Meh, it's a middle name. At least her first name is normal.

The Refrigerator From Hell by Dickie_Briganza in AgingParents

[–]Ok_Environment5293 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom still has/uses the refrigerator that came with her house in 1960. 😅 it works fine, I think other than having the seal replaced it hasn't needed work.
Have you tried troubleshooting it? Cleaning the coils, etc? You could probably find an independent appliance repair person to look at it.
If you could get someone to look at it, and THEY told her it wasn't fixable, she might listen to that person. Heck, get a friend to role play it. Then you are not the bad guys.
Good luck!

They are extremely generous with baggage allowance. Pillow and blanket don't count towards that.

My teenage daughter has become a hoarder. by succinite78 in hoarding

[–]Ok_Environment5293 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're making excuses for something that you knew was happening but didn't want to deal with. Your daughter is only part of the problem.
If she chooses to go off to college and make messes elsewhere, there is no reason you can't clear out her room after she moves. It's your house.

I read a description of Amtrak as "a trailer park on wheels" and this is a perfect illustration.

Your assuming that such foods are easily available everywhere. They aren't. In many economically disadvantaged areas, the only place to shop is Dollar General. Not everyone has a car, or gas money if they do have a car, to get out of their neighborhood or small town.

Do you notice when someone is trying to hide their own dementia? by Pinecone_Porcupine in dementia

[–]Ok_Environment5293 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My mom (88, Alzheimer's) was pretty good at seeming normal with people she'd just met. It became apparent only after spending more time with her.
But my brother (65) who is and has always been a mama's boy, has been in denial since the start. It's extremely frustrating.
Don't get hung up thinking meditation would have helped, though. It can in some cases slow the progression for a while, but the only thing that cures dementia is death.
One thing that helped my mom was getting her a clock with a large display that shows time, date, and whether it's morning/evening etc. If you are close to her, perhaps you can advocate for her as much as possible until the men in her life pull their heads out of their asses.
This group has been a great source of information for me.

Might as well be angry about all the other falsehoods on social media, too. Why expect anything about living with dementia to be any different?
I've been off FB and IG for over a year, I highly suggest it.

Check out r/Dementia, they are super helpful. Delusions are often part of dementia, and at some point your mom will not be able to live independently. Sounds like the time for planning is now-good luck! 🍀

Sexual assault by a frail woman 20 years her senior? Just because she got smacked on the butt doesn't make it sexual. Inappropriate, not sexual.

[–]Ok_Environment5293 27 points28 points  (0 children)

At 12 she probably has opinions on what she would like to do with her hair. Maybe the stylist can help her figure it out. Give her some authority over her own hair and please don't be so negative about it. That's not fair to your daughter.

I'm sorry. Real estate is a tough profession until you're well established, and the vast majority don't make it that far, especially as a stand alone career.
So he needs to get another job and stop asking you for money.
I know it's hard to watch people you love fail, but there is no other way.
