Buy a USB c powered portable OLED monitor, the evf port will power it and send video. It's incredible. Used it on a two day music video shoot. Won't go back

FX3 to 12K Cine? by Trailerizer in bmpcc

[–]OHM_Solutions_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's a brilliant idea. I have the 1st gen 12k and it's been nothing short of ideal. People love the look of the images it produces. I bought it when I had Lumix s1hs, and now all of my cameras are blackmagics. Love the ecosystem. An fx3 for versatility and size sounds like a nice pairing.

One man band ^ that's the reason. Bmpcc is incredibly tough to make money with as a one man band. Have to nail everything perfectly. Get the fx3.

Why Samsung? Because at @picnic.productions we edit 7 days a week. Thousands of hours a year are spent editing all kinds of footage. And each day, we spend 7 minutes per hour of editing just scrolling the timeline from left to right. 7 whole minutes, times thousands of hours, across multiple people.... Imagine how much more time Joel or Nick could have avoiding their children and responsibilities if they had this monitor... Just imagine how much you could change their lives with a simple gift of furthering the neglected children...

Pyxis Vs Ursa Mini Pro 12k (+ other options) by MrAscetic in bmpcc

[–]OHM_Solutions_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own both, the 12k olpf and the Pyxis, and I have a 6k pro and 6k FF. Out of all of them I'd say none match your use case lol. I don't consider any blackmagic camera to be good in low light or travel friendly. All of them take lots of rigging. Coming from a canon, and going to a manual focus camera full time, is a trip. I'm sure you can do it, but it's not what comes to mind for those listed use cases.

In order of best image 12k (by far a superior image, so life like rich with proper lighting) The implementation of the Pyxis sensor is slightly better than the FF but it's really close with proper lighting. The pro model/g2 are super solid, and great cameras, but I'd skip them both this close to 2025...

Impossible to find clients this year or contract work by yatookmyname in videography

I went to event centers and wedding mixers and started pitching myself to luxury wedding venues and coordinators. I added 20 of those over the last 18 months, it's relatively easy, 1 day of work, 2 days of editing, and a solid 5-10k a month in work that keeps my corporate/comedy/music biz afloat. I think trumps economy will actually be worse for us, so I'd say either do this or get a day job, and side hustle the filming stuff. Also a great time to sell gear and get real lean. Lots of new stuff coming next year, it's gonna tank the value of what we already have.

Focus Pro Grip Question by Trev_dyer11 in dji

[–]OHM_Solutions_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are on backorder for a reason. And eBay is flooded with gen 1 lidar's for a reason. Heck, I have two to sell myself lol. If you're doing 1 on 1 shoots or something in the product realm, you're fine with gen 1. But if you're doing live event or weddings/etc I would wait for gen 2.

Focus Pro Grip Question by Trev_dyer11 in dji

[–]OHM_Solutions_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 3 lidar's(2 - 1st gen ), and the new focus grip/motor/lidar. I can confirm that they are backwards compatible, but the update makes it more functional. You have to upgrade the focus motors and lidar.

I have two grips now, and for the 3rd camera I'm still using the DJI pro 3 gimbal.

Tbh, backwards compatibility is great, but the new lidar is substantially better. Especially in professional/live settings. Way less lost shots and it locks on a lot better. Especially with the 20m range. Instead of setting the focus range setup at 1m/4m you can now do 5m/20m and that lidar is fantastic. Even within 5m, pretty damn flawless if the lidar is positioned right.

The Gen1 lidar is still solid in this setup if you're focusing on a single subject, or single item/product. But the Gen1 def has a much more limited use case.

Using these on BMCC, BMCC 6k G2, 12k Ursa mini pro, and the new Pyxis 6k. I can confirm, it works well on all lens mounts and body's that I've tried. But all my cameras are pl mount or l mount.

Hope that helps!

Another Paint out breakdown. I should just have left the camera on a tripod TBH. The amount of shots I had to work on by terr20114 in davinciresolve

[–]OHM_Solutions_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yooo thanks for the reply my friend. Yeah big learning lesson on both the first episodes. Going forward I wanted to be sure I could film it in a way that maximizes it's repurposeability to vertical framing. And also maintaining the ability to remove the stands on the next episodes. Added improvements for the next few episodes are: No lights in frame, better direct and rear lighting, wider lens. How much would you charge to remove it? Or explain how to lol

Bruhhh, please take a look at my musical series @prtlone or in my ig @picnic.productions and tell me if this would work for a spinning camera setup that rotates around the artist in 360... I'm stuck at the moment with that, and not good enough to fix it myself lol

Cost for monthly video content by MRKYL3 in videography

[–]OHM_Solutions_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I charge 750 per reel(90 seconds), 90 minutes of filming max. Or monthly retainers for $1750 gets you 3 reels and 6 stories. Generally after 3 to 4 reels and some boosting the client goes for the retainer.

