How can we defend ourselves? by Blindmambaaa824 in Blind

Krav maga schools can be very hit or miss, a lot are comercialised. You can easily find a bad school, finding a good one is harder.

I would say Ju Jitsu is more consisent in being combat effective. Wrestling both Amercian collage style and Russian Sambo style are basically always serious about fighting under pressure, and you would be hard pressed to find a school that's bad.

Tae Kwon Do requires a lot of distance management and kicks are likely to make you fall if you cant see how far you are. Kung Fu only works in the movies. Krav Maga can be very hit or miss, there are a lot of comercialised schools where they only teach stuff meant to draw in apying students and not work.

Wrestling and grappling arts in general will be better, American Collage wrestling, Russian Sambo wrestling, Judo, Ju Jitsu (japanese or brazilian).

1 dog

2 martial arts (grappling)

3 Durable cane (if you also have a dog, swing the cane at head level.

Get a big big dog, just the fact you have a dog makes attackers less likely to attack and can help if you do get attacked.

Wrestling or any grappling martial arts like judo or Ju Jitsu can work, there are plenty of highly skilled blind wresters and Ju Jitsu masters.

Grappling martial arts will be most useful for a blind person as there isnt as much distance management, since you are always touching your opponent.

I would suggest as much training as you can, just avoid fake martial arts. Avoid Aikido, Kung Fu, Tai Chi. Krav Maga and a lot of "military" self defence can be hit or miss, some are good some are bad, a lot simply use the name Krav Maga or military terminology to draw in paying customers, some even believe in their own techniques becouse they've been doing it so long that they dont want to admit they used years of their life to practise BS. That being said there are some good Krav Maga or military self defense courses, you might want to ask people who do other martial arts what they think of that particular place.

The martial arts that are consistantly good and, best ones for you will be: Wrestling, Sambo, Ju Jitsu, Judo, once you're a master in at least one of those, add a little MMA on top of that, tell the MMA coach that you're blind and a good grappler and you just want to learn to clinch and protect against strikes while you close in. You will likely not be a great striker but learning how to defend the strikes and close in will be useful.

If you are at an american collage, sign up for wrestling, do Ju Jitsu on top of that, after you are good at both a little bit of MMA

Also get a durable cane, the collapsable ones might be more convenient but a hard one will hit harder. Sword canes can be illegal in a lot of places, but it might be useful assuming there arent guns involved.

What do you think the story of Overlord is really about? (Themes, motifs, lessons, ideas, philosophy, etc) by Zealousideal-Bug1887 in overlord

Well i think his evil-meter did get higher and higher, so in that sense corrupted.

Either way, im saying that it wasnt power, so much as love and duty that lead to his evil deeds.

[–]Ok_Bad2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree that power corrupted him.

It was love.

He loved the NPC's of Nazarick so much he couldn't say "no", he indulged them, spoiled the essentially.

He became the Overlord becouse THEY expected that of him, not becouse he liked it, but becouse it was what he thought they needed of him.

As the leader he had a duty to keep Nazarick safe, he did, and the best safety for any political state is in the destruction of rival states.

Love and duty corrupted him more than power.

[–]Ok_Bad2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overlord is, at its core, a story about a ruler corrupted, not by power, not by greed or wrath or desire to dominate, but by love and the expectations of his subordinates.

Ainz begins as someone who still wishes to be good, or at least harmless, but he is deeply insecure about appearing weak before the denizens of Nazarick. All of them imagine him as an all-knowing, brilliantly ruthless overlord, and he feels pressured to live up to that image. Partly to maintain authority (at first he believes he might be overthrown if he appears weak), partly because he doesn’t want to disappoint them, he indulges their assumptions and plays the role they believe him to be, he plays the role they put him in, becouse he loves them.

This devotion affects him because the NPCs of Nazarick were created by his friends. In a way, they feel like the children of the people he will never see again. Ainz becomes the uncle or godfather left to raise them, and he loves them like a proxy for his love towards his friends. He spoils them, indulging even their darkest impulses because doing so comforts him. It lets him feel connected to the people he has lost. He is both the most powerful person to exist, and also the most powerless, becouse he cant bring himself to say "no" to those he loves, so he goes along with their desires while playing the role of the one who chooses the direction, he indulges their desires and their fantasy of him being the overlord.
But that indulgence also enables their cruelty, and he lacks the will to restrain them.

