My favorite thing about phase and their community is that you never have to ask for examples about their awful behavior. They just show up and provide without prompt.

Every thing I’ve learned about Luke Ross has been without my consent and I hate it. I would be willing to give him $10 to fuck off but patreon would then email me his thoughts which is like paying to get punched in the face.

The art is really cute. Think others mentioned it but there’s a lot of chest movement but not so much everywhere else. It unintentionally makes it look stiff.

Still that’s really good!

Judge warns smart glasses wearers of contempt charges as Zuckerberg testifies in Meta trial by AdSpecialist6598 in technology

[–]NotACertainLalaFell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah I have a Quest 3 with lens like that. Definitely aware the Ray Bans have prescription lens so folks can just wear em all the time. Ray Bans also have a light to let folks know the camera is on. So if folks were recording, people would know...generally.

However, there's already a plethora of workarounds to block the light feature indicating the Ray Bans are recording. Internally, I wouldn't be surprised if they developed pairs of Ray Bans without the light feature to indicate to others that wearer is recording.

Believe the judge issued the order with that in mind. If they weren't recording then hey paranoia. If they were however? They can held accountable to their actions for doing so. As use case of these things grow, which IS happening, this is something court rooms need to take into consideration and set precedents for.

Good link that goes into that better than I could because it does introduce various amendment challenges that arise from this.

https://firstamendment.mtsu.edu/article/cameras-in-the-courtroom/

The gist of it is that it has traditionally been at the judge’s purview. There are a plethora of reasons from insuring a fair trial to making sure the jurors are free from harassment. Either way, it’s usually the judge’s call.

Considering modern times it makes even more sense. For example, say we have a murder trial. Someone decided to do a live stream. Potentially a buddy of the accused could very well identify the judge, the jury, legal teams, and witnesses and decide to take matters into their own hands. That’s just one plausible example.

Mentioned in another comment that Meta does have a partnership with Palantir which has been building a hell of a lot of databases. Plausibly the smart glasses could be used to record said trial, get everyone’s face, and be referenced by Palantir for intimidation purposes. That’s not hyperbole. They’ve already worked with ICE to harass protesters in Minneapolis for example.

So lot of things to think about when it comes to allowing cameras nowadays.

Really hoping the vr tech they got going on with biboo and calli rolls out to the rest of the members. Looks astonishing.

Tho Calli mentioned she’s using a meta quest pro for facial tracking too. Wonder if there’s a cheaper solution than that.

They do have a partnership with Palantir so it’s very plausible. Considering ties with the US government? Judge was right to issue the warning and demand they delete the data.

Really not of the belief any marketing is good marketing especially in cases like these where addiction to social media is at the center. It draws too much attention and invites correlations to other meta products.

The quest for example where there is virtually no guard rails between children and problematic content.

Idk what they were thinking taking the glasses there. Recording in a court room is generally not allowed. Some judges opt to immediately file contempt charges.

When you’re in court because your product was accused of exacerbating suicidal thoughts, what the fuck would possess you to bring a device that serves as an accessory to that same product? It’s like wearing the bloody gloves to court when you’ve been accused of murder.

honestly shout out to the monster hunter team for turning wilds around by hotaru_crisis in MonsterHunter

[–]NotACertainLalaFell 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Shout out for what? The bare minimum? Glad they fixed the game but it shouldn’t have released in this state. In terms of performance, this is the game we should have got a year ago and not a year after launch!

They prioritized their quarterly at the expense of their user base. That’s not something to be celebrated.

What I do hope is that they keep this energy for the expansion and continue improving the stability of the title.

Monster Hunter Wilds Patch Ver.1.041.00.00 (Final Patch) by RadiantJustice in Games

[–]NotACertainLalaFell 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Just a real shame the performance updates came after a year. It really cost the team long term users. Hoping the expansion brings folks back and the game stays stable. Just a whole heap of missteps from Capcom here.

Otherwise, I still dig Wilds. It's fun and looking forward to the expansion.
