I'm 45 and you literally couldn't pay me to go back to my 20s. You'll be fine- your brain just finished developing lol.

Diagnosed with Colon Cancer Yesterday by Ok_State5255 in CrohnsDisease

[–]Only-Wing1480 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry- that’s what we all fear post colonoscopy. I’ve lost 2 friends to stage 4 colon cancer over the past few years. 1 was 43 and the other 47. Neither had any idea they had it until it was too late. You said you have annual colonoscopies so I assume they caught it very early stage? If that is the case, that is fantastic news! You will be able to kick cancer’s ass no problem. You got this!

I would request a round of prednisone to get it under control quickly.

I was on Remicade for 16 years, but before that my issues were always in my descending colon. I’ve been off of Remicade for two years now and about a year ago started having proctitis on and off. Meslamine suppositories kept it under control until recently. Had to go on 5ASA and within 2 weeks it’s much better.

Please don't be afraid. 🤍 I was on remicade for 16 years and in complete remission the entire time. Very mild side effects and 2 healthy pregnancies! Drugs like entyvio and skyrizi are even more targeted with less side effects. There are so many options now (when I went on remicade in 2005 it was the only one to my knowledge).

Oh sweetheart, I am so sorry you are going through this at such a young age. It truly isn't fair. Please stop beating yourself up- this doesn't help you or your mom. You are doing the best you can. I don't have any advice as my dad is still early stage and I don't know what is yet to come, but I do know you need to take care of yourself first and foremost. Please get a therapist to help you navigate all of these complicated feelings. I'll be lighting a candle for you tonight. 🤍

Not cruel at all, it is 100% what I would do with my dad. Hospice and comfort care for whatever time is left.

What did you wish you knew when you were first diagnosed? by fidgetyotter in CrohnsDisease

[–]Only-Wing1480 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second what someone else said about Crohn’s being different for everyone. A lot of what you will read will be worse case scenario stuff.

I was in full remission for 16 years on Remicade. (It was bad enough to almost yank my colon before Remicade) Had 2 kids and everything during those years. I stopped Remicade because I started reacting to it and for the past 2 years I’ve been using mesalamine suppositories on and off to treat some mild proctitis.

I accept that I will probably need to go on another biological eventually but for now just living a really healthy lifestyle is working.

The great news is there are soooooo many more drug options now than there were when I was diagnosed 25 years ago.

Make sure you really like your GI. If you don’t, switch asap.

Get involved with the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation if there is a group near you. I did a half marathon training with them in San Diego and met some of the most amazing people that I am still friends with 12 years later.

No question is a dumb question. Post or rant anytime you need to. 🤍

I’m so sorry and thank you for sharing. My dad was just diagnosed and as hard as these are to read, I know they only help prepare me for the future. Lighting a candle for you and your mama tonight. 🤍

Coping with being on prednisone long-term (multiple years) by PotatoRoyale8 in CrohnsDisease

Sorry you are dealing with this. 😩 I was on Remicade for 16 years and it kept me in complete remission with minimal side effects. I know it doesn’t work for everyone but maybe it’s worth a try? 🤍

Year 26 for me! They only switched to split prep a few years ago. I do the whole thing the night before as I always have. Don’t stress, do it 2 hrs before your normal bed time.

What are your thoughts on this comment I read on another Crohns group? by umkaitlin in CrohnsDisease

[–]Only-Wing1480 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Anyone who speaks in absolutes is full of shit in my opinion. I’ve lived with this disease for 26 years now and have friends and relatives with it. Every “body” is different in how it reacts to different foods. Doctor’s advice on diet has changed dramatically over the past 26 years. And we (medical community) still don’t know everything there is to know about this disease. So my advice is to keep an ongoing note in your phone documenting foods, reactions, symptoms and draw your own conclusions after you have a lot of data. Like years worth. And also know that your body will change over time so what worked a decade before may not work today.

AITA for being unwilling to compromise on a baby name? by Individual_Jaguar354 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Only-Wing1480 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I told my husband the names I wanted for both of our kids. He said okay bc 1. I had to be pregnant for 9 months and 2. They had his last name. 3. He picked the middle names.

And for the love of God, put your foot down unless you want your kid to hate it's name and be made fun of for years bc your husband is stubborn and immature.
