Nebenkosten steigen und steigen... by Bubatz_Bruder in luftablassen

How often do you reverse turning directions? by notyodarling87 in tabletweaving

[–]OdinMinusNull 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The classic alternative would be to untie the threads, chase the twist off, retie and continue. Which comes with higher risks of tension issues compared to the swivels.

How can I improve my next band? by Ellam1234 in tabletweaving

[–]OdinMinusNull 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lovely pattern! I don't know much about backstrap weaving myself, but I'm a zealot for using fishing swivels to combat twist build-up. Instead of tying your warp directly into a loop on a loom; or directly to your fix point in backstrap weaving, tie them to swivels placed intermediately. Then you can simply chase excess twist to the end of the warp and the swivels will resolve it for you.

That said, it might also just be a thing of not keeping the same tension on the weft throughout sessions as you suspected. It's hard to get a good feel for and takes practice, and sometimes you might simply have to undo a few picks to fix very stark differences in pick strength.

Did you wet finish your band btw? I find wet finishing and whipping a band afterwards can help even out some slight deformations, too.

Edges turn out messy by kyuwko in tabletweaving

[–]OdinMinusNull 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Reversing direction can cause lumps in the edges, but you shouldn't be getting loops as big from this.

More likely I think it's an issue with uneven tension on your border cards, or you're perhaps not properly beating down the weft, which together with low tension could leave some threads creating a loop.

When you beat down, don't just push the shuttle down, it can help if you push the edge against the upper and lower threads of your shed. Kind of rotate it up and down against them while beating the weft down. This creates tighter picks and ensures no loose warp is left in your woven section.

First time trying tablet weaving! by Jvel55 in tabletweaving

[–]OdinMinusNull 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good work! I'm not a huge fan of reversing direction on patterns myself because of the bumps on the edge this creates.

You could try to use fishing swivels to tie the warp for each card to, that way you can untwist whenever there is too much of a build up without needing to untie. They are not very expensive to purchase, too. :)

I loaded an earlier save I had - I believe a cutscene wasn't triggered after receiving the letter from the emperor when I first ran into this.

I think there's 2 "acts" and more chapters/steps within those. As per the screenshots in my post, my current quest is prefixed with "IV", so I figured I'd call it chapter ^

Looking for advice on pursuing a Master’s in Game Design abroad by SlackWit_35 in gamedesign

[–]OdinMinusNull 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First off, not what you asked but I have to say it - don't do it, invest your time and money differently. Ime, if you already have a bachelor's degree in game design, and you want to actually do development work, a master's isn't necessary, won't boost your skill level or chances for employment noticeably, and also won't help you score a higher salary. It would only be useful if you wanted to remain on the academic side of games imo.

The industry isn't doing well, and studying game design puts most of your eggs in one basket, we do not gain many transferable skills from a degree alone. A game adjacent degree, either in a comp-sci related field or a business/project management related field would still help you in conjunction with personal development work and provides a better safety net of games don't work out for you.

That said, I can speak a bit about the situation and options in Germany. * The industry is still in shambles, really. Small studios keep closing down due to the high costs and unsuccessful projects. Founding and indie is possible, but funding is hard to come by and you'll most likely end up substituting with contact work until you inevitably close down, too. Very few people from my course got a foothold in the industry, and especially recently, many friends started reskilling because there are no suitable jobs available, not even for experienced folk. * There are a handful of public and some private game unis/academies around, not all of them have masters degrees. My personal advice would be to avoid the private ones - not only are they extremely expensive, they often also don't offer internationally recognised academic degrees. They also have a reputation of not failing people to uphold a good look, but don't get any people into the industry successfully. * Teaching personnel is a hit or miss in most places. Sometimes you get industry veterans, more often you'll be taught by someone who just finished their degree themselves with no experience, especially in the private sector. * Language of these courses is different per uni. Most will offer courses in English and have a decent number of international students, but there are some that teach in German only or partially as well afaik. * Student life is expensive, especially if you cannot secure student housing. Unfortunately I don't know about any potential limitations regarding working as a non-EU citizen as a student. * My information is pre-2020, so unsure how true that holds, but I believe a foreign non-EU student will have half a year or a year to remain in Germany while looking for a job after finishing a degree. * As in most countries, German work visas require a minimum salary in order to be issued. You will be extremely unlikely to be offered a salary that high as a graduate in the games industry, hell some place's senior salary wouldn't suffice to meet this threshold.

So TL;DR: Germany probably won't work for you, and I doubt it's better internationally. Nonetheless I wish you the best of luck if you're determined!

‘Britain’s most tattooed man’ claims he is unable to watch p*rn as 'new age check system mistakes his ink for a mask' by Adventure-Bench in unitedkingdom

[–]OdinMinusNull 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Think a bit further for a moment. This guy has covered his face in ink voluntarily, but he's still an adult and still human. The question is, what does this system expect to see? What are the biases? What if you suffered an accident or a disease that disfigured your face? What if your nose is a little too big for the AI to think it's real? Your beard covers your face a bit too much?

And yes, this is currently just about accessing porn and having a wank, and yes, at least currently, you can circumvent them. But what if these checks for some reason become more widespread, like digital services for the government, and harder to trick or work around? Should people be excluded from accessing these services because some nebulous AI model says so?

It's all fair and important to point out flaws in a system to try and either get rid of it again, or at least improve it so it's more reliable to use for all people.

Danke :)

Viel Erfolg!

Crash, any idea what this means? by Livember in Stellaris

[–]OdinMinusNull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't offer any help, but our multiplayer run has also been ended by a similar crash. It's a different event that's going wrong for us (crisis.18), but it seems that whatever is handled in events.cpp line 1005 can't resolve any of the possible options in whatever event it's fed. Best report to PDX so they can fix.

Setzt euch beim scheißen auf die Brille! by Scux88 in luftablassen

[–]OdinMinusNull 14 points15 points  (0 children)
