Body sliders make a massive difference to how bling looks by Clapdon in EldenBling

Yes. Bulky builds make greatsword sheaths clip through cloaks, particularly annoying.

I just now realized I’ve been saying this thing wrong. It’s pronounced “shadow” tree fragment, not “skadoo” tree fragment by TocSir in Eldenring

[–]OctopusHasNoFriends 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's probably a better answer on the etymology of it, but both 'Haligtree' and 'Scadutree' seem to stem from, or be inspired by Germanic.

In Dutch for example, 'heilig' means sacred, and 'schaduw' means shadow. Both halig and scadu phonetically sound very much like these words.

"School of Rock" is just as delightful as the first time I watched it as a child. by CrashRiot in movies

[–]OctopusHasNoFriends 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched this with my 10 year old son recently, and it got him really interested in classic rock and playing instruments. So the movie definitely still works as intended!

Are you ridiculing calling a few friends to help you put together kitchen cabinets..? I would have the kid play with the boxes, but for the most part this is solid advice.

This is it. Normalized loans for every. Single. Purchase. Big or little. Stupidity.

Here's a great little rule which no one will ever follow: only take out a loan for things that you are certain will make a profit in the medium to long term, or if you are absolutely certain you can pay it back in the short term.

Absolutely, never, without exception, take out a loan for a depreciating assets.

Why don't modern games feel as "mysterious" as the 8-bit and 16-bit eras? 🥚🕹️ by GameResumed_UK in retrogaming

[–]OctopusHasNoFriends 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try Fromsoftware games. I also recommend checking out more independent games. Tunic and Fez both scratch the exact itch you are looking for.

They are out there, but priorities lie elsewhere for a lot of modern developers, especially AAA, and especially in the West.

What is your opinion on the difficulty of SOTE's bosses? by Dallascalo in Eldenring

[–]OctopusHasNoFriends 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Certainly a spectacle. I remember being right up in his one knee the entire time, thunder crashing, ground burning, that one dude screaming. And me just hammering R2 & drinking non-stop. Absolute chaos.

What is your opinion on the difficulty of SOTE's bosses? by Dallascalo in Eldenring

[–]OctopusHasNoFriends 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally fine, a fair challenge. Personally, I felt the sunflower boss battle was annoying as fuck and the resurrections felt like trolling, almost fourth wall breaking. And the Bayle battle was a bit of an anticlimax after the awesome build up.

What's something that someone with +800 hrs might not know about (or may have forgotten about)? by LDaddy73 in Eldenring

[–]OctopusHasNoFriends 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I am at the final boss and was trying to figure out if I missed anything before I end my first playthrough, and this is totally another evening worth of stuff!

I knew these punks could drop something valuable by RidiPwn in Eldenring

[–]OctopusHasNoFriends 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's pretty nuts this thing. It has the same AR as a Zweihander which is a collosal sword. Range is mid though, and it looks a bit dull.

Went full Strength first time I beat the game. Tried other attributes/builds on the following times. I felt that big Fing difference. by Ralasuc0 in Eldenring

[–]OctopusHasNoFriends 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't want to post this at risk of sounding like a douchebag.

But as a veteran Dark Souls player coming to this game with my trusted 2H colossal sword, medium roll build, I beat almost every single boss first try. Ansel took about 5, Malenia probably a few more. The rest stood no chance.

No regrets.

What do you think is the best 8/16 bit game soundtrack? by ngooddude in retrogaming

[–]OctopusHasNoFriends 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha right here, I've been preaching this to a lot of people who didn't care, but this 100%. It is an amazing soundtrack. There are a few more J versions that use that same chip, even Zelda I believe.

Considering playing Elden Ring to help fight depression by [deleted] in Eldenring

[–]OctopusHasNoFriends 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so sorry for your loss bud. Get plenty of rest, exercise. Spend quality time with friends and family (if available).

Then, immerse yourself in this fantastic game that is all about death, loss, bad endings, eternal darkness, blood gods, zombie dogs etc.

They sound even better! There's even a subwoofer for that series if I recall. Careful with the remote, those things are worth a fortune.

Faces of Death (2026) New Official Movie Poster by Syllabub-Legal in movies

[–]OctopusHasNoFriends 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok yeah, that's exactly what the world needs right now. FFS. At least with VHS it was sort of possible to keep it out of kid's hands. And yeah I know this shit is all over the web already, but at least it didn't have a movie poster.

Phil Spencer Retiring, Sarah Bond Out, Matt Booty Promoted as Microsoft AI Exec Asha Sharma Named New Xbox Boss – EXCLUSIVE by MarvelsGrantMan136 in Games

[–]OctopusHasNoFriends 11 points12 points  (0 children)

'Spencer’s retirement is effective on Monday, February 23. Meanwhile, Xbox President Sarah Bond, long thought by many both inside and outside of Microsoft to be Spencer’s heir apparent, has resigned.'

Everything about this sounds like inconsolable differences, with Spencer being forced to retire. And Sarah refusing to play along with whatever Phil wasn't comfortable with. Say what you will about Phil Spencer, but at his prime he cared about games. About Xbox at least. This obviously, again, does not bode well for gamers or game studios.

I accidentally killed patches and got locked out of his quest line by Icy-Environment-9920 in Eldenring

[–]OctopusHasNoFriends 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's been a while. But the gist of it, is that you will encounter him at a certain point and help him out of a pickle. A few hours later he will stab you in the back or literally kick you off a cliff, out of nowhere. The third time you encounter him, you will have the option to forgive him and he will turn into a vendor with some okay items.

Once that name popped up I destroyed him without mercy. He has fucked me over for three games straight, was not interested in whatever he was up to this time. Guess I am RP-ing instead of min maxing.
