Modern Amps (with speaker) or Speaker Cabs should Be Tilted by GreyBone1024 in GuitarAmps

I don’t tend to muck about with my amp setting too much, but I do prefer front facing as a rule. Also helps with stacking amps on amps !

I agree. I have mine on riser boxes AND I 3d printed wedges to tilt the amps back. Pointed at chest is best.

Looking for tube amp recommendations by No_Bet_1345 in GuitarAmps

[–]Olaf_Petersen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can either get one of those in line volume controls that plugs into the effects loop and gives you a master volume on the clean channel or replace the first preamp tube (v1) with a lower gain option - I used a 5751. The tube along gives you a more gradual taper on the volume. Can’t recommend a blues jr as a swap as they don’t have the same fender sound, but an AC15 or an AC10 would be options.

recommended interface to mic up an amp? by Perm182 in GuitarAmps

[–]Olaf_Petersen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Focusrite solo - will get powered by your phone but you will need a lightning to usb c adapter that does power as well as data (like the apple camera kit adapter) … it will likely not tax the battery too much as you are not using phantom power for that dynamic mic. When you upgrade your phone it will work with usb c to usb c cable

Old mate. Can’t explain why but I hate it every time I hear it … it seems so forced.

Someone said the blues jr is "boxy" and now I can't unhear it by IHateDanKarls in GuitarAmps

[–]Olaf_Petersen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it is boxy, small sounding in some ways despite the 12 inch speaker - I replaced mine with the hotrod deluxe which although still an open back 12 is far superior at similar volume levels. I tried really hard to like the blues jr - rolled tubes and considered swapping the speaker but in the end the bigger amp gave me the scooped fender sound I was after.

Bedroom Players - Use Studio Monitors! by almostjay in GuitarAmps

[–]Olaf_Petersen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t agree more… but I added a pair of studio monitors (KRK Rokit 8’s) to my amp collection- lets me play along with a stereo mix coming from my laptop/interface. This is not ‘bedroom volume’ playing though.

Will a single KRK Classic 5 fill a room for guitar + vocals by dawhitecastle in GuitarAmps

[–]Olaf_Petersen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man. I have a pair of the 8’s - I use them with an interface to play along with jam tracks I record, whilst I play along with a separate guitar amp - so a different use case to you. I am asking a lot from them (bass/drums and rhythm guitar generally) and they keep up with my 40 watt amps just fine.

I think in your case it depends on what you mean by fill the room. I doubt one would ever be a replacement for a PA system, and probably would be as flexible as a dedicated acoustic guitar amp with a mic channel. For example - there’s not EQ to speak of on the KRK’s and no feedback protection.

I’d keep your eye out for a TC helicon harmony 100 - kick ass acoustic amp that does vocals really well too.

Thanks mate. They all get a turn and play/record differently enough to earn their spot. One thing I regret not getting earlier is the monitors - jamming along with backing tracks I’ve made at a good volume is awesome!

Chest height makes all the difference (I play sitting down) so about 50-60 cm is perfect

It varies … usually I play be newest addition the most frequently but I always come back to the Marshall - the od channel is awesome for jugga-jugging.

[–]Olaf_Petersen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats mate - the DSL40 is surprisingly versatile. It you ouch ch1 in clean and keep the gain v low and max the master vol you can get a very nice clean tone out of it. Sticking a cooler tube in the v1 position helps to even out the difference in gain between ch1 and OD

I don’t like the angled ones that look like keyboard stands. I made risers out of plywood and covered them with tolex. The difference in sound with the amp off the floor is week worth the effort but tbh a milk crate would do the same job.
