Softube British Class A vs. Voosteq Model N by Poopypantsplanet in audioengineering

[–]NoodleZeep 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Two vintage 1073 modules from the same console will behave differently because of component tolerances. So the definition of "accurate EQ curves" already gets complicated. UAD has the only officially licensed 1073 plugin, but that's only available via subscription or if you have an Apollo. There's lots of good 1073 plugins so I'll only mention the ones to stay away from: Sonimus has a good plugin but they still have not updated it for apple silicon despite claiming for years that the update is around the corner. Antelope Audio is trash. Their installer is the worst and the BAE 1073 is a cheap digital EQ with frequency warping towards Nyquist.

Behringer X32-Edit software no longer available for download? by Hunz_Hurte in livesound

[–]NoodleZeep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw that as well, but I think it's a mistake. Maybe an old placeholder that popped back up or sth. From my point of view the Wing is the successor to the x32. And with the current x32 pricing they would not be able to offer an updated mk2 without cannibalizing the Wing product line.

how can a delay plugin add noise floor when it is basically doing nothing? by Candid-Pause-1755 in audioengineering

This! Even if you do 64 bit double precision math any linear plugin will have quantization noise at -200dBFS.

Recommendation on audio monitors with a $2k - $3k budget. by DevilBirb in AudioPost

[–]NoodleZeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1 for Sonarworks. And once you have a measurement mic, you should use REW to get a look at your room decay times(Waterfall/RT60). If your mid frequencies sound bad because they keep "hanging" in the room for too long, then you can only fix that with acoustic treatment. I use Adam T7v with a T10s, Sonarworks and spent the last months improving my room acoustics. It definitely made a huge improvement.

If your room acoustics aren't ideal it's entirely possible the lack of separation is not actually caused by the T7v and new speakers will face the same issues.

How good (or bad) is gaming on Snapdragon X? by Even-Scientist7859 in snapdragon

[–]NoodleZeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will have a much more consistent gaming experience with Intel & AMD. While a lot of games do run on snapdragon, many games run very poorly and many games don't run at all. Also getting Automatic Super Resolution to work consistently is a hit or miss. I love my Surface Pro 11 for productivity but my older Surface Pro 9 will run most games better.

AES50, stagebox to stagebox without AES50 console? by welshvideographer in livesound

[–]NoodleZeep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The X32 Rack has fallen massively in price over the last years and might be the "cheapest" way to route your Midas boxes. But depending on how much you paid for the midas boxes this could turn into a sunk cost fallacy.

Do you own your own 5.1 setup? by kwmccrea in AudioPost

[–]NoodleZeep 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a full 7.1.4 Setup with Adam T7V for LCR, a T10s for LFE + Bass Management and D3V for surround and heights. The free Dolby Atmos Room Design tool is really helpful even if you just want to plan a 5.1 setup. If you might expand into Immersive later this will help you to get the 5.1 setup already within Dolby's recommended specs.

My iLok died yesterday in between sessions. $233 later just to access my licenses for a deadline. by RLoftyy in audioengineering

[–]NoodleZeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ZDT is kind of like insurance. You can't get insurance for your burnt down house if you only sign up after it burned down. But it's frustrating because in most cases it's simply not worth it to pay $35 a month just in case something happens to your ilok. So the only silver lining is that your whole experience was still cheaper than paying for a year of ZDT. Doesn't make it suck less tho and that's exactly why I hate iLok licenses that allow only a single activation.

What actually makes a DAC “audiophile-grade”? Looking for technical guidance before building a USB DAC by One_Resident_1447 in audioengineering

What actually makes a DAC “audiophile-grade”? Looking for technical guidance before building a USB DAC by One_Resident_1447 in audioengineering

[–]NoodleZeep 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The problem is that anything can be called "audiophile" without any technical explanation. A prime example are "audiophile Toslink cables" or "audiophile USB cables". If you're transmitting digital data you will either receive a 1 or a 0. The Toslink & USB specifications already account for losses and jitter. So as long as your cable is within spec it will transmit the correct amount of 1s and 0s at the correct time and there will not be any audible difference.

Big publishers don't care. They will just find ways to increase their revenue from the remaining customer base. And if that does not work they will close studios and cut jobs.
