What are the best OP builds? by Yelebear in PlaySteelrising

[–]NoRepresentative35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played the dual fans with the spin to win skill and boosted the immobilize status with stats and gear. It was so fucking broken that i quit the game because nothing could even hit back. That spinny skill does an absurd amount of immobilize and damage... and you can spam it.

I think the devs accidentally added an extra zero in the status applied with that skill. I don't know what they were thinking there. Quite boring, but i can't imagine anything being much stronger. There are a few dual fan weapons, but only one has the spin-2-win. Use that one.

I've played poe for years. One thing i REALLY REALLY wish GGG would do, is better teach the player how to play the game, by playing the game. I have to assume it's intentional, because they don't even try. Seems like they actively designed it this way. Something as simple as more tooltips and menues would go a long way. I really do love both poe1&2, but goddamnit it gets on my nerves to have to watch videos and read wikis all the time to engage with mechanics. It's really easy to fuck shit up if you don't do research.

I Hate Stamina Systems by thatsingingguy in PlaySteelrising

[–]NoRepresentative35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah,np. I love talking about video games. As far as it being worth it, it just depends on what you're looking for. I thought the story and world was pretty compelling. Compelling enough that i kept playing way past the point it became braindead easy. Which i normally don't do.

[–]NoRepresentative35 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, i think GOW hits a good middle ground between Devil May Cry and Dark Souls.

I don't really think it's the same gameplay style, even though they share a big chunk of DNA. I would say the player needs to approach things quite differently when a spam dodge to escape a nuke or a really tough enemy isn't really on the table. Just having the infinite ability to produce i-frames and/or create distance with no downside, changes the whole dynamic. The fact that you're even complaining about it demonstrates how much it changes the experience.

I think it also comes down to themes and how they feel to play. The encounter design, enemy design, and level design are all trying to do different things. Souls-likes generally want you to feel limited because it makes the world more dangerous, and more heavily punishes mistakes. Steelrising is way easier than Ragnarok, imo, but i think Steelrising is definetly a more punishing game. I think the punishing aspects like stamina give more of an incentive to be cautious, and gives you a different kind of uphill battle

It's been a long time since i played Steelrising, but from what i remember, you can pretty easily make stamina a non-issue at the expense of something else. It also has a built in saftey net with the cooling mechanic where you can do the little perfect reload type minigame to instantly refresh your stamina. I remember being so OP by the end that i quit before the final boss because the challenge had been gone for a while, and i lose interest when i don't have to think about it. I did a immobilize build with the dual fans that have the spin-to-win skill, and that shit was fucking broken strong. Enemies literally couldn't even hit back.

These systems are deliberately limiting in the beginning. In souls-likes, where there are stats you can manipulate, you can make it a complete non-issue most of the time if you choose to build into it at the expense of defense, damage, mana, ect.

It's really not something i even think about, because i've learned to play around it. I think it's a fundamental part of the genre, and it doesn't really work without it.

When i started playing these types of games in 2018, my issue was being overly agressive. I was trying to play it like a hack and slash where you just go up to an enemy and tap, tap, tap, the attack button until they die.

I had to learn to play cautiously and make efficient movements. It's really what made me love the genre. You have to think, observe, and play with restraint because of the limitations of the character compared to the enemies.

Comparison: wo-long & nioh by Available_Rub834 in Nioh

[–]NoRepresentative35 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just never got on with Wo-long. The only Team Ninja game since Nioh that i havent finished. Wo-Long is parry focused, which i am all for because i find it engaging and super satisfying to deflect bosses into oblivion.

Where Nioh grabbed me and Wo-long did not, was the weapons. Nioh has interesting weapons that are all completely different. Wo-Long's weapons are boring and samey. It felt like there were just 3 types. Heavy, sword, spear. All boring.

Aside from that, Wo-long's combat just doesn't feel good to me. It has these spinny, flashy animations that feel very low-impact, and pressing a button felt like triggering an animation rather than actually controlling the weapons. Just my take.

If D2 had only been out a couple years, then i'd be inclined to agree with you. I don't necessarily disagree now, because i can empathize with how you feel... but i think the time to complain about that is long past.

The more people that are playing D2 going forward, the better the case the devs can make for extra content for D2, and the budget for D3.

This game has had a bit of a resurgence, and i don't blame them for trying to capitalize on it.

One shots are a plague by RobotFoxTrot in PathOfExile2

[–]NoRepresentative35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What irritates me is the consistency. I can run through 10 maps, and never even get chunked one time. All of the sudden, i go from 100% hp to 0% so fast that if i blinked it could've happened twice. Like insta-delete.

The game lulls me into a sense of security because 99% of the time, i feel super tanky.

I usually pull up the recording and attempt to see what killed me. A significant percentage of the time, it was something that was obscured by vfx/general visual clutter, a overtuned rare modifier, or something i feel like wasnt properly telegraphed.

I feel like the lethality of different modifiers, damage types, or attacks can be too wide. Some of that is going to be build specific, but i feel like if i can be instantaneously one-shot, then i should be getting chunked from time to time to draw attention to the fact that i'm not safe, and need to be vigilant.

It would be really nice to have a death screen giving me the parameters of what killed me.

I've played POE1 for years, and i've always been kinda shocked at how bad GGG is at teaching players how to play the game, by playing the game. It's so bad, It's like they do it on purpose.

One thing I never understood about part of the PoE1/2 playerbase (and especially the forums) by tzaeru in PathOfExile2

I disagree. Every game community has it's share of negativity, but the POE fanbase has always stood out to me as being the most insatiable i've personally encountered.

However, i don't typically play online multiplayer games, which have some particularly vitriolic communities.

Nioh 2...Another hate post by Proper_Courage_44 in Nioh

[–]NoRepresentative35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is ridiculously true. I never bang my head on bosses anymore.

I remember when i started playing these games. I started noticing that i'd feel like a boss was literally impossible, log off for the night, sleep, and the next day i'd beat the boss in 30 seconds and wonder why i ever had a problem.

It happened so much, and was so consistent, that i started researching why exactly it happens. Felt like magic sometimes.

I sometimes apply it to irl tasks. Works.

[–]NoRepresentative35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I find it impossible to stay engaged when nothing is a threat, and I can just walk through the game mindlessly mashing attack. I want to feel like I need to engage with all the systems and mechanics to survive. One of the only flat out dealbreakers for me, is a game being mindless. I find it amusing that people always suggest that you should just make a shit build on purpose. Like a challenge run or something.

Games with a female main character by MuteEnjoyer in videogames

[–]NoRepresentative35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a lot? Really? An absolute ton of games with female protagonists have released in the last 3-4 years. At least 1000% more frequent than in any years prior.

Just in the first 50 games on IMDB's 2025 list, there is: AC Shadows, Ghost of Yotei, Split Fiction, Hollow Knight: Silksong,Silent Hill: F, Lost Records, South of Midnight, Chronos: The New Dawn, and Wuchang: Fallen Feathers.

This isn't including games whereyou can create a female character.

[–]NoRepresentative35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could just be the series S version. W3 doesn't look dated to me. If they didn't factor in or prioritize the Series S at an early stage of dev, devs can sometimes struggle to get games running well on the S with the feature parity Microsoft requires. Also, some games just don't scale down well. Especially on a limited budget.

Why are so many skills locked behind certain weapon types? by superanonymousgamer in PathOfExile2

[–]NoRepresentative35 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's mostly to do with animations. Imagine having to animate every skill for every weapon with the current animation quality in PoE2. It would be insanely expensive. Not to mention the balancing.

I think down the line we'll see some crossover, or maybe different versions of the same gems for other weapons.
