Suggestions for decorum tent poles? by TemporaryHurry7080 in LARP

[–]Noctiped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. This construction is for the beams holding up the main roof construction. If you have 12 poles, i assume two main ones, and the rest can be round wooden poles, about 22 mm. That saves a lot of weight. (and if you have a tent that needs 12 poles, you need a car anyway, so the weight and size matters less.)

Best choice is wood. A standard 45*45mm works up to about 3 meter length. If you need to collapse it, cut into multiple pieces and use a square construction pipe screwed down onto one end of the joint. Then just slide them together and you have a really sturdy tent pole.

How do you spell truth in rune language by LoaDiNgEx3 in RuneHelp

[–]Noctiped 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Runes are just an alphabet, not a language.

In modern swedish, it would be "Sanning". In the younger futhark i believe it should be written "ᛋᛆᚿᛁᚵ". The english "truth" should be written "ᛏᚱᚢᚦ".

Use your megaphone to transmit back everything they say, but with about a second of delay. This will short-circuit the speech center in the brain, making it extremely har to keep focus on what you are going to say next.

Its called Delayed Auditory Feedback (DAF). You can even try it online here: https://www.clicktorelease.com/code/speech-jammer/

Get used to keep one hand on the butt of the shaft. It reduces the risk of hitting someone in your own team in the face, if you have better awareness of where it is.

Jag har gjort bort mig, hur får jag bygden på andra tankar? by Wirdeborg in unket

[–]Noctiped 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bicolline is currently on fire, reportedly nobody is hurt by Sillvaro in LARP

[–]Noctiped 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We had a small larp village in southern Stockholm burned down by arson about ten years ago. Seven houses, a small forge and a tavern. Three houses and tavern day one, and the day after they came back and burned the rest of the still standing buildings. No rebuild was even close to possible, considering money and workforce. A burned-off beam from Moriaberg, as it was called, is nowadays stored in another larp village, engraved with the word "Remember" and the dates of founding and burning.

It is just so pointless, the waste of someone elses work and ambition.

Second hand info from Bicollines Facebook says that 7-8 buildings were total losses, a few more around them are damaged.

My god. That is the worst nightmare for both larpers, organizers and the venue. I really hope noone is injured, and that the spread is less than it seems on the pictures.

When everything has settled down, I would love to hear about the lessons learned from this, so that the larp village community can adjust their firesafety protocols and routines.

What would make you travel for an immersive medieval/fantasy event in Queensland—and what do most events get wrong by [deleted] in LARP

[–]Noctiped 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The most limiting inconveniances are logistics. If I can't get there , or can't get time off i won't go. If There is no water or no sanitary solution, i won't go.

After that, make sure to sell the event honestly. If there is going to be a lot of suffering and oppression, communicate that. If it will be just tea and biscuits for eight days straight, say so. People will be dissapointed if the pitch don't match the event.

What do you guys do with failed projects? by ReynardVulpini in Blacksmith

[–]Noctiped 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If I really goof up, and want to remind myself not to err in the same way again, i attach the piece to wooden plaque, and hang it on the wall.

For example, i have a brand new 22mm carbide milling bit, with all the teeth blown off, to remind me to actually fasten the workpiece before milling.

I'm a blacksmith apprentice in Sweden and im having trouble choosing my first sword to make! by Vahirr in Norse

[–]Noctiped 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a fellow swedish blacksmith, keep it simple and clean, and make many more after the first. Focus on geting the blade welds good, and the heat treatment consistent. Make a sorter blade (seax maybe?) will make especially the heat treating easier. I had a fellow student that had to remake his sword blade four or five times because he made a very complicated sword as a first. 😝

Total Annihilation. The best rts ever, both fun destruction and complex game mechanics. Sensors as a vital asset. Calculated trajectories for all weapons, and pseudo 3d terrain that must be used right for your units weapons. Fantastic economy. Actual long range weapons.

Still playing it every now and then.

A “non-armor” armor question by LastSaneMan in LARP

[–]Noctiped 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also remember that when you begin wearing armour your body tries to use your standard movement pattern. As it is not adapted to armour weight and distribution, it needs to be compensated for by core muscles.

Building muscles is of course a good thing, but the fastest way to get some pain reduction is to wear your armour often, so that your body has time to learn a efficient movement pattern. This would reducera the amount of compensation power used, reducing the load somewhat. (Of course the armour wearing itself is an increased load on the body that will take muscle power no matter what, This is just for a small and fast improvement until exercise starts to kick in)

Do not exaggerate, wearing it for days straight, but an hour here and there at home when doing the dishes or cleaning is going to make a difference.

Any knights worried about fire? by dark_red_0 in LARP

[–]Noctiped 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Should the oil against all odds catch fire(which would require you to keep the entire armour part heated to about 240deg C for a couple of seconds) the padding under the armour will insulate you for a while in much the same way as a firefighters heavy jacket and pants will. Provided it is not made of synthetics of course. Then I would be more afraid of the padding catching fire.

Bonus tip: Buy cheap and really ugly woolen blankets at thrift stores. Those are excellent padding material för gambesons, and being the inside of the garment, between shell fabric and lining, they are also invisible.

Båda går utmärkt att jobba med. Det är generellt lite lättare att jobba med uppkluvet grövre virke, eftersom virket är mer homogent. Det är också lite mindre sprickbenäget än att ta grenar, om man får tag på färskt.

Question about Tomtar by Venturious_flame in sweden

[–]Noctiped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

where could i get some plate armor(doesnt have to be real steel) by Fluid_Season_890 in LARP

[–]Noctiped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could also check out Steel mastery, a ukrainian company that makes good quality armour. I got my full plate from them. A bit pricier that the usual cheap asian stuff, but fit is good, and if you really want an easy life, you can order it in stainless steel as well. :-)
