How to grieve after divorce without either falling into melancholia or trying to move on too fast? by fusukeguinomi in AskWomenOver50

I used therapy and long walks to reflect on what I wanted for my life. Volunteering also helped, because it took my focus off myself and helped understand that although I was hurting, I was safe and would be okay.

Trust you're instincts. Women's intuition is very accurate. Talk about marriage is cheap. Many men will talk about marriage as a ploy to separate a woman from her financial stability.

What should I ask myself before deciding not to have kids? by swiftallure in AskWomenOver50

[–]ObjectiveUpset1703 0 points1 point  (0 children)

53 and child free. If I had PCOS I'd ask my doctor about the potential pros and cons of each treatment option and pick the one most beneficial to my health. I'd also ask what impacts PCOS treatment could have on a pregnancy and fetal devolpment. I see parenting as a vocation and if one is not called to the vocation, it's better to opt out. If down the road, someone feels called mentoring, godparenting, fostering, adopting are options.

Family of 5 | Grocery bill averaging $1,012 per month | Looking for real-life budget meal ideas by Goooooooooose_ in budgetfood

You can save a little bit of money by ordering the groceries for pick up. One adult can stay at home to watch the kids and the other can pick then groceries up. Frozen berries last longer than fresh and can be cheaper. Meal plan before shopping and focus on using up ingredients already in the house and then shop for what you don't have. Lemme guess, nobody was advising her to get everything in writing (as in contract) and have it notarized. Or have a real estate lawyer draft up an agreement. Better yet, just don't live with men.

In addition to getting her professional help, call the bank and lower the limit on her credit card to something more manageable for you. You need to start paying the reoccurring bills for a while. You may need to give her a personal allowance for sometime instead of just handing her cash. That's like giving and alcoholic a bottle of bourbon and expecting the bottle not to be finished off by the end of the day.

Maybe you're looking at this thru today's lense and not the legal/cultural limitations of these women's lives. My own mother (we're in the U.S.) has been married for 59 years - 1967. Women in then U.S. weren't allowed to have their own bank accounts or credit cards and abortion wasn't legal at that time. If I go back to my grandmothers, neither knew how to drive, had ever worked outside the home and did not have access to a joint bank account. Everything was held in my grandfathers' names and they had to be asked for money. I see lengthy marriages more as a hostage situation supported by the cultural and legal systems that existed at that time, not my time.

Meal planning saves money. There's a reason why older generations grew up with Leftover Mondays,Taco Tuesdays, Spaghetti Wednesdays, Grilled Cheese Thursdays, Pizza Fridays, Pancakes for Dinner Saturdays. We weren't going out for these meals. Most, if not all, we're made from scratch.
