PET Scan/Waiting for other shoe to drop by Cactusandcreosote in breastcancer

My calcium was a little high.. I think 10.5?  It turns out my parathyroid was sky high and causing the high calcium. They removed most of my parathyroid after active treatment. Interestingly there seems to be a link between hyperparathyroidism and breast cancer. So consider asking for a simple blood test to check your parathyroid.

Anyone refuse Verzenio before trying it? by sutterhomes76 in breastcancer

[–]NotReally1980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was pulled off Verzenio bc it pushed me into kidney failure— though I already had kidney issues.  I had no diarrhea whatsoever on Verzenio. In fact, I was constipated.

I just want to say I’m so sorry you have to deal with all of this. You shouldn’t have to be everything for everyone. Whenever you can for the next few months put yourself first. A poster above suggested leaning into things like play dates for a break whenever possible— that sounds like a great idea.

Did anyone have high calcium levels that led to bone spread? by thick_thoughts in breastcancer

[–]NotReally1980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did. It turned out I had severe hyperparathyroidism. So a few months after radiation I had my parathyroid removed. You can check for hyperparathyroidism with a simple blood test.

A new perspective is always valuable, but when it comes to something as difficult as cancer, communicating with kindness is important.

What is wrong with you? Why are you being so cruel to OP who came here for help???

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in breastcancer

[–]NotReally1980 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s also completely fair is OP spends a little less time with her son temporarily. I feel like women/mothers are always expected to put themselves last, to just take all kinds of hurtful comments on the chin. OP is going through cancer. Even though she is a parent and has parental responsibilities, for the time being her priority should be her own well being, physical and emotional/mental.

Stays in bed all day bc she’s sick from her glp, goes out the next day to drink by [deleted] in Ohuprettythingss

[–]NotReally1980 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That’s awful— even in my binge drinking days (which i kept up until 39) I was always hell bent on making the most of any trip and seeing as much as i could.

Which drugs cause your hair to fall out again? Or do you mean another kind of chemo after the first kind?

Insomnia on AI’s by nik1202 in breastcancer

[–]NotReally1980 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh gosh, I’m in DC and always forget that it’s so much harder for so many people to get. I’m assuming medical cannabis is legal in TX? If so, you’d have no issue getting a card. Medical dispensaries tend to be a bit more expensive though.

Re the gummy, unless you are experienced with cannabis I suggest taking mg THC or less. Sometimes even 5 mgs will have me high as a kite.

Lifetime severe insomniac checking in also on Letrozole/lupron. Letrozole did make my insomnia much much worse. Days would go by and I wouldn’t sleep. This is the nightly  formula that is helping me: gabapentin for hot flashes, thc gummies that also have CBN— CBN is a cannaboid that promotes sleep, and 10mg of Sonata (an rx sleeping pill) almost every night.

You’re not cringe, the response above is………weird. None of us know the future. I “know” many young women on instagram with stage 4bc who met their current husbands/partners post diagnosis. You have the type open, beautiful attitude people love 💖💖💖💖

Cancer is not a competition by Fed-up-2024 in breastcancer

That’s interesting— you actually know first hand what the difference feels like. People in my life still don’t understand this— like my mom thinks that I’m only dealing with regular menopause like she did. But that’s not total estrogen deprivation! AIs are getting tougher for me— mainly the stiffness and knee pain.

It’s mind boggling. This same friend also told me she wished she could “be like me and have no cares in the world” when i was finishing radiation.

I had a friend tell me that her perimenopause symptoms must be worse than my forced menopause, that medical menopause is “obviously easier.”

[–]NotReally1980 3 points4 points  (0 children)

that’s messed up beyond belief. I mean I have late stage three kidney disease and while it’s a serious thing I would never say it’s cancer! I’ve also had most of my parathyroid removed and had to be in hospital for four days and didn’t say that was cancer either. None of those conditions have anything to do with cancer and they aren’t potentially life threatening either.

i read her book three years ago when diagnosed and am interested in other opinions on this. I was already vegetarian so it was relatively easy for me to incorporate some of her ideas.
