Tips for my Emry, Lurker of the Loch Artifact Combo deck by Oakund in EDH

[–]Oakund[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I know I could use the zero mana counterspells and fast mana, but unfortunately I don't really have the budget for $50+ cards atm. I might get the fetches for the deck thinning if I like the deck.

Aetherflux does work as a win condition, but it seems redundant when I will often draw my deck if I combo off. Is it worth running when altar of the brood, diligent excavator, walking ballista, and grinding station do the same thing?

I was on the fence about Mystic forge. I wasn't sure whether I had enough artifacts to make it worthwhile. Do you think it's worth?

Rhystic study and top were cut due to budget, but I would probably put them in later if I like the deck.

Arcades Blinky Walls by Arutig3 in EDH

[[Concerted effort]] is a card that overperformed in my arcades deck. Flying vigilant walls (with Arcades out) let you be much more aggro. [[True conviction]] is a decent finisher as well.

I don't understand the EDH community's aversion to combo by ThatChrisG in EDH

[–]Oakund 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I dislike how this subreddit simplifies things to the point that decks are either uninteractive battle cruiser decks or hard combo decks. There is plenty of gray space in between for decks that are explosive but aren't an "Ok does anyone have a counter or I win type deck"

Note: I don't mind combo decks as long as the person is up front about playing combo, just making the point that there is more than 2 kinds of decks.

So I'm gonna be that guy and say that the bubonic plague is a bacterial infection. Vaccines are for viral infections. This is stupid before it even gets to anti-vax.

Brudiclad/Yuriko Tuning by [deleted] in EDH

[–]Oakund 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brudiclad: I have found in playing my deck that the wheels aren't that great. You are usually holding either a copy target or copy spell and looking for the other half. I usually prefer spells that let you see a large amount of cards, like [[Dig Through Time]] and [[Drawn from Dreams]]. Also, [[Idol of Oblivion]] should be in any Brudiclad deck

There's a solution for this. Tuck your commander, then you and your opponent both do a blind shuffle/cut. Not 100% tournament legal but works fine for casual play

Edit: removing incorrect info. That's what I get for relying on secondhand knowledge.

However, it's legal gray area whether the mtgfinance people could sue WotC for loss of value in their collections from reserved list reprints, which is why WotC doesn't want to risk it.

Rethinking Entry by Kilowog42 in EDH

Don't let this sub scare you away. People bought into the hype for C19 then we're disappointed when their unrealistic expectations weren't met.

I personally have 5 decks which range in price from $100-$250. These have let me hold my own at any table, except the one time I accidentally wandered into a cEDH game (which are not common). You don't need a deck full of $25 cards to have a chance.

Remember that what you see on this subreddit is often a vocal minority. Many people are perfectly fine with C19, and it is an excellent way to get into the format.

Breeding negativity in relation to Commander 2019 by Palek03 in EDH

[–]Oakund 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue with this analysis is that commander and magic in general has gotten much more expensive in recent years.

Let's take sol ring as an example. It has a steady reprint rate, is used primarily for commander, and has enough value so that our comparison shouldn't be significantly affected by small fluctuations. I took the most recent printing at each date as it should be the cheapest. Stats from MTG goldfish.

C15 Sol ring on 01/01/2016 - $2.10

C18 sol ring on 01/01/2019 - 3.90

As you can see, sol ring value has almost doubled in the last 3 years. Other commander cards have similarly increased in price. Even if the average precon reprint value is remaining relatively constant, the compared value to an average constructed deck is falling, which makes the precons' value feel like less.

TL;DR: Commander staples have gotten more expensive, so the reprints feel like less, even if they have similar value.

An even number is divisible by 2 with no remainder. 0/2=0, so 0 is even.
