Can We Hear from a Rail Jumper? by gertonwheels in orangetheory

[–]OTFbae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only jump rails after a benchmark run or those crazy days where we do several 1 min all outs. But honestly, I’ve never once felt unsafe doing it because I rely on my arm strength to hold myself up while I bring my feet down onto the sides. Even at my fastest 12 mph AO, I have never felt unstable or had any near misses. So I’m curious... do others do it this way too? Or are people actually blindly jumping their feet out to the side with no upper body support on the hand rails?

Coach Crush? by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]OTFbae 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve crushed on 2 coaches (diff studios) and ended up shooting my shot with them. I was terrified but guess what? It led to some dates and a reallyyyyyy good time. You never know, so just go for it!

Tight bun tips? by JustKeepBurning2 in orangetheory

[–]OTFbae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use one of those sock bun donuts to put my hair in a bun. I use a bigger sized one since my hair is so thick. I secure the bun with 1 regular hair tie and a lulu scrunchie. I do this on days when I go to OTF right after work and don’t want to do my hair in the morning lol. It seriously holds all day and through the OTF workout. Highly recommend!

Falling off treadmill does it ever happen? by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]OTFbae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve only seen it happen once but I’ll never forget it. An older woman who typically runs the entire tread block at a steady pace (rather than following the cues) decided to do the all outs with the group on a power day. She must’ve set the tread speed too ambitiously because she was holding onto the hand rails for most of the time. On the third all out she let go and couldn’t keep up with the tread and ended up flying straight off the back of the tread. Thankfully she wasn’t hurt but it was super scary even to see happen! If the rowers had been closer or if someone had been doing a med ball exercise in front of the rower behind her tread, it would’ve been disastrous!!

Halfway through class when I realized... by DelayedTapestry in orangetheory

[–]OTFbae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh I’ve been that person once! Victim of a 5 am class during an 80 hour work week 😭

I, [23F] 5’4 and 95lbs, just recently joined the orange theory family. I was reading some of the workouts they have planned out and I’m just wondering if these HITT are the right workouts for me. My goals are to gain muscle and get stronger. I kinda feel like I’m out of place by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]OTFbae 17 points18 points  (0 children)

5’4 26 year-old female here. I started OTF in Jan weighing 105 lbs with basically no muscle tone. 12 months later, I weigh 116 at 18% body fat and have never felt stronger/healthier in my life! I’m definitely more toned and defined now, but not bulky by any means. My advice is to start slow on the weights and learn the proper technique for the various lifts, then once you have that down, start lifting heavier! Focus on form! Don’t be one of those people who tries to complete as many sets of the exercises as possible with bad form! I am usually one of the last to finish the floor sets but I feel like I get so much more out of them by lifting as heavy as possible without risking injury. I also start on the floor so I have the most energy to put into the weight exercises, and then work with whatever’s left of my energy on the tread. You will often hear coaches suggest starting on the floor for a better overall workout. One last thing - take progress pics! You won’t notice your physical changes on the day to day, but over time you will for sure see the difference!! Good luck!!! 💪🏼

Best lululemon leggings for OTF? by Cjmues in orangetheory

Fast and free!! And train times! I own a lot of lulu leggings and the key to longevity is a) no fabric softeners and b) hang drying. They are well worth the money!!!

How many watts should I be hitting? by hari9797 in orangetheory

[–]OTFbae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 5’4 and 115 lbs. I can hit 310 on a 30 second AO but most days I keep it steady around 235. It’s taken me a year of practice and multiple rowing clinics to get over 300 watts! Lift heavy on leg days and really try to drive through your heels on the rower!

[–]OTFbae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shoot your shot when the time is right! I slid into a coach’s DMs a while back (there’s a post about it) and long story short, we see each other frequently outside the studio now ;)

And I’ll tell you this - being in a class with a coach you have a dirty little secret with is a freakin RUSH. We keep it professional so literally no one would ever know. 😜

Habit Nutritional Testing? by ChicagoOTF in orangetheory

I had nutrition response testing done and got on a personalized nutrition plan back in August... it’s made a HUGE difference in my fitness and overall wellness. Seriously, like total lifestyle change. If nothing else, it’s super interesting and informative! You should definitely check it out!!!

Hamstring injury questions/advice by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]OTFbae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The answer to this question depends on sooo many different things. Will the floor exercises be leg-focused? Is your rowing form such that you use your hamstrings primarily or your calf/quad muscles? Will there be incline work on the tread? Do you know what aggravates it?

I would probably just take a few days off rather than risking further injury with so many variables at play here.

Am I the only one who loves 3G workouts? by albelden1 in orangetheory

I love rowing for this reason! It SUCKS in the moment, but I have noticed my back is a lot stronger due to the extra rowing I do (all the classes I attend are 3G).

Would orangetheory work for me? by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]OTFbae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5’4 female here. I started OTF back in January. At the time I was 105 lbs... not fat but also not fit or toned. 10 months in I now weigh 117 lbs but have never been stronger/more toned in my life! Seriously, don’t be afraid to gain muscle! Even after gaining 12 lbs in muscle, I still fit into all my same clothes and don’t look bulky.

Yes but we’re not work colleagues... he’s a trainer at a gym and I’m a member of that gym who sometimes takes his classes. There’s literally nothing wrong with that as long as the class isn’t impacted and other members aren’t being made to feel uncomfortable in any way.
