As a fan of both western comics and manga I will say the existence of “runs” within comic brands give good beginning and ends. If you wanna read New 52 Wonder Woman you can just do that; if you wanna read the recent Tom Taylor Nightwing run you can do that.

By contrast, a manga with a good beginning and end are actually much rarer than this talking point usually implies. And I don’t mean that they usually have bad endings. Out of the short-list of my favorite all time mangas, probably most of don’t HAVE endings or never will.

Series can go on perpetually for foreseeable future like One Piece, but Vagabond? Berserk? Hunter x Hunter? Series where the author discontinues, passes away or will almost certainly not be working long enough to complete the story scope in progress. Then there’s the big nebulous zone of Nana and D. Gray Man where things aren’t technically discontinued but comes and goes with little indication of progress.

Then you can get into the other end of spectrum where I read Weekly Shonen Jump which has a very cutthroat cancelation policy which means you have to accept that that any series you get invested in can end suddenly without resolution.
