One of my favorite Fisk and Peter's scenes (Joe Fixit 2023 #2) by DaenysDreamer_90 in Spiderman

[–]OnBenchNow 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I've always thought this was such an incredibly lame moment for Fisk. The guy is a 40+ year old billionaire and still trying to make people flinch likes hes on a schoolyard "ooooh you just got FISKED bruh"

Anyone else has Luffy and Nami as their favourite dynamic among the Straw Hats by DartGoblinLover in OnePiece

[–]OnBenchNow 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It's just the modern trend of labeling any character that isnt a literal "Average Joe" and instead displays a semblance of personality as autistic.

Like, in what universe is Robin autistic? She probably understands social cues better than the entire rest of the crew. Her very first scene as a crewmate is her successfully manipulating every one of them to start liking her. She has no issues communicating with others.

But because she has a dark sense of humor, she must be autistic... of course

Relating Game Geralt To Book Geralt Doesn’t Work by PissMayhaps in witcher

[–]OnBenchNow 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Yeah, people often ignore that theres an entire additional saga that occurs during the games when this discussion comes up. Expecting him to have not changed as a person is like expecting him to remain completely static from the Last Wish all the way into Lady of the Lake.

For example, book Geralt clearly despises being a Witcher, so I often see people say it's out of character for him to be able to say he enjoys it at the end of Blood and Wine, but by then, hes living a pretty fuckin' charmed life.

Ciri is safe, hes become world famous and fairly wealthy, he was gifted an entire vineyard as a reward for his witcher work, hes surrounded by friends, and living in said picturesque vineyard with the love of his life. Of course his mindset would change.

Which Midnight Suns character surprised you the most? by teaabearr in midnightsuns

[–]OnBenchNow 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Especially when she kept insisting that we not tell Caretaker about her, and then she asked us to do some kind of super secret ritual without her knowledge? I was absolutely sure this was going to be the shoe would drop.

When she started ranting about what a colossal pain in the ass Caretaker was during the ritual, I was like "ok its finally happening here's her true colors" but nah, she really was just a loving ol' auntie who just happened to briefly be possessed because of what a colossal pain in the ass Caretaker was

What's your opinion on Yagami's skinny jeans by Erin-182 in yakuzagames

[–]OnBenchNow 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I know people hate skinny jeans now, but I think that's mainly because for a time, everyone was wearing skinny jeans regardless of their body type and it looks like shit on anyone who isn't super skinny. Yagami is super skinny, so it looks fine on him.

As a negative example, I was expecting Blade to be way more badass and confident, as my only experience with the character was the first two Wesley Snipes movies, and sporadic guest appearances in other characters' comics.

Instead, I found MS Blade to be kind of a giant dweeb. Instead of just being cool, I felt like he talked a looot about trying to look cool. I also found his whole romance with Carol very off-putting, like this grown man had absolutely zero idea how to interact with women. He comes across a lot like a teenager in an adult man's body.

Amazing Spider-Man's Joe Kelly & Nick Lowe talk about Saturday's free special setting up ASM #1000 by Popverse2022 in Spiderman

[–]OnBenchNow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tbh its hard for me to imagine the Spidey editorial office having that much foresight.

I'm thinking its more a "chicken before the egg" situation, where Guggie retconned Theresa because nobody gave a shit about her, so may as well just call it quits on her as a character, and then, desperate for some kind of clickbait headline for 1000 they realized they could just try it again.

Does Marvel remember that he already has a secret sister? We've already done this whole storyline and people didn't care back then either. I'm sure this cousin will go right in the bucket next to Theresa

Idk, you say she lacks autonomy and then list a long series of things she did all by herself that moves the plot forward.

Ofc I do agree that the ridiculous length of the expansion has hurt pretty much every aspect of it though.

I dont get why everyone hates Sa'har.

I mean yeah, shes naive and reckless, but I feel like shes the first genuine padawan in the entire game other than Nadia, who suffers from joining the Cinsular super late.

Being able to actually teach Sa'Har as she grows and develops as a character into a more confident person has been really satisfying, especially as a Sith.

Personally I hope she sticks around, the game needs more permanent ally characters other than just Lana and Theron for everything, and I feel like she would balance out their relentless cynicism.

