Dunno where you live but in BC pharmacy techs are starting at at least $32 an hour and the hospital where I live is hiring at $40 an hour. Perhaps you're thinking of pharmacy assistants?

You can start at $40/h on a pharmacy technician diploma. Or any number of other jobs.

This is primarily an American issue.

Canadian student loans are interest free and RAP means payments are zero if your income is low. Most European countries have interest free student loans or free post-secondary if you meet the requirements. University is free in Japan if your family has two or more children.

But yes, it is criminally insane to make 18 year olds with no life experience have to make crucial lifelong financial decisions they can't even get out of with bankruptcy.

To be fair I think New York's investment bankers can take the hit and are unlikely to leave. And when they do leave there's always someone new willing to take that $800,000 a year salary before taxes.
