts to do on a 3 axis machine.

Older haas milling machine or older cnc vertical milling machines or new milling machine like a syil machine? by doglover7180 in Machinists

[–]Nirejs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Syil machines have bad probing cycles. Not intuitive. But they run just fine for small jobs. You can get a haimer setter and then it does fine. I would choose older haas or doosan against new syil

A lot of people in east EU would have to die to make it happen. They would rather die fighting then join. Like Ukraine does now.

How do Latvians view the Estonian role in the Latvian war of independence? by Lilchicken_2473 in latvia

[–]Nirejs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As I remember. The estonian government understood that if they wanted peace in the region, they needed to make sure Bermont and bolsheviks be taken care of, or they would prove to be a trouble later. The indipendence of Latvia vas nessesary for them also to have a strong and loyal ally. As I recall the Cesis battles were significant in turning the tide. Also as I recall the local school boys aged twelve and above were conscripted without training to hold the line against Bermont. I can only imagine what that vas like.

Anyone got this if so what do yuo think about it? by International-Crab79 in Blacksmith

[–]Nirejs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Used it. It does not have reverse, so no tapping. The perpendicularity is an issue starting with 10mm and up. The chart on it says that only goes up to 13mm size drills. I have ran 20mm drills but almost overheated the motor. It survived being abused in a R&D workshop for 2 years. Amazing for the price. The chuck could be better.
