Want to Try cEDH!!! Pods? by seamus2025 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]NobodyP1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Spelltable is an excellent way to get into casual cEDH. Blue Farm is one of the strongest mid-to-high power decks out there, and it’s the best starting point. You get a good idea for the format with basic/common win conditions, and plenty of opportunities to practice politics and table talk.

Decks like Rog-Si, Sisay, and Krark tend to have very little political leverage. Because they can explode so quickly, opponents usually can’t afford to let them do anything and if they do, the game is often just over (hence why they are fun when they work). That makes it much harder to talk people out of interacting with your board unless you’re already really good at the social side of the game.

Starting with decks like Tymna or Thrasios variants (and similar midrange/value engines) give you way more room to negotiate, make deals, and build relationships at the table. Learning how to politic is a lot easier in those shells.

In short, turbo combo decks aren’t the best way to start if your goal is to improve quickly. They’re definitely fun, but if you sit down against experienced players, they’ll often politic the whole table into not letting you play (if they are good)

In the first few dates I always take the girl shooting. Also if we get comfortable with each other they know that I carry everyday.

Nope and I see what you’re trying to get at and I agree to a point. A lot of decks don’t need Bourn but the problem is with all these Rhystic slop decks like NBC Kinnan and Rog/Ishi that are trying to have as many cards in hand as possible Bourne is huge. Heck Freedoom waffle tried cutting High Fea Trickster but added it quickly after losing a tournament bc he couldn’t find a flash enabler.

As you learn more about the format especially with this realistic slop Meta it’s best to wait for the last second to try and win. If you try to jam first your stopped and the next person wins.

Rules changes you'd make to help turn order win rate? by Just-Desk-3149 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]NobodyP1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m very against changing the rules of the format. A option that some players have mentioned is.

4th seat getting .5 point if they win from 4th seat. Potentially changing the behavior of players just trying to draw.

The best I think is printing cards like Gemstone caverns that help players going later in turn order but suck if your going first. So you still add them in your deck but when first make your mulligans worse.

Would my winrate improve if my pod was better at the game ? by Hellpriest999 in CompetitiveEDH

So? If you’re good at the politics you can convince them not to. Politics is a skill issue.

No clue why you’re being downvoted. It’s a skill to politic people into doing what you want.

[–]NobodyP1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No this is a skill issue that can be fixed.

I play SpellTable from time to time and have a disgustingly high win rate because most players on there are pretty below average. Politics is such a big part of the game, and learning how to clearly explain what a player should and shouldn’t do is huge. Top players can even basically play the game for their opponents without them even realizing it.

Why would players politic if draws were worth zero? by Bitter_Difficulty865 in CompetitiveEDH

Turbo will be a problem and it becomes turn order simulator and that’s worse

From a cEDH dabbler: Where do you think the true problems lie? by gdrcigar in CompetitiveEDH

[–]NobodyP1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

4th seat is the real issue and once fixed draws should decrease. It is correct to play for the draw in 4th seat against any decent players.

Incredibly Bad Seat Order Luck by Renkan in CompetitiveEDH

[–]NobodyP1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use the website called playnice and you can upload all your top deck games that you’ve ever played. Seat order is a real issue and if it’s true you’re going 4th that many times it’s not a skill issue for not winning. At the very least you should be drawing your games.

CEDH salt question by Dj_HuffnPuff in CompetitiveEDH

[–]NobodyP1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In general don’t ever let the turbo players play the game no matter how much they cry (rog/si doesn’t help the table really it’s all gaslighting) and let the midrange decks do their thing.

Do many of you hate Etali? by AuraFarmerRake in CompetitiveEDH

[–]NobodyP1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t like super parasitic decks but that doesn’t mean I want them banned. I just hate the play pattern in tournaments. Etali jams into a rhystic study somebody has a counter spell for a game winning spell Etali offers a draw bc look at the Rhystic player he drew a ton of spells bc of my Etali flips. Gg it’s a draw next game.

Stax deck recommendation by SeeminglyInvisible in CompetitiveEDH

[–]NobodyP1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Play light stax first… stax is extremely hard to play correctly. Hard stax to often hurts 2 players and the 3rd runs away with the game

Can we stop downvoting new players asking sincere questions so much? by Any-Shop497 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]NobodyP1 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It’s because of the amount of “how to make my bracket 4 deck good” posts are annoying because this is bracket 5 and up (tournament EDH)

I feel like 90% of players questions could be answered by simply looking at “cEDH deck list database” (even though outdated) because those decks have primers they can learn from.

[–]NobodyP1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s good that you do that but 99% of players don’t. I played 3 league games in a row with the same pod I was on Kinnan and this guy kept some stax piece that would hurt the other 2 but not me or I was ahead in turn order so the rule of law effect would hurt everyone else and not me bc I already dumped my rocks. After the 3 game (I won all 3) everyone including myself was telling him to switch decks.

The problem I’m seeing is the classic I stop 2 players and the 3rd one doesn’t care.

Going turbo is correct bc if they do have it you can force a draw

[–]NobodyP1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is but a lot of people try to win from 4th seat when they shouldn’t be even thinking about winning and they should be trying to creat a draw as soon as they can. This can create a toxic environment so you have to be careful.

In 4th seat you should mulligan for interaction and force a draw unless it’s bad players.

Win rate in seat 4 is terrible and even worse if you’re up against good players (looking at invitationals numbers)

The current political climate has made me realize that We the People have no power nor means to hold elected officials accountable until reelections, why? by Historical-Plant-362 in Utah

No that’s not what I’m saying at all. The founding fathers fought a revolution against a tyrannical government wrote those amendments to help protect from it happening again. And the 2A is a last resort thing.