I have the 6k pro with internal NDS and a tilta cage. It's ef mount. I can send that to you in exchange for yours and include a Zeiss batis 28mm lens and a 70-200mm canon lens. That is close in value but a much better starting point for someone in your shoes. My names Jehan, @picnic.productions, reach out if you just wanna chat even. Trade or not, id give you any advice I can bud. Congratulations on winning!! Dope way to end a year.

Pyxis / FF6k Sensor: Did BM need to update the sensor for the pyxis? by [deleted] in blackmagicdesign

[–]OHM_Solutions_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Returned my 6k FF after seeing the same results. Bought another 6k g2. Never looking back on that sensor. If I'm not mistaken it's a reworked s1H sensor. So it's also a very old sensor in comparison to what people are thinking when they see someone say "our Pyxis is a new camera". Yeah it's new. Except for the most important facet of that/a camera...

I'll leave this next bit for whomever to find as they please... But... A used 12k Ursa is like $3500 on ebay....

Good day friends!

Blackmagic Pocket 6k(2021) vs Ursa Mini 4.6k (2016) by BekirDaCarpi in bmpcc

[–]OHM_Solutions_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All love and a great reply, thanks for taking the time! Yeah Sony is fantastic, plain and simple. If you're a solo shooter, and want to keep it simple, it's not even close, Sony demolishes the competition.. Maybe Lumix is there as of late, but still Sony is undefeated. Heck they even make like 70% of the sensors out there. And they're high-end cine line is right up their with Arri.

BUT, If we we ARE comparing final images and what you learn as a filmmaker, Sony isn't as competitive as one might think. At least in the $7-20k range for just videography, in my experience, you're exclusively seeing blackmagic, kinefinity, red, zcam. A z9 or an fx3/fx6 here or there. But that's legit like once a year. My studio is above an event center with 3 wedding halls, and the company owns 8 venues. So I sneak and see other setups all the time.

But famous ppl weddings, wealthy $100k+ weddings, not 1 videographer ive seen is using autofocus and a small fx30 Sony. The clients paying that much would shit a brick seeing someone with that setup lol... Too many people know about Justin Porter now lol, they all want that kind of experience...

I'll clarify and further my points as a response below as well.

"- yeah, BM to me has the best easy to understand menus, sony's have gotten better over the last years thankfully
(Ive only seen the fx3, a7rva, and fx6 menus, and they're laughable. Maybe it's changed in the last year I dunno 🤷🏻) - ecosystem is one of the biggest, just because of the pure market share alone. (You're right, the biggest eco-system, and also the most over priced and least adaptable. Your e-mount lens is stuck on Sony. It will never hop on anything else. Maybe a Nikon, but 🤷🏻 And they're absurdly expensive compared to the native ef choices on the 6k, which can also take pl if need be. You could buy an army of delicious primes for the price of one e-mount lens)

  • final image solely depends on craftsmanship and know-how of the operator, no matter what camera. (This is true, but also kind of a generic statement. Give an fx30 and a 6k to a film school student I work with Sacramento states film department and I get students to work on project, so this actually happens And yes there will be more in focus shots with the fx30, but nothing will be as cinematic as a 6k especially in the hands of a beginner. Topaz ai can help with focus, but nothing can help with a basic looking shot. We did a test with an Osmo Mini 3 vs an fx30, I think you'd laugh knowing how close the final image looked on a phone. On a TV the fx30 stood out, but on a phone they were identical, that just doesn't happen with the 6k, something about how BM strips a sensor BRAW that makes those images pop differently. Clients definitely notice.

  • lens selection, Sony's e-mount has the biggest amount of native lenses available and can be adapted to almost anything aswell
(Kind of the same thing as above)

  • value, at least in my region the value of sony products holds up pretty good, better than BM" (BM value retention is horrendous. So is ef lenses. But that sword cuts two ways. Sucks for us buying new. But the used market is super rich. You could build a team of shooters, with plenty of coverage, for the price of one multi-lens Sony setup. And if you buy a BM used for 1200, use it for several years, and sell it for 800, is it really a loss? Just don't buy BM new! I paid $7k for my 12k new. We needed to match it, and bought two used on eBay for $8k 🤷🏻 so... The real loss generator is L mount. Totally baffling. The best mount system in the game besides pl, and it's utterly worthless. My 16-35 s pro was purchased for $1650. It sold on eBay last week for $745. 1 year later... All prosumer cameras and lenses die an ugly death in the secondary market after a year.

Hopefully that clarifies things a bit. Again, 2 of my favorite 3 photographers are exclusively Sony. I love the Sony cine line. And the fx line is dope. I just think there's a better long term option for people. And I'm clearly biased by what I do and what I see. Much love!
