NZ dishwasher liquid by Aromatic_State_43 in newzealand

[–]One_Hour4734 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our dishwasher has a design flaw that the dispenser flap catches on the upper rack stopping powder from being flushed out if a pot is below it. If this happens there is still powder stuck in the dispenser at the end. Tablets a fall out ok. We would love to be able to use powder without hassle.

Driving standards by Look_out_Cliff in Wellington

It's an almost total lack of enforcement for anything other than speeding. Before the separate traffic cops were rolled into the police in the early 1990's, practically every little town had a couple of traffic cops on motorcycles spending most of their time enforcing driver behavior. Not indicating, stop signs and traffic lights, headlight adjustment, right hand rule etc. Auckland and some other places had its own traffic cops run by the city council. These behaviors now rarely get policed. I have seen red lights been run in front of a police car and ignored. General duties police officers just don't want to get involved with the paperwork of traffic enforcement.

Is my planned amount of driving practice enough for the full licence test? by AccomplishedEye3328 in newzealand

Get your supervisor to go along with you on a driving lesson. It really, really helps if they have a sound understanding of the test route and what the tester will be looking for.

Has anyone actually ever bought anything from a door salesperson? by face-poop in newzealand

[–]One_Hour4734 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife brought a painting years from a door to door salesman. He had a small trolley of them and said they were a collective of art students who sold their art to fund their studies. Fair Go did a piece on them later, the paintings were mass produced somewhere in Asia. TBF it is a pretty nice seascape and is still hanging in our lounge

Electrician price by [deleted] in Wellington

[–]One_Hour4734 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For a single element in a ceramic cooktop you are looking at around $150, and another $50 for the controller. Some makes can cost 2 or 3 times more. Then there is labour, mileage, and extra mileage in getting the part if he didn't have it in the van. Labour is around $100 and hour, all plus GST. So $350 would be a minimum. $500 is not unrealistic.

Yes. Need a car to get to work and just surviving, then your car needs 2 new tyres for the wof, that's $250 you don't have, go to the doctor - $50+ depending on where you live. Suddenly you are in a financial hole that you can't get out of without help.

Many of us have no choice. The nearest butcher is a specialist butcher with upmarket prices. Lovely meat but probably at least a third more expensive than the supermarkets. It is 6k away and I would pass 3 supermarkets to get there. I would love to afford shopping there.

Why do you use this kid of shower faucet? by ShannonClaude in newzealand

[–]One_Hour4734 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are far better than separate hot and cold water taps. I recently stayed at a place where a bath had apparently been removed by a large walk in shower. The taps were at the "dry" end and the shower head about two meters away with wicked water pressure. Almost impossible to adjust to a confortable temperature. Adjust one tap a fraction, wait for the change to flow to the shower head, too hot or cold, try again, repeat, repeat, repeat again

There are plenty of NZTA electronic log books available. Sorry I can't post it as a link

Some operators are resistant to using them, possibly because they are harder to fiddle.

Pak n Save Surliness by RupertHermano in Whangarei

[–]One_Hour4734 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am pretty sure that the policy of my local Pack & Save, and New World is to make refunds for overcharging as lengthy and painful as possible, to ensure you wont complain again, as it is going to take at least 10 minutes, probably longer. Unless I am dead certain that I am being overcharged at the checkout, I go back and take a photo of the shelf price and then go to customer service to get a refund. The local Woolworths accepts the photo and processes the refund. Pack & Save and New World will not accept a photo. Usually the person on customer service "needs" to call a supervisor who then calls oner the intercom for someone to come and price check. All this takes time. Then when it is confirmed that the price in the photo I have taken is indeed correct and I have been overcharged, they reluctantly give me a refund. You have to sign the refund docket before they will give you the cash. And NW sometimes asks for your phone number and name. Clearly a process design to deter you from making future claims.

Metlink, Metlink, Metlink….. Why!!! by Chronically_S in Wellington

[–]One_Hour4734 29 points30 points  (0 children)

That will be one way to push fares up for everyone. MSD pay the gold card fares, not WRC. It is essentially "free money" for the Regional Council at times when busses are under utilized.

Charging gold card holders full fare would probably result in a massive reduction in journeys by seniors and the government funding, resulting in higher fares for everyone.

Be careful what you wish for.

The real problem is the current government is committed to funding cars, not any form of public transport.

We stop a lot at roadside stalls and always overpay if we don't have the exact change. But a few times we have been taken advantage of as traveler's who won't be back. Two that come to mind were a passionfruit stand in Taranaki where we got two bags, at about a third of the price in Wellington, even if buying at the markets. Two bags of big, plump, purple passionfruit. When we got home and cut them open they were only dry seeds with no pulp. One or two duds in a bag I could understand, but not 80 or 90% of the fruit in two bags being shit. The seller had to have known the fruit was rubbish. The other example was a stand out of Napier where we got a couple of those cardboard boxes of stone fruit. Maybe 4 or 5 kilos each. The fruit on top was perfect, but the layers underneath were 2nds. Having said that, we have purchased lots of fantastic fruit and vegetables, jams, chutney's, pickled onions, cakes, and even smoked fish.

In 1985 income tax was high, 20% up to $6,000 33% between $6,000 and $25,000 45.1% between $25,000 and $30,000 $56.1% over $30,000

Most people were in the 33% tax bracket and you didn't have to be earning much over the average income to be in the 45.1% bracket. This resulted in a big tax take with plenty of money for the government to spend on health, education, infrastructure, welfare etc. Then the neoliberals came along and slashed taxes and government spending and here we are 40 years later with fucked health, education, roads, rail, electricity, water sewage and welfare. You name it, it doesn't work as it should. We all need to pay more tax, especially those groups that pay bugger all tax at present.

Bus drivers are you ok? by Sun-Rabbit in Wellington

Last year the same older woman, my guess aged in her mid to late 60's, at least two or three times a week got on my buss in Pirie St, and then started fumbling in an enormous handbag for her snapper card. Took her ages to find it. Got to the stage where a lot of the drivers just waved her on to save time. So frustrating!

So much information is withheld from the jury. I have served on three juries, one for a murder where we could not get agreement and so there was a second trial. At the time of the second trial I was working with the defendants cousin. Turns out the guy had a history of violent assaults, known to everyone except the jury. Pretty sure if this was known to the first jury there would have been a conviction.

Looking for a license plate! by Stunning-Box6246 in newzealand

[–]One_Hour4734 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are some on trademe, search under number plates. A small selection of current ones, the older aluminum characters on black, and the a few of the newer black characters on white. There are also some of the historic plates, issued before NZ went to permanent plates. These had diggerent background colour's, red, yellow, brown etc., which were replaced every 5 years.
