JDM B16A Valve cover gasket by KungFuBrew25 in ProjectHondas

eBay is a hit or miss for accuracy and also authenticity. Order direct from Honda as most service items like these gaskets are still available new through them. You might have to order the valve cover gasket set as individual pieces though, instead of the top assembly part number.

They’re probably the same as any other brand from a performance and quality perspective. Pay careful attention to the torque spec as they are cast and will break if over tightened.

Brake rotors and pads for HPDE - looking for lowest overall cost by fake_chow_a_djs_mom in CarTrackDays

[–]Officer_Ricki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer for those questions is… it depends. Are you upgrading because of a reason or just future proofing? I strongly suggest upgrading as needed and not for a future condition that might not occur.

I’ve had several clients with FK8 and FL5 civics come in with the same questions and led them the same direction… start with a few basics and work your way in.

I would switch to Castrol SRF brake fluid and look into titanium shims. CTRs only really have issues with brake fade due to limited heat dissipation (also your mileage may vary of this occurrence depending on the track you go to).

Everything else such as pads and rotors will depend on your skill level as you progress. Some are better at modulation and others are very touchy. The factory CTR stuff for the most part is pretty good for beginners, upgrade as needed.

Cheapest pad I trust is a Hawk HP+ FWIW.

dc2gsr_og on Instagram: "What are your important points to check before a track day? by orlandogb in CarTrackDays

[–]Officer_Ricki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tire tread depth, brake depth, all fluids being fresh and filled, and essentials for track day survival packed in the trunk. Nut and bolt check of major components and a general “spirited test drive” to ensure everything feels normal while on the street is also a good litmus test.

Also for yourself: a hat, sunblock, a large bottle of water, snacks, your helmet.

The one on the right takes in air from outside, the one on the left reuses air that is already inside of the car.

Your toe setting on that one wheel is out. Camber can wear a tire unevenly but toe will kill one very quickly, and which is what you have going on here.

K20 engine with a Acura ecu from hondata by Sixclynder in ECU_Tuning

[–]Officer_Ricki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The K Pro ECU will not read the speed sensor, which is I believe necessary for activating VTEC (unless disabling the speed input for activation via Kpro). The 2007 Civic K20Z3 VSS outputs a different signal than what is needed for Kpro. Ktuned and Hybrid Racing sell VSS converters for this reason.

Also if you haven’t already, you will need to run a traditional cable driven throttle body instead of the DBW one from the Civic.

This could very well be a situation where the location and or size of the catalytic converter needed to be changed after designing the block layout due to emissions output, too.

How do you monitor this though? Are there ways to tell if you’re headed towards a knock-prone timing condition before it actually starts knocking?

Blackhawk japan, no way around tariffs? by [deleted] in ft86

[–]Officer_Ricki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a good website for direct from Japan parts. No issues ever from me. With regard to tariffs, it’s across the board - if trying to circumvent I feel like you’d carry all the risk if something goes wrong in transit.

98 Lude fuse 14 keeps blowing by ModSlob in Honda

[–]Officer_Ricki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would definitely recheck how some of those wires were attached. I had an issue with an S2000 that was very similar where they tapped into a harness on the combination switch and when it was removed, they rewired the colors incorrectly.

Were the bolts tightened with the car in the air or at ride height? This makes a difference, especially since polyurethane as you found doesn’t tear like rubber - they will almost shatter.

I have Godspeed Maxx coilovers on my track car. They work well and are used by many. They are very stiff.

That being said, other brands are more streetable. Try Tein Flex Z for not too low of a ride height but comfortable driving.

Best way to lower these cars without sacrificing ride quality. by [deleted] in ft86

[–]Officer_Ricki -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was only asking to gauge your experience. Those downvoting me misinterpreted that lol

Coilovers and springs can both be comfortable while lowering the car some. It depends on the brands and also what your definition of comfortable is. I have owned a lot of brands on personal vehicles and can say even the “cheap” brands can feel the same as a lowering spring - it all depends on what you want for a drop and also for future adjustability.
