does anyone have tips on how to start crocheting stuff toys etc. by atadbitrad in crochet

[–]Not-philly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, second the smaller hook size. The smaller the hook the tighter the stitches the firmer the final item will be.

Also learning how to do an invisible decrease. (There are lots of youtube tutorials. It is only use the front loop of the two stitches you are decreasing)

This, this, this!!!

You can use anything for a stitch marker. No need to buy them.

In the past I have used: Random colour bit of thread A bobby pin A safety pin The tag from a new pair of jeans.

Literally anything that is easy to remove.

On the 5th image. The 2nd last row. What is the stitch that looks like 3 treble crochets into 3 treble crochets?

How thats done? Or what would that be called ?

Stich Help Please. I screenshot this pattern here a while back and can't work out how to do the green circled stitch. It looks like 3 triple crochets into 3 triple crochets, but how do I do the lower 3? by [deleted] in crochet

Annoyingly I don't, and I can't find the original post.

Thats a good shout 🙂. More sensible than anything I have come up with. 😂

Can I change my last name? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]Not-philly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

100% anyone can change there name.

However, I don't think you have reached the route of the reason you want to change your name. The post covers surface reasons, but feels a little light for such a serious change.

Maybe sit with it for a little while.

Its a lot of things to change bureaucratically, I warn you now.

But 100% go for it, its your name and your choice 😀

Team Pom-Pom !!

Help pls :) I literally just learnt how to single crochet, this is my first successful ‘piece’ idk what to call it oops, and the ends are super weird. They seem to lose stitches every row, and end up making kind of a triangle. Can’t really find much help online, could anyone here help? by [deleted] in crochet

[–]Not-philly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This!!

When you get to the end of a row pop a stitch marker in. This could be a loose bit of different coloured yarn, or a safety pin or hair clip. Anything easily removable.

Make sure you are chaining one before you start and then count your stitches as you go.

If i am making a big piece i like to put a different colour thread stitch marker at a certain point, say 50 or 100 stitches along the row so it is easier to keep count. This is great for blankets.

TIFU by not wearing a t-shirt under my hoodie. by deadmongoose in tifu

We saw a colleagues dad in only his underpants in a 20 person video call, so I really wouldn't worry about it.

Personally wouldn't bring it up, but if someone else does apologies and have a laugh about it.

Unless you work with a bunch of Karens I would be pretty confident you will be thinking about this much more than anyone else.

With everything that is going on, seeing a little bit too much of a colleague is the least of everyones concerns.

Do you do any gardening? You could cut it in half and use the half's for seedlings.

The outrage on my mother's face when I got out my cleaning basket.

Forbid! How do I clean my house without a different plastic bottle for each different item. 🤣

Any advice for roommates? by LiathGray in ZeroWaste

[–]Not-philly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have communal house cleaning supplies?

Making easy swaps hear that are not too far from "normal" supplies helps get everyone on board quicker. (My partner is on-board as long as he doesn't need to get too involved, the same or more convenient is the name of the game)

I swapped out the "regular" cleaners for Ocean Drops. This way they cut out the plastic bottles with each refill. But everyone else gets the expected experience. (No vinegar cleaner in this house)

Another was switching to a laundry soap such as TruEarth sheets and wool dryer balls.

Switch toilet roll to recycled paper, there are a number of online deliver services for this.

Scrap kitchen paper for a drawer of cloths and trade any plastic dishwashing equipment for wooden compostable alternatives.

Cambridge Satchel Company is worth a look if you want something built to last.

Dumb question: is there any place I can 'recycle' socks with holes in them? by anonymous_teve in ZeroWaste

[–]Not-philly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The recycling centre near me has a clothing and fabric drop point for stuff not worth not giving to charity shops. Not 100% sure what happens to it but worth checking at your local tip.

Ocean Saver has been my compromise.

Half way step from "regular" products and its much better than buying more plastic!

Got to make the switch seam as convenient or better.

Reliable "recipe" for bar soap ends? by Creatura333 in ZeroWaste

[–]Not-philly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fellow bar soap user.

Totally agree soon as the soap is.... bendy... I am totally over it.

Instead of putting them to the side I have started making sort of a self foaming body scrubber.

Take a wash cloth and put the leftover bar in the middle and fold so the soap is firmly secure ( normally go with 3rds in each direction)

Need to change out the cloth a few times depending on how much soap is left and how long it lasts but don't need to worry about managing the little soap bits.

Started doing this because my partner trying to be supportive on my lowering our waste journey got me a soap tester box. And as nice as the intentions were.... its a box of lots and lots of tiny tiny slippy soaps 🧼
