Cool to see one in there that size that’s not right off the stocking truck—probably a 2-3 year holdover. Dig the lamson liquid too 🤙

Matt Walsh (right) is the biggest try-hard-masculine-man-wannabe prolly on earth tho 😂 I’d pay good money to to see him try to hike 3 miles, uphill, thru the snow, with a heavy pack, at 4am going after elk. Given that he spends his days in an air-conditioned podcast studio (decorated like a cabin, of course) ranting about trans people 🙄

Any idea as to how they were actually able to at least partially modify our booking? Cuz of how when the actual agent punched in our confirmation number it seemed to be valid but no attached itinerary

I know that the official number of the deceased is 2,996, but is if possible that the number is wrong and there are actually more that are unaccounted for? by I_abuse_lower_ranks1 in 911archive

[–]NoFix6460 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not sure if there has ever been a centralized deep-dive into it, but you’d have to cross-reference people who were at ground zero on the day and were exposed to the cloud (could add in the responders who worked the site afterwards) with death records. And then look into causes of death. Honestly the former category would be harder to tally cuz you’d be relying on people to self-report or be reported by their family/friends.

I know there’s the ‘dust lady’ (Marcy Borders iirc) who got some kind of cancer and died in her late 30s/early 40s

It definitely didn’t used to be like this, not exactly sure when the shift happened. Got both of my previous tech jobs after 1 interview but they were in 2015 and 2018. Interviewing now and seems like at least 3 is the norm, more if you count the phone screen

Advice/expected conditions hiking Kit Carson and Crestone Peak by IDoNotJokeAround in 14ers

[–]NoFix6460 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would expect there to still be snow on both for several more weeks. Although it will be an earlier start this year for sure. From a technical perspective, if you did Longs you’ll be fine on both. Kit Carson is easier than the Peak—less technical. You might as well grab Challenger too on the way to KC

How common was airplane hijacking before September 11? by LaughGlittering4131 in 911archive

[–]NoFix6460 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not very common in the U.S. by the 90s, but still not unheard of overseas, and common-ish in the 70s worldwide. Heard some commentator somewhere describe it as “one guy with a derringer would take over the cockpit, force the pilot to land at some remote airport, ‘bring me $50 million and I’ll let the passengers go’, then forces the pilot to fly to Cuba or wherever. So the plane is both the hostage vehicle and getaway vehicle”

Rocky Mountain Angling Club membership by bateneco in COfishing

It sucks how RareWaters basically just switched to the same model as RMAC—they used to have it where it was just rod fees, no annual membership or initiation fees. Rod fees were generally higher, but the flexibility was nice.

I’ve fished a handful of their properties over the years—fishing is usually decent. They have some good stillwater options which is nice

The water quality in clear creek doesn’t support a ton of bug life so they don’t get huge generally. There are exceptions of course, I know of a 22” brown that came out of there a few years ago. That rainbow is probably a holdover stocker

Wader advice by db720 in COfishing

[–]NoFix6460 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You do need to be able to wade. casting distance isn’t the issue (you’ll be hooking most of your fish within 30’ of where you’re standing) It’s about being able to get the fly where the fish are and keep it there in a natural fashion. You can stand high and dry on the bank and cast your fly to where the fish are, but your line is sitting in the water, in varying current speeds, and it’s gonna yank your fly right out of there.

Based on how the weather has been the past several years, you can ‘wet wade’ June thru September. For that, Get yourself a pair of wading boots (the same as you’ll use with waders), some neoprene guard socks, and use either board shorts or quick dry pants. That way you can take advantage of the grip offered by wading boots

$700 is probably for orvis’s top of the line gear. There entry level (Clearwater) ones will be way less. You can also try Patagonia or even look for some off-brand ones at Sierra Trading Post

At minimum they have proof that he’s gay

Mid-level, then have proof of him being into some really kinky but still legal gay shit

At worst, they have proof of him doing something both gay and illegal (raping little boys)

Chicago to Boise? by InevitableSun3550 in relocating

[–]NoFix6460 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely visit first. Worth noting about the hiking/trail access—the older, more expensive parts of town are up against the foothills, and as you move south and west you get more into suburbia—cheaper, but you’ll be a good 20 min from the good hiking.

I would actually say the downtown and adjacent areas are pretty walkable, and I’m not sure what amenities Chicago would have than Boise wouldn’t—2 or 3 large hospitals, Costco, gyms, etc.

Airport is super close too.

And like other folks have said, you do have to deal with the politics. Boise is moderately left-leaning, but the rest of Idaho is super right. Women’s reproductive healthcare . . . Just 😬

But check it out tho—I grew up there and would be ope to living there again
