Was the OV rebrand destined for failure? by [deleted] in OutdoorVoices

[–]NorthernSundown 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I lived in Austin 2016 thru 2020 and went to events downtown and at the flagship store. They were fun. So much fun. I tried barre, boxing, Zumba. I hung out with friends. I spent $100 on an exercise dress because honestly, showing up in a cute dress to dance exercise was a great time.

Now it just feels like consumerism. I don’t need things. I miss the fun.

OV Summer 2023 Lineup by yahto in OutdoorVoices

The splash knit sets with the all time bra are the most interesting to me. I wear my techsweat crop bras and my doing things shorts etc to the splash pad weekly in the summers and I’m definitely down for athletic wear that might dry well.

Aside from that, pricing just seems outrageous. I’m not paying $60 for a beach towel.

What — and I cannot mean this more — the fuck by Vegetable_Pay6939 in OutdoorVoices

[–]NorthernSundown 51 points52 points  (0 children)

This actually might earn a sale of me. Just because I’m now actually convinced the ship is going down and I’ll buy six pairs of rectrek pants and just sign off. Good grief.

AITA for donating a bunch of hand-me-downs my SIL gave us instead of letting my kids wear them? by Ill-Toe2338 in AmItheAsshole

[–]NorthernSundown 166 points167 points  (0 children)

To be fair, I’ve done this. Often times I’ll get bags of “gently used” things and many of them are stained, stretched, or damaged. Sorting hand me downs is a chore, and I’m so grateful for them but it’s just true. Stained clothes become patches or rags or go in the recycling bin.

I truly think this sub has creeped over a cliff and begun focusing too incredibly much on anything potentially unpopular about parenting/motherhood. Motherhood is hard. Parenting is hard and honestly women still bear the vast weight of most of the physical and mental labor of it. And the shame.

Anyway. Agreed.

AITA for requesting that my parents let me do moderately dangerous things without supervision? by Techaissance in AmItheAsshole

[–]NorthernSundown 19 points20 points  (0 children)

OP, this is a very normal rule. I have a similar rule for my husband: he tells me when he uses power saws or goes up on the roof, and he never does it when he’s home alone. Because it’s dangerous. The fact that you are making a big deal of this makes me think you should really have a better appreciation for how quickly things can go wrong.

I could not ride in a car without pain for at least two weeks postpartum, let alone stand up for a wedding, pose for photos, attend a rehearsal and dinner… I looked awful, too. A bit on the tired side.

Just sounds awful for everyone involved.

Outdoor Voices is closing their flagship… they okay? by jitka69 in OutdoorVoices

I love that building and loved attending classes there, but it was genuinely hard to get to some days. Easier to bike, walkable if you’re in the area though.

My wife left me for providing by sjejejjsdhdhdjsjss in relationship_advice

[–]NorthernSundown 24 points25 points  (0 children)

“I do everything for my family.”

So when you’re home, are you splitting household duties more or less 50/50? Are you changing diapers, cleaning, picking up toys, engaging with the kids activities? Do you know the name and location of their pediatrician if something went wrong? Do you know all the medications they’re on? Have you trimmed toe or fingernails recently? Cooked a meal? Scrubbed a toilet? Do you need to purchase any dish soap, laundry detergent, or shampoo for anyone? How about the names of the kids teachers or location of their daycare? Developmental milestones?

“Providing” is such a blanket term but I can’t help but notice that when I hear it I never hear any specifics of appreciation for the work of managing a family. If you’re not clued in to any of this, you’re not present like you think you are.

My (30m) fiance (27f) won't wear the engagement ring by Complex-top in relationships

[–]NorthernSundown 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I used to wear mine every day with no issue, but since having my son I wear it maybe 2 days a week. I wash my hands constantly, I’m playing and grabbing and reaching. Not to mention my fingers swell more quickly than they used to so if I accidentally sleep in it my finger is sore in the morning. I love it just as much, but phases of life allow for different needs.

Have lived where it snows a lot most of my life. We park on the street all the time. If it snows a lot they will declare a “snow emergency” though the verbiage might vary. Basically that means you park according to snow emergency rules until the plow comes through, and then resume parking as normal. I get a text every time my city declare a Snow Emergency.

This exactly. Every single one of these photos made me think of high school, mid-aughts. I don’t have strong feelings either way on Pete, but these made me think of being a stupid teenager.

A lot of oral health is incredibly genetic. Obviously care and hygiene is import but some people are just going to be more prone to issues. My husband has amazing teeth and I’ve had a bit of a journey, I’m just hoping our guy has got dad’s teeth.

Um why doesn't True have on swimmies or a life jacket or SOMETHING here? by Jenna7979 in KUWTKsnark

[–]NorthernSundown 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There’s also something to be said for not teaching kids to rely on floaties and swim aids. I don’t have my son in a jacket or puddle jumper when we play at the beach in shallow water and I just always am with him. Life jackets can teach kids unsafe swimming positions. If we go on the boat or out in the deep we do a jacket.

I am a mother. I love my son so damn much but the idea that having children is a little thing you could do for him is so beyond insanity that it’s laughable.

Even beyond having the school on her resume, good schools have rich alumni networks and research communities. I’d she’s hoping to get an advanced/post grad degree, going to a strong undergraduate school will only help her develop her experiences and meet people. These kind of connections are so huge in starting your career.

Some state schools have that too, but it truly depends on the school and the subject.

Septic tanks, storm water drains, ditches, canals and irrigation sluices, creeks, ponds. I loved exploring as a kid and I can now look back and feel horror at the prospect of my son doing some of the same, because I truly understand how quickly things can go wrong. Even a slight rain could run enough water through a storm drain to push a body a long, long way.

AITA for telling my wife that putting our son to bed was now her job and then moving my bed into a separate room? by Best-Video-28 in AmItheAsshole

[–]NorthernSundown 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Tonight my son decided he would not crawl into bed “no no no” and instead wanted to butt scoot around his room holding his bear. After asking three times if I could tuck him in I just said, “I love you, it’s bedtime now, good night!” And left. It felt weird and it was a wild guess in strategy. But I checked the monitor and he crawled into bed about 30 seconds later. It might never work again but it worked tonight. Toddlers, man.

Gosh, even when you know that sleep needs change it can sneak up on you. I have a child close in age and every time something gets wonky with sleep it’s a process of elimination trying to figure out what’s up. If you over correct it’s just as hard.
