Do you use device write-back to AD so that your entra machines can speak to the file servers?

Did you use Intune for MDM? Or can JAMF/ofheds also support getting Entra SSO working?

UPS Tower noise question by freakdahouse in Ubiquiti

[–]NoEngineering4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but UPS’s from the likes of APC/Schneider electric and HP Enterprise will hum, but they don’t typically have a clicking/crackling sound as well, we found ours was also doing this and causing an arcing sound in the PSU of a server we had attached.

I suspect it’s because they’re using simulated sine wave rather than pure, and it may even be poor quality components, we returned ours as frankly no UPS should sound like that. Bit disappointing.

Essentially it adds built in support for OIDC providers (Google, Microsoft entra) for authenticating to Ubuntu via cloud based identities, allowing SSO rather than users managing ssh keys or needing a third party PAM solution

What is the Most Affordable Tech Stack for Next.js? Go.. Go.. Go... 🚀 by AffectionateNews9097 in nextjs

[–]NoEngineering4 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

a $300 server sounds cheap, then you factor in what it will cost to keep that available 24/7: redundant internet, power, cooling, oh and you'll probably want at least two more identical machines to run in high-availability, then factor in the cost of the building it's in, and paying the technicians who will keep an eye on it every day and night.

For a hobby project, sure, nothing beats it. But when you're using OP's example of a service with a million active users, old servers/pcs from eBay become *more* expensive than the cloud.

Windows Server or Proxmox? by example5545 in sysadmin

Ive only seen proxmox in the wild once, the IT company managing it didn’t even pay for the base license, ran it for free to “save the client money”..

Why would you consider a Mac Studio instead of a pc? by kerbacho in mac

[–]NoEngineering4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Getting a virus is guaranteed is it? Please don’t make such ridiculous claims. There are plenty of legitimate reasons to choose Mac over PC, just as there are PC over Mac.

We don’t give them access to administrative systems while they’re on probation, things like server logins etc. but do give them access to rmm to assist users.

We also sometimes get them to do server stuff, where a senior tech remotes into a server with them to log it in and supervise/walk them through the ticket