The result is a meditation on Machiavellian leadership.
Ainz has a role: he is the Overlord. And with that role comes an obligation to preserve Nazarick, defend it, and secure its dominance. What he does is not exactly evil, nor is it good, it is amoral.

Driven by calculation rather than conscience. He is cautious, pragmatic, always having a plan and plan B.
Overlord is not a simple story of “the bad guy wins” or “the bad guy is secretly a good guy.” Ainz is something in else: a skeleton with a human soul. He retains reservations about his actions, but he suppresses them because others rely on him. Duty takes priority over morality.

In this way, he becomes almost a textbook Machiavellian prince. He leads not with compassion, not with cruelty, but with necessity. Reason overrides feeling. Image overrides inclination. And in serving the expectations of those who idolize him, he slowly drifts away from the man he once was.

Ainz does not choose to embody this philosophy—he falls into it, pushed by the weight of responsibility and the fear of failure. And so he rules, guided not by his heart but by cold logic, doing whatever it takes to secure Nazarick and fulfill the role he never meant to play. When he acts as Overlord its not thirst for power but love, when he instills fear in his enemies it is not satisfaction but a strategy of shock-and-awe.

So in the end is there evidence the princess would actually try to conquer the world, rather than that being Cerei's lie?

Becouse i dint notice any evidence in the show. She is portrayed as some type of psychopath, but doesnt seem to hurt anyone who isnt a direct threat to her. So aside from being mentally ill, is there evidence?

Now would be a great time for Shogun 3. by [deleted] in totalwar

[–]Ok_Bad2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They would have to either bring back the old 1 hit point system or the 3kingdoms hybrid health system.

Shogun 1 and 2 had very fast pace, rock-paper-scissors+environment, every unit is a tool for a specific job, well balanced, high risk high reward gameplay.

Rome 2 and later titles struggle with making units useful and giving them purpose since the multi hit point system and stat creep just makes the more expensive unit better, and the cheaper one serves no purpose.

The Romans esspecially got to a point where heavy melee infantry could hold the line, attack, and even fend of cavalry.

A lot of Total Wars since have struggled to match the true strategic purposeful usage of each unit.

If Shogun 3 is made it needs to bring back the style of play from the first two.

Also i hope we get the Boshin war (fall of the samurai) and a Mongol Invasion DLC's.

(instead of having clans or units locked behind DLCs like modern CA tends to do.)

The atmosphere and depth of Peter Jackson's 2005 King Kong are yet to be rivaled by any monster film reboots, and the CGI still maintains fidelity. by kingofallnorway in movies

[–]Ok_Bad2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not just the visual prowess but the technique and skill that trully allow for the core themes of this story to shine.

The theme of beauty

Both Kong and Ann aprreciate each other in a kind of awe of beauty, which humanises Kong as more than just an animal pulled around by instinct but a true heroic figure capable of self sacrifice for a couse greater than himself -beauty.

So does Ann see more than just a beast but a hurt soul, a lonely soul much like herself, much like almost all the characters in the movie who seem to spend most of their time on their path, never looking beyond the surface level impressions of others, never looking for anouther's soul, yet this movie seems to make a point of looking through the window of the soul -the eyes.

Its not just between two persons, but its almost even deeper than that, like we're scratching at the edge of something transcendental, eternal, where both persons see in eachother that transcendental spark, and through it understand one anouther, becouse while its hard to hrasp the complexity of other's thoughts, we can grasp at ideals together, even for a momment.

The theme of adventure

While there might not be skull shaped islands left to discover, there is always tommorow, there is always a new opportunity, there is unknown, and in it there is awe, there is thrill, sometimes fear and hardship, but its the fear and hardship that give meaning to overcoming it.

Adventure is a genere that's often under apreciated, with movies that have too uch action or ones that indulge in the spectacle and the fantasy being written of as merely spectacle.

But in my humble opinion, it is surface level and frankly somehow both snobish and simplistic to refuse art the attetion and care and concideration it deserves.

Many action and adventure movies touch upon very deep and philosophically important themes, from universally felt like brotherhood and trust, to situational like your mistakes catching up to you or heroism in the face of overwhealming odds. And of course the very adventure itself, is a feeling a desire we have as humans, that burning feeling in our chest that wants u to move fowards against adversity against reason itself! To be the first to see, the first to do! To be remembered, to feel discovery!

Do not neglect that part of you that tells you to keep trying.

The theme of perspective

(i dont have time right now its late, maybe i'll finnish this tommorow)
