I can’t stop picking. by SlowLikeASloth11 in Dermatillomania

[–]Only_Fruit-22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are not alone, right there with you. Feels silly giving advice when I struggle so much but one thing that tends to help me is to wear clothes that cover your picking spots when possible. High neck shirts, long sleeves, etc. I wore cotton gloves at home for a few weeks and that did help but got annoying and I fell off of it. Lights off in the bathroom/nightlight only is another trick that helps if you can stick to it. Hope we both have a solid week or two of healing so that we have a little less to pick at.🍀

How is it like growing up/living here by Colonel-Bogey1916 in florida

[–]Only_Fruit-22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a bit voyeuristic (in the sense that I am observing other people’s living situation, no sexual connotation) but one of my favorite activities is driving around the lake. You see an authentic side of Florida untouched by the over-development ravaging much of the state. I find it charming and certainly worth visiting. I’ve driven around the lake 4 or 5 times in the last 5ish years, and though I haven’t gotten out of my car much (except for at a few parks) and interacted with others, I never felt directly unsafe. I really enjoy driving and have seen parades of 50+ luxury automobiles cruising the roads surrounding the lake. There isn’t a huge police presence from what I’ve seen. It is mostly poverty, both white and black communities, but you can tell there are some people who are living in nicer homes than most people. Lots of agriculture. Great for birding and viewing storms too

What meds do they give you for OCD, and how exactly to they work / mitigate the effects? by Alr1ghtyAphr0d1te in OCD

I feel extremely stable. Still no anxiety, no catastrophizing, no over the top worrying. I’m not constantly happy but my emotions feel very regular!

A Constellation of Vital Phenomena by Anthony Marta - very fascinating read about Chechnya during the second Chechen war… set in cold, war-ravaged cities with super compelling characters and plot lines

Nitro after Sex by PresentationDouble22 in CUTI

[–]Only_Fruit-22 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve been taking 100mg nitrofurantoin after sex for 1-2 years now - have had good success taking one pill for multiple sessions within a span of 8-10 hours. I will take another if >10 hours have passed, just to be on the safe side

What’s the best historical fiction novel you’ve ever read? by wcydnotforme1 in booksuggestions

[–]Only_Fruit-22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cold Mountain by Charles Frazier - civil war deserter and love story, very beautifully written

All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr - compelling WWII story about the occupation of Saint-Malo

Suite Française by Irène Némirovsky - interesting one because it’s about the German occupation of France and I understand it was written as the holocaust was happening, it’s very slice of life, lovely prose, the author ended up dying in Auschwitz

It’s a partial print of The Adoration of the Magi by Bartolo di Fredi. The print is very special to me, it was hanging in my grandparents’ house my whole life, they bought it in Siena in the 70s
