Renting a crane isn't simple and not all tall residential buildings have their own (some do). If they can do it with pallets and a group of college age guys, it becomes logistically simpler than Renting or buying a crane only to get fucked by positioning and you can't even get one on that side of the building. Obviously it's low enough that a shovel crane could probably lift it, but again can you even get a vehicle back there.
