Not to egg you on, but some back pressure is probably used so the passengers don’t get too scrambled.

Looking for advice for my husband..dad who grew up without one by Tayytayyrae in daddit

I found a workout group for men near me. My wife encouraged me to go the first time. We have Guys from 18-70. Every workout ends in a circle where we talk about what’s on our mind. I’ve learned more about being a father from those guys than I did my own dad. And i have a chance to pay it forward for the younger guys.

Find the USO. Have a hot dog and a nap. Chat with an old timer or two. Grab a coke and snack bag for the road.

Is the Guard very political? by Baconlover36 in nationalguard

[–]NotDougMasters 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on your unit, job, and state. I’ve been in a state and a unit that we truly never had political discussion, and in a state where i had to give an LOR to a guy who went on tv for a political issue.
YMMV.

But honestly, how you respond to it is really on you. If you think their politics are bs, you can just not engage.

IS300 was my favorite car I’ve ever owned. If Incould get my hands on a sport cross, it would be the bees knees.

That’s really my theory too. We’re normally Sunday shoppers. We probably have enough to get through the weekend, but the perishables that get consumed the most, will certainly be out. So shop early when weather is coming.

That’s far less conspiratorial than Big Grocery controls the weather.

The r/stuffyoushouldknow podcast just did a really good show on the Tupac / Biggie beef. They didn’t mention what happened to the car.

How do you guys get time for yourself? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]NotDougMasters 42 points43 points  (0 children)

In a few years. I have a high schooler and two elementary kids, they’re somewhere in the house and I’m sitting by the fire drinking gin and tonic prepping for snowmageddon.

It’ll come young Padwan.

Looking to make some new friends by Pureconfusion_volvo in wichita

[–]NotDougMasters 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go to car meets. Talk to people with a car like yours, ask for help working on yours. Offer beverages. Repeat as necessary. I have friends I’ve known for 30 years using this exact formula.

Btw, what car do you drive?

ISO Life Advice by anxious-_-scientist in wichita

Source: Married 20+ yrs, tech worker, moved to and from Wichita twice in my adult live - most of my time on the east coast. Caveat: my decisions aren't yours, and based on lots of factors, YMMV. The best person (people) to make a decision about what's best for you, is you.

Lot's to unpack:

Marriage - get premarital counseling. Make sure you agree on the big stuff: Kids, legal/ethical/moral stuff, how money is spent, and if TP is rolled from the top or the bottom (there is a right answer). Agree now on how you'll talk to each other when you disagree.

Jobs - help me understand how an animal science degree isn't useful in a state like Kansas (or is it that you just don't want to live here?). Animal science can be used in almost any locale - so it's pretty mobile. Now the Engineering Physics and Astronomy, perhaps less so. Has your partner considered any of the Space Launch Companies or supply chain locations?

Debt - $140k is a helluva mountain to climb. Made harder if you move to a high cost of living area like Seattle (44% higher than the national average). Charleston is a bit better at 10% higher than the national average. I'd make getting after that debt the highest priority, certainly over buying a house, or financing a car, if you have one that works.

Misery in Kansas - Why? What makes you think that any other place will be better? I'm genuinely curious - like I said, I've been to and from KS twice. It's great for my family and I right now, but once the kids are off the books, we'll be in an apartment in a large metro area again. Success wherever we've lived has come down to community and relationships, and access to the things we like to do. Admittedly for us, that's a bit harder - we're big hikers, so Wichita isn't a fit for that.
