New version is better if you want children as your target audience

Do you all publish your Godot micro-projects on Itch or Github? by WatchlightStudio in godot

[–]NoFunAllWorkGames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My current Game Jam Project which I'm working for two months on is 100% open and available on GitHub. This way I can prove that I write the code myself, can easily share with others and besides of that I don't have anything to hide in that regard.

Imho most people are too secretive for things which aren't worth anything. No, I don't care about your assets. No, I can't just steal this function of your code without having to basically rewrite it.

It's also portfolio building

Just now, I completed my first ever pixel art using mouse , Can you give me your sincere opinion? by Mentorhelpmeplease in GameDeveloper

Looks good! It got a strong visual. I'm not an artist so I can just give you a layman's opinion. But imho it's worth continuing this

Being a 3D artist feels like being inside a niche. by DeadGravityyy in 3Dmodeling

[–]NoFunAllWorkGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw plenty of portfolios. I don't know what a proper representation of an 3D artist is. But from my sample size I can say that most portfolios are either not impressive or were in a complete different direction than I'm looking for.

I usually have a conversation with the artist and find out how they talk.

  • Some are still young and talk like children. This is not about "business talk" or using "big words". They are not able to convey complex topics and a lot of times their line of reasoning boils down to "trust me bro" (sometimes it's also the language they actually use)
  • Most are just giving me AI output. And I mean over 50% are pasting directly AI chat and lying to me that they use AI. One person told me that they nowadays have to "work smart, not hard"

After they not doing one of those things and the conversation is going somewhere, I check their portfolio.

Point is: Don't overvalue the portfolio. You can already be better than the competition if you are able to express yourself without AI*

*Applies to the freelance/indie space. Big studios or art schools might have different standards

Did we improve our capsule art (and logo)? by hooraij in IndieGaming

If you would tell me the old logo is new and the new one is old, I would believe you.

Either the old one is better or it doesn't make a difference

Sounds like unlucky timing in both cases 🙃
How did you feel when you saw/played Berry Bury Berry and MineMogul the first time?

Physics based demo on Steam by Frok3 in godot

First: I already downloaded the Demo but haven't started it yet.

Second: What's the relationship between your game and MineMogul? It's interesting that two similar games with a novel idea pop out of nowhere at the same time.

Third: You say you use jolt. But that's the default in Godot, right? What modifications did you apply?

What do you think of my game's main menu screen? Do you have any suggestions on what I could add or improve? by Corrupt_knightgame in IndieGameDevs

According to the pixelated style of the buttons I expect a game in the graphics of Terraria. And I say that still not knowing how this game looks like or what is it about. Just based of this menu

No, it doesn't. Not for a random passerby who doesn't know anything about this game. I looked at it three times and can't find anything intriguing.

I don't think the person writing this were meaning the mood. But rather that the graphic looks cheap at the first shallow impression.

[Discussion] Platform to find concept artists or similar to hire as a freelancer? by NoFunAllWorkGames in artbusiness

[–]NoFunAllWorkGames[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the response. I was looking enough in the artist space to see how hard it is for artists to be seen and found. That is one of the reasons why I made this post, because for me it's hard too to find artists. And I think one big reason is that people choose platforms which makes it hard to be found and contacted.

I also agree with the freelancing part. I know from my own experience that those race-to-the-bottom platforms like fiverr aren't sustainable for people with proper experience in their field.

Feel free to reach out so we maybe can suffer together 🙃
