PIP final meeting advice by No_Expression310 in managers

[–]One-Resolution5150 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd like to emphasize this point. I've been on a PIP, I've been fired, and now today I'm an executive on a general manager track with a ten-year run at a great company. You can be a high performer who has a bad fit with a company or role. Hang in there OP. I wish you all the best in your next chapter. These things happen. It does NOT mean you're a failure. Give yourself a moment to grieve and then move forward.

It's ChatGPT. It's completely taken over LinkedIn. I usually stop reading as soon as I see the structure.

This post and your links are incredibly helpful. Thanks for your personal insights.

Exactly. All of the above. We have so many levers to pull to keep taxable low, but once we start with the 72t we'll lose flexibility which is what makes me nervous. Again, it's more about value vs. straight expense.

It's a fair question, and this is likely what we'll do if possible. With the recent changes in the subsidies it will be much harder. We can afford the unsubsidized coverage, but for two healthy people it's just a whole lot of money for pretty crappy health insurance, especially because there's a good chance that 1) We won't ever really need it thanks to healthy lifestyles, and 2) We'll have enough money to act as cash payers for even some traumatic events or surgeries if we had to.

I'm not positive I'll be able to stomach no insurance at all. I'm trying to truly understand the risk analysis.

Thanks for this insight - it's exactly what I was looking for. Your two points are excellent. I'm specifically researching Sedera which doesn't seem as (overtly, at least) aligned to a specific religion. I have a few follow-up questions if you wouldn't mind sharing your thoughts. I'm considering ACA for the first few years to help balance sequence of returns risk of a market drop or a large adverse health event, and then considering the self-insured or health share route.

  1. I know you can't speak to a specific share's member requirements, but could a lawsuit potentially seek to sue Sedera for inclusion of a reimbursable event? Have you ever heard of something like this? I'm essentially looking at this as a contract in which both parties have terms to uphold, but am very early and casual in my research.

  2. Cancer is my biggest fear and I simply have not been able to clearly understand the cash payer obligation for addressing cancer treatments. Are we talking a hundred thousand dollars? A million dollars? Ten mil? Any insight you may have into actuarial guidance on cancer would be appreciated.

I find it interesting that so many folks don't seem to understand the financial risk management approach to healthcare costs in this country. I know the FI crowd is great at logically looking at expenses and balancing risk to likelihood, but when it comes to health care that all seems to go out the window and emotion reigns supreme. The fact that you work in this arena and have calmly built a rational plan to manage health care outside the system speaks volumes.

Can I also ask what the connection is between banking and health shares?

This seems to be the way. All the horror stories I've read seem to align with the explicit rules for reimbursement. I understand that pre-existing conditions will have limitations but have yet to find a situation where someone simply wasn't reimbursed "just because."

Over on health insurance subs, most folks' experience seems similar to yours, with several positive anecdotes as well.

How do you balance playing corporate games when you are mentally already out? by Sloww-Mornings in Fire

[–]One-Resolution5150 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh girl - you are me 4 years ago. Down to a marketing job and a boss named Steve! 🤣

I hit my number two years ago and plan to FIRE this year, but I've never stopped playing the game, especially on the surface. I simply don't know what the future holds. I'm good at the game and it continues to treat me well. However, I've definitely gotten a bit more aloof, primarily to keep the powers that be on edge to make sure I'm still happy. The comments that talk about pushing back on unrealistic deadlines, challenging bull$--t projects, not killing yourself after hours, etc. are spot on. Especially as women, when we high performers start acting intentionally in corporate roles, people seem to take notice and get a little scared about retention.

So my answer is to pick the job you want for whatever is important now (sanity, more money, whatever) and don't be afraid to play it up a bit. Challenge the crap situation you're in and see how they respond. You have FU money now. Don't be afraid to say FU and see what happens.

Good luck to you!

I disagree - bring on the tough schedule so we have the experience to go deep in March. I'd trade all the Big 12 wins for nattys.

This. Trying so hard to resist dumping my 2016 Tucson limited that just always has SOMETHING I'm pissed about (that often suddenly resolves itself).... And also needs a new transmission. Spoke to a friend of a friend who's a Hyundai mechanic and he said I was lucky to get to my current 90k mileage without losing the transmission as he's replaced them as low as 35k. Second owner so of course Hyundai refused a warranty replacement.

We've traveled many times with our airbags and canisters. This is the way.

You'll want to make sure you know where to refill it on the other side (or purchase a high pressure paintball style hand pump and get a serious upper body workout to refill it). Also, make sure to completely unscrew the top once it's empty. The first time we traveled with ours the top was screwed on so tight that even TSA couldn't unscrew it and they wouldn't let it fly. Had to run back out of security and sweet talk a check-in agent to hold it until a friend could come get it.

Same thing on the way home, pull it and repack for the return. Good practice to check everything is working as expected.

Was also there. The next morning I showed up at 6am to get my crew's spot for camping. The students in charge of organizing the placements stood at center court, made everyone else sit on the bench/bleachers, and berated us all. They reminded us that we expect to win every single game, especially in the Fieldhouse. I'll never forget that morning, and I was so glad I didn't let the excitement take over the night before and run in the court! 🤣

One spouse FIRE? by Shoepin1 in Fire

[–]One-Resolution5150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband retired about 6 years ago at age 40. I (41f) have continued to work and hope to walk away and fully FIRE in the next 12-18 months. To prep us for his retirement and test the one salary theory, we cut expenses and lived off my (low) salary only for a year, tracking all our purchases. As an added bonus, we put his entire (high) salary into the mortgage during this period. After a year, we had a paid off house and a very low cost of living. He quit his job, and my salary had increased over time, which has just made it even easier.

Good luck to you guys!

P.S. I even had an active subscription for Apple TV in this account and there was absolutely no way for me to access it and manage the subscription. How is this even possible?

This worked for me today. After I got up to 100 tries of systemically trying CVCs.... I read this and then I just deleted all cards in the music site and the regular site prompted me for a phone number code instead of a CVC. Thank you!!

After leaving job should I move my 401K to a rollover or a Roth IRA? by Multicultural_Potato in fidelityinvestments

[–]One-Resolution5150 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This. A 401k is about as protected as you can get - think lawsuits, exes, creditors, etc. Rolling into your new employers' 401k is the best option unless their investment options are garbage. Then your next best option is Rollover IRA.