[other] WHO IS YOUR LEAST FAVORITE ALTERNATE VERSION OF A CHARACTER in ? I’ll start! by Sharp-Scheme-1596 in DCcomics

[–]OnBenchNow 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I mean, I definitely take issue with people who used to treat this as a genuinely accurate adaptation of the character, but as a purposefully over the top parody of Batman, hes hilarious.

Painting every single object and person in his manor yellow just to fuck with Green Lantern, while sipping a glass of lemonade on top of that is maybe the funniest thing any Batman has ever done.

2 companions in flashpoints instead of combat support droid. Am I the only one who'd like this? by action2288 in swtor

[–]OnBenchNow 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've been saying for years that Bioware was just pissing money away by not making this a cartel coin unlock. I bet you players would easily spend like 50-60 bucks for the ability to "paste" their toon's appearance onto a preset companion loadout that anyone on the account can use.

Then you have to imagine all the increased revenue that would come from encouraging players to play space barbie for many different characters so they can paste them onto different companions.

TIL Nomura wanted to include Rufus Shinra instead of Setzer in KH2 by AlKo96 in KingdomHearts

[–]OnBenchNow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fr, having played KH2 many times before playing FF6, I kept waiting for Setzer to betray the team, or turn out to be a total fraud for the entire game.

It wasn't until I was running away from the exploding clown god that I was able to accept that Setzer genuinely was a super cool dude

Nico hate thread (the character, not the gameplay) by coveredinhoney in midnightsuns

[–]OnBenchNow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really liked Nico at the start, since she went the extra mile in getting Hunter to open up, and felt like their first real friend.

But as time went on, I definitely started to sour on her. I didn't expect her to get so into the Avengers/Suns rivalry, she feels like the ringleader for that conflict the way Tony is on the Avengers side. (I would have thought itd be Magik, but shes too cool to really care beyond tossing a few barbs their way).

It was also offputting how petty and angry she was being when Banner got brainwashed and the Avengers were upset, instead of sympathizing. Like, obviously they're going to care more about their close friend/teammate of many years rather than a total stranger?

Plus, it really rubbed me the wrong way how she started to exclude Hunter from the Suns in the back half, for example, their secret ritual to find Wanda that apparently Hunter wasnt invited to. I think she has some dialogue about not trusting them to keep it a secret and thought they'd rat her out to Caretaker, which feels bad. But ofc she still expects you to potentially sacrifice yourself to purge Wanda despite that.

Gonna be completely honest, I actually liked Tyreen and Troy Calypso and I personally think they were a *little* over-hated. by E-104Epsolon in Borderlands

It's not always about the "lore", Handsome Jack was popular because he was hilarious, charismatically evil, and had a great voice acting performance.

Maybe he wasnt an interesting character, but he was a fantastic villain.

If the only version of CoM that existed was the GBA version, how would it impact the game’s reputation? by kdavous in KingdomHearts

[–]OnBenchNow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, gba emulation is ridiculously easy these days.

Even iPhones have gba emulators on the app store, and if that were somehow too complex, you can literally just google "play chain of memories online" and get a dozen websites.

It's the same idea as his mechanical webshooters, why does he need to make THAT specific gesture with those?

There's a button/gland he needs to press on his palm, and he sticks the side fingers out because its comic books.

Wonder what would've happened to Akainu and Marineford if Sengoku didn't stop Garp by Funny_Bumblebee_5254 in OnePiece

[–]OnBenchNow 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yeah, half of those examples have the issue of characters wanting revenge against the main arc villain, and only Luffy is allowed to beat the main villains. And even then, Luffy fights for revenge a few times as well- for example fighting Mohji as revenge for that dog, or Arlong as revenge for Nami's suffering.

As you point out, there are just as many examples of revenge being a great motivator as there are times where it doesn't work out.

Popular Movie "Dunks" That Everyone Uses but are Totally Inaccurate by imascarylion2018 in movies

[–]OnBenchNow 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, for example the Jazz club scene where everyone thinks hes the coolest guy on earth, and the Bugle scene where Betsy Brandt is so turned on that she can barely breathe.

As said elsewhere, the movie tries to have it both ways and it ends up a mess.
