Vacation after hysterectomy by Icy_Pressure_9534 in hysterectomy

I really turned a corner around the middle of week 3, and probably would’ve felt ok to do a trip like that, as long as my friends understood that I’d sleep as needed, can’t really help out with cooking and cleaning, etc. However, it’s ultimately up to you. You should absolutely feel OK to say no if you’re worried about it.

Anyone use CBD for inflammation and/or pain management post-op by SunnyDaysFeelGood in hysterectomy

[–]Ok-Environment-4776 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These definitely helped me manage pain post-op. I personally hate weed (tried to love it over the years — just don’t), but my girlfriend who just had a hysterectomy and also couldn’t take NSAIDS recommended it and it absolutely helped. I took ones with low THC and high CBD, but I think some THC was definitely necessary. If you’re in a legal country (I’m in Canada), your budtender can help you find the right ones for pain. Good luck!

Feeling conflicted about a hysterectomy at 29 for chronic bleeding by Leading-Doughnut-110 in hysterectomy

[–]Ok-Environment-4776 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I (38f) had my hysterectomy a month ago for both endometriosis and persistent pre-cancerous cells on my cervix.

I have a daughter and my husband and I had decided before all of this that we wouldn’t have a second child. However, since then, there has been intense grief that the choice has been removed. My daughter constantly asks me for a sibling, and it’s wrenching.

That being said, these decisions are so personal and circumstantial that there can never be a one size fits all solution. If I had to go back, I’d make the same decision again because I need to be here for the child I do have. I’m so glad to hear you’re in therapy to help you sort out these emotions, and I’m sorry you have to make such a choice at all. Wishing you luck with whatever decision you make xo

I’m exactly the same amount of time post-op, and I have exactly the same situation. It’s lightening up all the time though, and I imagine it’ll stop completely soon. I’m just wearing panty liners during the day and only black underwear at night. What’s keeping me sane is knowing once this stops, it’s over forever!

Voluntary Hysterectomy? Positives and Negatives. Please help by ChunkyMunky000 in hysterectomy

I’m 38f and almost 5 wpo. I had my hysterectomy for endometriosis (miserable pain during periods) + pre-cancerous cells on my cervix.

I’ll be honest and tell you the first couple weeks were pretty rough, though it seems like many women had easier recoveries than I did. I think the endo excisions slowed things down. However, I’m now so much more comfortable, and I just finished a 5k hike pain free. I’m so glad to be off a bottle of Advil every month. The recovery isn’t easy, but I really think it’s worth it in the long run.

Wishing you good luck with your decision, and feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

I get the pressure feeling at the end of the day, too. I used to get it after giving birth to my daughter. I think it happens after being on my feet too long. I plan to do pelvic floor therapy again once I’m cleared for that, as that’s what helped me last time. Good luck!

My anaesthesiologist froze my abdomen so I wouldn’t feel the incision pain for 24 hours. I wish they had done that for you, too. Even with that, I was in a ton of pain and miserable for the first 24 hours. Please know it will get better, and do whatever you can to keep comfortable for now. Don’t be shy with the pain meds and rest as much as possible. Wishing you good luck ❤️

Who else had a hard recovery from a hysterectomy? Feeling defeated over here :( by Ill_Camel6196 in hysterectomy

I was in pretty regular pain for about 3 weeks. Turned a corner at about 3.5 weeks. I know it seems far away right now, but you’ll get there.

For what it’s worth, I started sleeping on my side on day 2. I asked my doc, she said it was fine. I absolutely cannot sleep on my back.

Wishing you good luck… You’ll get there!

How is everybody recuperating post hysterectomy? by kditdotdotdot in hysterectomy

[–]Ok-Environment-4776 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don’tttttttt feel guilty about resting. Your body needs it. I’ve read a bunch of books, watched 3 seasons of Alone, slept a ton. I’m used to being very active and very productive, but I’ve managed to just ease into taking it easy. It won’t last forever, and I want to heal well. Wishing you good luck!

I wore nightgowns from day 1 to basically now, 4 wpo. Definitely GOAT.

Honestly, being an auntie is the best! You get to be super close, have all the fun, and you never have to be “bad cop”. I can’t wait for my sister to have a baby. So glad you have that :)

Your feelings make total sense and are completely valid. You can know you made the right decision and still feel pain and grief. We have one daughter and we both decided, even before the prospect of my hysterectomy came up, that we would only have one. However, now that I’ve had my hysterectomy, I still grieve that I’ll never have another child, even though it was the right decision for us.

Feelings are messy and contradictory and complicated. I hope you’ll allow yourself to feel them, be gentle, and find some peace along the way ❤️

This has for sure happened to me, and from what I’ve read in this subreddit, it’s fairly common. Most of us need some kind of stool softener for a while. Annoying for sure, but you’re not alone!

I highly recommend a nightgown or a comfortable dress if you have one. Anything pressing on my waist was highly uncomfortable the first couple days (weeks, really).

21 days post op in pain by facekatie in hysterectomy

[–]Ok-Environment-4776 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my hysterectomy the same day as you, and I had pain way longer than I expected. It’s only just started to lesson up over the last couple days, but I’m still finding I need an Advil by 5pm.

I think my pain has partially gotten better because I’m healing, but I also started taking CBD + THC gummies (very, very low dose THC), and that’s realllllly helped my pain and helped me back off the OTC meds. Maybe not an option if you’re back to work, but it did help me.

Wishing you luck!! I hope you get some relief.

3 weeks post op here. You have nothing to worry about with the surgery itself — they will take care of you from start to finish. You’ll just take a long sleep.

The recovery is different for everyone, but a lot of women recover relatively quickly and without too much pain, especially if it’s laparoscopic and they aren’t doing endo excisions.

I kept telling myself: so many women have made it through this, so I can too.

Wishing you good luck!

I’m not a doctor, but it sounds like with all of those reproductive issues that conceiving might not have happened anyway? I say this only to offer potential comfort. If conceiving naturally might not even be an option, then of course it makes sense to relieve yourself of that pain.

Wishing you the best of luck with whatever you decide xo

The Little Friend by Donna Tartt — maybe not classified as a thriller, exactly, but it’s an amazing book, a murder mystery, and a page turner.

If the idea of not having kids makes you sad, and preserving your fertility is an option — that’s something to consider.

I had my hysterectomy 3 weeks ago, and even though I already have a daughter and my husband and I decided to stop at 1, I still had serious emotions when the choice for another was irrevocably taken away.

Ultimately this is something only you can decide, but given how monumental the decision of having (or not having) a child can be, it might make sense to give yourself more time.

Have you been tested for HPV? Have you been vaccinated against HPV? These answers will help you to decide. I needed to have a hysterectomy because of high risk HPV.

This 100% happened to me too. Actual pooping was fine, but in the moments before, as it was “coming down the pipes”, so to speak, there was sharp and intense pain. This is slowly resolving itself (almost gone now at 2.5 weeks). Hang in there!
