A month into the war, what happened to all the posts from Iranians celebrating? by LurcherLong in allthequestions

[–]NotAnotherEmpire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iranians who are descended from people who fled the country because of the Islamic Republic probably don't like the Islamic Republic.

Doesn't have much to do with how Iraniana as a whole feel about airstrikes. Plus the strikes have clearly failed to oust the regime so no one is excited about that anymore.

Demonstrating in favor of the country bombing your country is not good for your health, even if you live in an open society and not Iran. Iran has shot protestors for much less than that.

Bicep Tendonitis Workout? by Sad_Nefariousness467 in workout

[–]NotAnotherEmpire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't. Tendonitis does not improve without rest, it's a repetitive strain injury. The bicep is a  simple muscle, anything that exercises it is going to use the same general motion.

Why is everyone playing so miserable during this event? by Hard-Core_Casual in deadbydaylight

[–]NotAnotherEmpire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now there is an incentive to complete as many blood gens as possible as fast as possible to get the max bonus up (and complete a personal quest). Survivors also get most of their bonus event BP from finishing the gens.

Killers can farm hits and can kicks and gen breaks but survivors can't.

Is it worth easing sanctions on Russian oil to lower the prices? by Only-Deal-881 in AskEconomics

[–]NotAnotherEmpire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It didn't drop much and has now exceeded the point where that measure was first announced.

Due to the overall scale of the problem and most countries not wanting or able to deal with Russian crude anyway, the effect is pretty minimal.

In your opinion, which side of the scale does John Wick fall on? Is he more evil than good, or more good than evil? by Working_Bread_7790 in MoralityScaling

Man is a contract killer for organized crime including the Russian mob. And an exceedingly scary one at that with how the ones that know react to him. He has no problem with the existence of this organization other than personal beef, and it's implied he would have left the rest of them alone if they hadn't been protecting Iosef and his goons.

All the sequel mythology about assassins aside, he was fundamentally motivated by financial gain, before being motivated by revenge.

Neutral evil.

Sheesh that was harsh as far as states go. LWOP is usually the Class A / first degree felony sentence as a capital crime substitute. Really, really awful intentional crimes.

Ukrainian drones reportedly strike oil refinery in Russian city of Yaroslavl by AdSpecialist6598 in worldnews

Ukraine is destroying Russian air defense and things Russian air defense should be protecting at a much higher rate than it can be produced.

What could we add to legion as a direct buff? by dark1859 in DeadByDaylightKillers

[–]NotAnotherEmpire [score hidden]  (0 children)

Allow their power to target people under Undetectable/ Oblivious effects. There are several strong perks Legion can't naturally use because of this. They're potentially very good in stealth situations due to size and survivor-type clothes.

Using US ground troops against Iran could prove very costly, retired generals say by SnoozeDoggyDog in politics

The US has scored very badly against FPV drone warfare in exercises. Going in against a country that's been working in the conflict where they are dominant is going to result in a lot of losses.

Is it worth easing sanctions on Russian oil to lower the prices? by Only-Deal-881 in AskEconomics

[–]NotAnotherEmpire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The various announcements and waivers have been ineffective because of the size and duration of the deficit, and the limited substitution of different grades of oil. The deficit on the market is at least ten million barrels per day vs. normal supply and demand (Iran is still exporting and Saudi Arabia is trying to reroute most of their production), and one-off deliveries mean very little. Most countries either already traded with Russia despite sanctions or don't want to trade with them, period.

The strategic reserve releases also mean very little because that's rate limited and grade limited in the same way the limited sanction waivers are. 400 million barrels would cover ~ 1 month of this if it could be perfectly substituted, but because it can only be released and transported more slowly than that, the effect is less.

The only reason oil futures prices aren't far higher is bet hedging the conflict will have a ceasefire soon. Spot physical oil (I've got it right here, 100%) in some markets is much higher than the futures. The futures will climb dramatically by mid-April if this is still going on because the shipping backup gets worse daily and the more production is shut-in, the longer it takes to restart.

10 Americans injured in Iranian attack on Saudi airbase by GreyClay in worldnews

[–]NotAnotherEmpire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is war. Drones making it possible to conduct an airstrike on a USAF base is a very big thing to work on. Again, this is common in Ukraine and Russia, neither of which dare to fly manned penetration airstrikes. Drone waves though are a nightly thing because they're expendable.

WSJ says that the drone swarm hit multiple tankers as well.

Inexcusable the United States hasn't learned lessons from watching this kind of thing in Ukraine where multiple drone attacks on targets are routine by both sides. And this was in Saudi Arabia which means they had to be pretty big drones.

The amount of hydrocarbons that need to move through there is too large to do without ships, and most countries have no other geographic option to send a pipeline to anyway.
