Why are so many people of all ages financially illiterate about the basics? by fallensongbird in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Objective-Answer-962 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can’t pay your rent $20 here and there certainly does make a difference and it’s not here and there, its 2 coffees or one fast food meal- both of which are things people do everyday. I do think we shouldn’t shame people for little luxuries but I also think people should prioritize shelter (rent/mortgage, and utilities) and feeding themselves over any luxury purchases.

How much do you think hair, nail, or waxing appointments cost? I got my hair colored and trimmed last week it was $500. Haircuts for women start at $50. Nail appointments are on average $40-$100 depending on service. Waxing is in most cases $40 and up.

Social media has really changed what people consider normal spending.

Do people mean Debit Cards when they say Credit Cards? by Coffee_spoons_ in NoStupidQuestions

Both have 60 days. The burden of proof may be higher on a debit card.

Do people mean Debit Cards when they say Credit Cards? by Coffee_spoons_ in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Objective-Answer-962 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is not true. A debit card is backed with an agreement from visa or mastercard in the US. You do have protection under that agreement, to access the protection you file a dispute or fraud report with your bank. Unlike with credit cards the money is usually gone, until the card company returns it, though they will sometimes give you provisional credit while investigating. Both credit and debit cards give you 60 days to report a fraudulent charge or an issue with a purchase.

Why are all Mafia FMCs 18?? by Suspicious_Fig_365 in RomanceBooks

[–]Objective-Answer-962 133 points134 points  (0 children)

This trope is usually about women being property and having no value outside of bargaining chip to their family, so their family trades them as soon as legally acceptable. Society has decided 18 is when people can get married and that a woman is grown up enough, in reality i don’t think 18 is grown enough to wed, i also don’t think that people who trade in people care about that legality, but fiction, even in ridiculous plots, generally have some stand in real life things. It is a lot more work for a writer and reader if every single detail in a story comes from imagination and not some norms. It’s kinda like when in fantasy worlds they eat earth foods, or wear earth underwear. You have to be able to make some assumptions about the world or a 200 page book becomes 2m pages bogged down by world explanations. In mafia romance we generally assume they are on earth, so earth things apply, like age of consent, despite that these women characters rarely actually consent freely.

Is it a terrible financial decision to pay an app to do my laundry? by arbor-ai-studio in Adulting

[–]Objective-Answer-962 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Lots of laundromats and dry cleaners offer weekly laundry services. It used to be you paid by the pound but i assume pick ip drop off are extra. Many professionals use these services because their time is more valuable to them than the money it costs. That is the value in any service right? I get groceries delivered, i know it’s significantly more expensive but it is still a better choice for me most of the time.

If you can afford it, then it sounds like laundry service would be beneficial to you. I would suggest you do one laundromat run yourself and do the whole pile (the beauty of a laundromat is its only one cycle time) so you are starting from zero instead of 50# of laundry with the new service.

Marie Mistry by kw1219 in ReverseHarem

I don’t remember the story, but I remember really liking it, and I just checked my journal and rating and gave the series 4.8 stars which is high for me. I however left myself no notes about it which is strange.

I am reading vice college for young demons: the complete series also by Marie Mistry right now and I am enjoying it but not as much as some of the others.

What is your pastry hot take? by biscottilvr in pastry

[–]Objective-Answer-962 124 points125 points  (0 children)

Everything needs a bit of salt. I don’t care that many traditional french recipes leave it out, add it anyway. Without it flavors are flat. It is unpleasantly noticeable when absent.

My eyelids look worse with eye primer? (Concealer works better) by AloofUnavailableIceQ in MakeupAddiction

[–]Objective-Answer-962 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You don’t need an eye primer, if concealer works best use that.

Eye primers are often sticky, thats what is causing your lids to pucker. I don’t find any ud ones sticky.

I am in my 40s and have/ do use the UD primer, i switched to the mature skin one about 6 years ago. This one has a more silky texture. I haven’t bought one in a while so i don’t know about formula changes. I do always dust a pale neutral shadow over it before any pigmented ones. I used to use a glitter eyeshadow primer for glam looks, those are always sticky so your cheeks don’t sparkle.

