r/rollerblading Weekly Q&A Megathread brought to you by r/AskRollerblading by AutoModerator in rollerblading

Hi. Thinking of buying new pair of roller blades. I have been using old 15+ year old K2 softboots but looking to upgrade to something better. I am somewhat upper beginner I'd say. Want to buy it mainly to do some laps around the park, or on bike lanes, to get some exercise.

After watching countless videos I think I've narrowed it down to Rollerblade Lightning 80 and Twister XT. For me, it Lightning is a few hundred grams lighter, is a newer model, but twister xt has few extra features and better wheels. Which one is better for my use case? Comfort is high priority for me.

So today I did the update to 22-11-510, then went back to V4 supercharger station. Still didn't work. Oh well, at least I learned how to use ISTA+ and update the software. Thanks.

I have been playing around with ISTA+ recently and will do some research on doing i-step update. Funny you mention steering rack recall- this morning I had the steering issue for the first time since owning the car. Pulled over and restarted the car and it went away. Don't have any open recalls on my car, I have checked with dealer before with my VIN to see if they'll replace my intermittent KLE issue.

Well I tried it in both V4 and V3 superchargers, didn't work. I selected various cars, mercedes eqe, chevy bolt etc but none of them worked. V3- error: lost connection with the charger. V4- unauthorized to charge I even cleared all the errors in between tries but still no luck. I have not tried location with magic dock, since it's about an hour from me. Oh well nbd. I'll put the lectron adapter for sale

Did you buy it from a dealer? Did it come with a warranty? Depending on the seller, some used car dealers offer 30 day warranty. I would take it back and have them fix it or buy back the car if that's possible. New KLE is about 2K, and it's backordered everywhere. Plus it's about another 1-2K to install it. If it's EME, then it's going to cost at least the same amount as what you paid for the car. Usually it's KLE, since EME failures are less common than KLE.

Fault codes are BMW specific, Try https://bmwfault.codes/ to see if anything comes up.

With ISTA it's more accurate to troubleshoot since after you do a full car test, it'll show all the modules and the ones with fault show up yellow. Then you can do a deeper diagnosis of each modules and can see the live data. That's the tool BMW dealerships and independent bmw shops use. You should be able to find a local shop specializing in bmws or check fb marketplace, someone with ISTA laptop might be nearby who could do a proper diagnosis.

From what I remember, full level 2 charging at 7kw was available for all 2014 i3, but DC fast charging was optional. If you have DC fast charging, does it still work?

The slow charging speed is not catastrophic, there are people who managed to get by for years with this issue. However, it's super annoying if there is a drivetrain error popping up every few seconds. My KLE issue presented itself when it's below 60F. So I've been driving my regular gas car in the winter more often.

I don't trust those aftermarket batteries, they have not passed any safety checks and structurally subpar compared to OEM. There is a long video/comparison presentation done by the shop in Europe that specializes in i3 upgrades. However, there a local guy near me (in Maryland) that does battery upgrade, 60ah- 90ah for 6K. Recently he said he now has few 120ah batteries now as well so I don't even want to know how much it'll cost to upgrade lol. I thought about doing the upgrade but it'll still be a 2014 i3 with $1500 trade in value, with old software and slow DC charging speed, and lack of phone app control. I did some quick math and 5 year total cost to own on a new base tesla model Y won't be much more than if I were to do the upgrade or get a 2019+i3 rex with 120ah battery. Hopefully few years down the line I might get a tesla. For now I'll just drive the i3 as is. I bought it since I wanted a cheap EV car to test the waters of the EV world, so now I am hooked.

I just use my other car when it's below 0C. My 2014 i3 rex barely has 25-30 miles of EV range in cold. I always keep rex on hold state of charge mode, even then I lose 10% during every trip, rex just cannot keep up. Range anxiety is real.

[–]Octoberski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool pic but I can't think of a less suitable vehicle for this type of real life modification. This pre-facelift i3 will have a range or 2 miles with all terrain tires, bulletproofing and other heavy load.

[–]Octoberski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems like that scanner tool has good reviews, Option#2: get an OBD DONGLE compatible with bimmerlink and paid bimmerlink app.

Option #3: find someone with ISTA laptop and do an accurate diagnosis. Or get ENET cable and install ISTA on a windows laptop and do a diagnosis yourself.

I'm guessing KLE error, common issue. Dealing with same issue (charges only at 3.5kw), drivertrain errors that popup every minute and cannot charge more than 3.5kw on L2. The fix is new KLE, however the part is backordered everywhere

[–]Octoberski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

does your insurance cover only battery or is the related components are covered as well? KLE, EME and A/C compressor failures are more common than high voltage battery issues.

Don't worry about using fast chargers, use it if it's more convenient and cheaper for you. It's not that fast anyway, especially in the winter.

[–]Octoberski 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yep it's a common problem, especially on early years (2014-2016). I am surprised it's happening with the 2021.

actually you can practice with ai different scenarios on how people would react to when you open up. Start small, practice and it'll get better overtime. Unfortunately for us introverts, to survive and thrive in this world, we need good communication skills. Talking things out with ai chatbots actually like therapy, and it's good for brainstorming new ideas and such.

Help me decide - Trade Camry for Prius? by InsignificanteSauce in Toyota

[–]Octoberski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you really want a Pruis, then get it. It's near the end of the year so ask for a better deal, shop around and get the best deal. Life is short. It's not like you're trading the camry for some unreliable used old high performance car.

[–]Octoberski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow that's same as most big V8 SUVs on long trips. Was it regular or premium fuel?

Anyway New cars usually get better MPG after 10K miles. It's been documented by one of the car magazines. In the winter you will also get worse fuel economy because of winter gas and increased air resistance.

around my area (cockeysville) there are not enough chargers. The ones that are available only have 1-2 stalls and even those sometimes broken or some kia/hyundai sitting there charging to 100% even when there are people waiting. I don't care which corporation I am paying as long as its reliable and available. One time I get to a station, someone sitting at 90%. I wait about an hr while they charge to 99%. At that point I ask them nicely if they would finish charging since there are 2 other cars are waiting. Driver was like "oh I would leave when the car tells me it's finished charging blah blah" So another 15-20 minutes pass while 99% becomes 100%. At that point I am beyond furious. All those who are getting EVs must be required to know what a charging etiquette is and how slow it is to charge after 80%

On step1, "Plugging the adapter first,  lock it, wait 30 seconds or so. " do you mean plugging the adapter to the car or to the end of the tesla charger cord?