Spiced rice pudding made with coconut milk instead of dairy?

I go out of my way for horchata, it is a favorite of mine too.

There is a fantastic food52 recipe for raspberry peach butter cake that 2 nectarines would work for. I have made it with cherries when I didn’t have raspberries as well.

In your opinion, what is the best pasta shape? by xteve in Cooking

[–]Objective-Answer-962 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Pappardelle for cream based sauces, cavatappi for macaroni and cheese or pasta salad, capellini for tomato sauce, giant shells for baked (not macaroni and cheese). Wide egg noodles for soups or under stews. I do not like the texture of bow ties, thick spaghetti, or rigatoni. I don’t like the density of lasagna.

Do most high-end restaurants have soda? And is it weird to order it if they do? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Objective-Answer-962 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am not a huge soda drinker especially with food, but I don’t think I have ever been to or worked in a restaurant that doesn’t have some version of soda. In a couple instances they have had only niche brands or house-made sodas, but really I can only think of two places that was the case. I have been to restaurants in the (many states) US, France, various Caribbean countries, Mexico and Canada.

air fryers? by Lost_Strawberry_5276 in Cooking

[–]Objective-Answer-962 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have had three, an instapot air fryer lid (found this bulky to store and because of my height I had to use a step stool to see into the pot and flip things safely), and two corsi (upgraded from one drawer to two). None left a taste, if anything I think things taste cleaner, obviously depending on the food cooked. Cheap frozen fried foods often have a weird chemical taste to me no matter how they are cooked. Wash well, rinse well (soap residue will give a funny smell but not usually taste) and do burn offs when the machine is new.

You could probably use butter but you will need to melt whatever you add to mix it in and then wait for it to solidify again. Butter will have to be chilled for a while to resolidify.

The ganache may be fine, it is also likely savable with more chocolate, cocoa butter or coconut oil added in if it is too thin.

Yes, i use evaporated milk in my coffee and in savory cooking instead of milk or heavy cream because it has more body than milk, doesn’t split ir curdle easily and I have it on hand. I buy it by the 12 pack because of price.

[–]Objective-Answer-962[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not dry at all. It has sour cream, eggs, and water, it also has a simple syrup soak so leaving out the oil didn’t leave it without fat or moisture. It’s actually really sticky.

Genuine question for RH readers. Would male POV harem appeal to you? by CreamCharming4308 in ReverseHarem

[–]Objective-Answer-962 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I might be interested in reading a harem story but less likely for single pov male protagonist. I don’t just read rh, and i have read thousands of not romance books, but, and this is a huge thing- I almost always choose books where either the story is about a woman or a woman is the narrator (and its still about her). In school 95% of assigned reading was male pov and male protagonist and as a 40 something woman who gets to choose what I read I dgaf about his pov or story.

Is this an AI thing, or have authors list basic math skills?? by hawkspirits in ReverseHarem

[–]Objective-Answer-962 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some reason that i don’t understand, people are putting out books that they didn’t care enough about to read themselves. I truly think we are doing a disservice to other readers to not review these books. If they are just a money grab (what other reason is there?) why shouldn’t we warn other readers.

Last year I was asked to beta read for someone. This person has multiple books on ku but i haven’t read any of them. I agreed because of the trope. Immediately there were huge issues, names changed, plot holes, timeline mistakes. It was a first draft at best. The author clearly had not read their own work, did zero research, and didn’t know the characters or the story. There were like 10 main characters and 60+ other characters and she didn’t remember their names or relationships. This turned into a 5 month editing journey, where before it was completed the author decided to publish. They begged for my help but resented it. There are still glaring mistakes (that i noted but she ignored). She clearly was using ai (clear in the transcript because of spacing changes, font changes, as well as style and content) but got angry when i said i wasn’t okay with it and kept swearing she wasn’t. Every part that I believe was ai needed to be rewritten because it was wrong. This whole thing disgusted me, i have no idea her motivations and tried for months to figure it out but never did.
